Ned Gravel Posted October 19, 2018 Report Posted October 19, 2018 I really do not have anything to complain about but I expected to stay at Oxford Waterbury (KOXC) until tomorrow (Saturday), when they called me yesterday and told me that the contractor re-doing their taxiways and other maneuvering areas was going to paint the runway - closing it from Friday (today) noon until noon on the following Monday. Wha? So yesterday afternoon, I repositioned my Mooney to Bridgeport Airport (KBDR is a 15 min flight but 40 min drive from KOXC). I was working all day today, but I go finished early so I Uber'd my way back to Bridgeport, filed IFR and launched into 25 kt headwinds for Gaithersburg (KGAI). What do I see when I get here? More beavers at work. Again, working on the maneuvering areas. But I am very glad it is being done - just wish it wouldn't get in the way when I am flying. (OK complaining done...) Quote
INA201 Posted October 20, 2018 Report Posted October 20, 2018 I’ve run into a lot of construction myself around SC airports. Road and bridge construction here too. Quote
jackn Posted October 20, 2018 Report Posted October 20, 2018 Spend that money before year end. use it or lose it. Wish we could get our town to spend the money they have been allocated for airport improvements. Quote

Wish we could get our town to spend the money they have been allocated for airport improvements. I am familiar with that problem! Where I used to live, the county wouldn't spend hangar rent paid to them toward splitting the 10% local obligation with the FBO to get the FAA's 90% payment spent through local contractors. They were so anti-airport that they told the road crews to not mow the highway shoulders along the airport property, but to let us do it ourselves . . . Quote
Mooneymite Posted October 20, 2018 Report Posted October 20, 2018 If a young man wants job security in aviation, he should specialize in airport construction. Most airports get worked on from time to time, but some airports are constantly under construction. ATL immediately comes to mind. Quote
