Marauder Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 They even know if you've had fat girls in your airplane! The horrors of big brother! 1 Quote
DaV8or Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 The horrors of big brother! Big Brother is an eventuality. Si Fi writers are seldom wrong. Oh they get the little details and the dates wrong all the time, but the overall concepts more often than not become reality. First there were computers and it was simply about selling you a product to use. Then there was the internet and it was about a way to sell you a product to use. (Mostly porn in the early days!) Then the internet became entertainment and it became all about advertising. Now it is all about data collecting every single thing there is to know about an individual. That is the hot money maker now. One of the consumers of that information is the US government. Yep, ADS-B is another way to collect data on us, as is cell phones, traffic cams, rewards cards, credit cards, On Star type systems in your car, utility meters, DVRs and ultimately the entire internet. Big Brother is building steam. All we need now is a never ending war against a horrific foe in a far off land that threatens our very survival. I wonder where we could find that? Anyhow, I'm just sliding along on this thread drift... never mind me. 1 Quote

Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk Believe it or not, but Airbus actually has a Satellite system in place to track airliners and they named it... you guessed it. Skynet. Actually Skynet 5. I'm not sure what number they have to get to before it's self aware. 1 Quote
DaV8or Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Does anyone remember "1984" Yeah, it was great! I bought my first brand new car that year. My girlfriend (now wife) and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary and we got a new cat together. It was a great year for me... oh you mean the book and the equally depressing movie. I'm not sure we are allowed to forget it these days. 1 Quote
HRM Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 Does anyone remember "1984" Of course, that was the year I had no life (I graduated a year later). That was also the year a CS buddy called me to tell me they had a Mac at the Creative Computing store in Las Cruces, NM. We all ran down to look at it. Stared in awe. "How many programs can it run?" -- "Two: MacPaint and MacWrite." "How do you program it?" -- "You don't." Quote
carusoam Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 Ads for the Lisa come to mind. Guy runs down the aisle of a crowded theater and lofts a maul at the screen? That 1984? Best regards, -a- Quote
jonhop Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 Does anyone remember "1984" My J does... I was a sophomore in HS and still clueless about what lay before me!!! Quote
cliffy Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 I forgot, I'm a dinosaur. Sorry. Maybe some of you are too young to remember George Orwell Quote
Shadrach Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Does anyone remember "1984" Wohoo 4th grade! What a party! I read the book "1984" in 1986. It was depressing, and lost some of its impact because we knew that 1986 was nothing like the world discribed in the book. Now that I'm older, I don't judge Orwell to harshly for being a few decades off. Edited January 13, 2016 by Shadrach 2 Quote
1964-M20E Posted January 14, 2016 Report Posted January 14, 2016 I graduated HS in 1983 my lit teacher dropped 1984 from the reading list since we were so close. However, I did enjoy Animal Farm very insightful. Quote
