RobertGary1 Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 I have the original pinned aileron linkage. I've had noticeable slop on both ailerons at the final linkage. However, its not much more than I've seen in new Cessnas straight from Kansas. Mooney wants $450 each for the new style linkages with the replaceable hiem ends. Is there anything from Mooney to provide guidance on when its too much slop? -Robert Quote
Guest Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 I've never come across a published limit, so you can take it that none is allowed, or that it doesn't matter. Some play would be normal and acceptable in my opinion. Clarence Quote
carusoam Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 You just can't compare to a Cessna. Because their slop is based on cable tension. Mooney slop is based on wear of the bits and pieces. Anything that induces or contributes to flutter would be bad. Having slop in the aerlerons would show up like a dead spot in the steering. Kind of annoying while trying to fly with precision on final. PP ideas only... Best regards, -a- Quote
Andy95W Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 When your IA says they're done, or when you wiggle them and say, "Jeez, those are really getting sloppy." Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Both aelerons produce life and in flight they both pull on the linkage rods and take all the slop out of the system. i guarantee that you have never felt any slop in your ailerons while flying and never will. There is never any benefit in replacing any rod ends in the aeleron system except for the ones between the yoke and the center bell crank, they can cause some backlash in the system, but I bet that is not what you are seeing. Ratherbflying Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Robert, I ran in to this at my last annual and my mechanic said we needed to replace the rod ends. In my case, it turned out that the play wasn't coming from the rod end, but from the bell crank bolt. We added some washers to remove that slop and now it's nice and tight. If you can't see the play in the rod end, reach up through the closest inspection panel and see if it the bell crank is loose. Quote
