I found some threads for the smaller tanks but couldn't find anything for the larger ones. Does anyone have the measurement on a paint stick or aftermarket gauge?

Thanks,

Most people build their own, marking it while filling.  The accuracy is worth the effort.

otherwise, you get something that may be accurate for somebody, but still go through the same effort to test the accuracy yourself...

the fun part comes from the stick you choose.  Homer'sPaint stirrer or parts of a bee hive have been suggested...

Check into the float and dial devices to see if they are available on the used market.  Nice easy upgrade if available...

The heavy duty paint stir sticks.  Carry a sharpie.  Stick the tank.  Draw a line.  Fill the tank.  Subtract from the amount entered.  There was a guy who burned up his Cessna doing the drain a tank fill it a gallon at a time.

You can purchase online some Plexiglass type tubing (say in 3 foot lengths).  Wall thickness can be about 1/8".  Cut it to length, long enough go it can not drop into the tank.  Fill tank every 5 gallons, let settle, and make a mark with a file.  You can mark it with numbers later (perhaps even a steel numbering set to make a number impression in the plexiglass).

That way you have a set of calibrated for your tanks.

Mine is a storebought "universal" dip stick, hollow. The lines are scribed and numbered every two gallons using a Dremel engraving tool. Stamping into a 1/4" round stick won't be easy, it will try to roll away from the stamp.

I made mine with a scrap piece of 1x1 and a piece of 1/4 in tygon (clear) tubing.   Wired the tube to the stick.

Marked stick w/sharpie.  Hold thumb over end of tubing, insert in tank.  remove/replace thumb allowing fuel in tube.

Remove from tank and read level.  Found that using stick by itself was hard to read 2nd tank since fuel did not yet dry.

Will take pic tomorrow when I go to airport.

Bill

Note, I used one dowel and the 1/2x 1/2 stick. I like the stick better, easier to read.

My fuel cap must be further up hill, Hank.

three gallons in the tank wouldn't arrive at the area under the fuel cap nevermind be measurable.

That makes using the stick procedure a little more difficult for 100+ gallon capacities....

Just for the record, I have an M20R.

I made my own base on the chart in this tread.

When using it compared to my fuel gauges and fuel flow, its really close.I have a M20G with 52 gallon tanks.
