manoflamancha Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 (edited) I'm looking for a good local Mooney experienced instructor to get me checked out in the new 231 that I'm planning to buy soon here in San Diego. Any recommendations are welcome. Scott Edited September 7, 2016 by manoflamancha Typo

donkaye, MCFI Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 Chuck McGill. Expensive, but good. Chuck McGill (Master CFI) San Diego. CA 858-451-2742, Master CFI, MAPA PPP Instructor 1
DonMuncy Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 If you can afford to bring Don Kay down to do it, you couldn't do any better.
manoflamancha Posted September 7, 2016 Author Report Posted September 7, 2016 Thanks both good options. Was considering a Bravo but deal is good on the 231 even if I have to put another engine in her still less.
kortopates Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 I am at Gillespie and also a past MAPA PPP instructor. I am not Chuck, but I was trained by him and follow his methodology. I won't be available till the end of the month though since I am currently working for Mooney Intl in China.

kortopates Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 Just now, donkaye said: Sorry, Paul, I should have mentioned you, too. Thanks Don, no worries at all.
manoflamancha Posted September 7, 2016 Author Report Posted September 7, 2016 Sounds like a game plan- I will coordinate schedule with best option. Right now priority is get prebuy done to make final go/no go decision. Plane is beautiful and flies great and the seller is honest and willing to work with my work/travel schedule as well.

TSSTANLEY Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 I would contact Paul Kortopates. He is hangated at KSEE. I had transition training in a 231k and found his instruction excellent. Let me know if you would like his phone#. 1
