I'm thinking of using them to prep for the Commercial written. well my CFII is the instructor so I wont bash it to much but Im not sure I would pay $400 for it. Its a good refresheer and they give you tips about the test like always choose the answer closest to xyz. I took the PPL and IR from them because I got in free 1 Quote
N9201A Posted March 4, 2017 Report Posted March 4, 2017 Congrats Jolie and keep at it! IFR is a great skill to have in the toolkit. And once you have it, stay current!! 2 Quote

That 6 months comes up quicker than you think! And it's much easier, not to mention more fun and cheaper, to go shoot come approaches with a friend, rather than hunt down a CFII for an IPC. 1 Quote

Most of today was partial panel and included two approaches, recovery from unusual attitudes, stalls, slow flight, go around. I am doing pretty well. I give myself a B-, my instructor says B+. We are using the program/app Cloud Ahoy to track my flights, maneuvers etc. 1 Quote

So much easier to monitor currency with Garmin pilot 2 Quote
gsxrpilot Posted March 5, 2017 Report Posted March 5, 2017 ForeFlight, PilotPartner, etc. all do the same. It's a great feature. But I don't check my log book as often as I'm in my work calendar. I like having the work calendar alert me of distant but approaching dates that aren't hour based. These include Medical, Annual, IPC, FlightReview. They all take time to satisfy and therefore need some advanced planning. I set the alarms at 3 months out for IPC, FR, and Annual. I give myself a note 2 months out on the Medical. 1 Quote
mooneygirl Posted March 6, 2017 Author Report Posted March 6, 2017 Well today was just under an hour in actual. In a way it was nice not to have that freaking hood on. We departed in the rain at Fullerton, flew to Corona to fly the hold a few times, then the approach and went missed. Then picked up an approach to Chino. It was pretty bumpy, windy and snotty, but the Mooney is such a stable airplane. Flew home from LA VFR, so fun to look out of the windows. It was 22 degrees at 8500 with a 35 kt headwind. One of the photos is the traffic on the 101 below me. Even though I was only going 119 kts sure beat the freeway. I did better with intercepting today. My approaches are getting more stabilized and not sword fighting so much. Things are starting to flow. Did 8 hours of instruction in the air and 2 plus hours of ground. Next weekend I will attend the IFR practical test prep class at Camarillo, CA. Getting closer! 1 Quote

FloridaMan Posted March 6, 2017 Report Posted March 6, 2017 Is your PC system still functional? I'd be concerned over doing partial panel with it on since in the event of a vacuum failure you'd lose your wing leveler. Also, having lost a couple pumps, the horizon sortof just rolls off and back. thinwing Posted March 6, 2017 Report Posted March 6, 2017 Having at least a wing leveler is a huge help in IMC... 1 Quote

And having so many hours in my Mooney helps a lot too. Very stable platform. I have a basic panel but am adding a 430W which will be useful as well. Maybe see you two at Oceano Airport Celebration on May 12-13th!! Lots of fun. Quote
