m276527 Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Hi Everyone, So we have just sold our current Mooney, a wonderful M20F with a Johnson bar and manual flaps. We are upgrading to a K model with power everything. The plane has an LB engine with a Merylyn Wastegate and an intercooler I have about 200 hours in the F model and was quite comfortable with the quirks and general operation. The K model is a big performance step up for us and I'm looking for an experienced CFI in the midwest (STL area) that could help with the transition to a new (to us) bird. I've been reading everything I can on and offline and it's somewhat overwhelming. It seems as though you all have been flying 231's and 252's forever and while it's probably second nature for you now the change seems rather daunting to me. Especially when considering the long list of best practices posted for the 231 and then operating more like a 252. Any advice for finding a knowledgeable (and perhaps patient) CFI that can help me become proficient in the new plane would be great. Many Thanks! -Richard Quote
Joe Zuffoletto Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Bruce Jaeger is a great Mooney instructor based out of Wilmar, MN. He trained me in my K and TN models. He's also an expert in engine management. 1 Quote

Parker_Woodruff Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 I can travel pretty cheap and have some business up somewhat close to there later this week. Owned an M20K for about two years. Quote
IndyTim Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Richard - Congratulations on the new bird. There are several of us in the area with Ks, Ovations, and Acclaims. We've started a very informal breakfast run every couple months or so - let me know if interested and I'll add you to the list. Quote
DonMuncy Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 IndyTim, I hangar at RBD and fly a K model. I would like to know who is in your group and be kept aware of your breakfast runs. Thanks. Don Quote

Hi Parker, Thanks. We are planning on closing the sale and taking possession of the plane this upcoming Friday and will be flying her back to St. Louis (KSUS) as soon as we get some good weather on a weekend. The plane is based in theDFW area now, so I might be interested in talking with you a bit about flying her back with me on a weekend. PM me when you have a moment tomorrow and I can fill you in. IndyTim Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 I'm regularly flying back and forth between MO and the DFW area - I might be able to get you down to Dallas, and get Parker back home when the training is done. Quote

Don I'll add you to the list Don. We met last at Bolivar (M17) where they have a nice remodeled cafe and a great Saturday breakfast. I think it's about time to schedule another one... Quote
DonMuncy Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Tim, I misunderstood about "the area". Mo is a bit far for breakfast for me. Thanks for the consideration, but no need to waste notifications to me for up there. Don Quote
IndyTim Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 I think we need to go south for our next run. How does Arkansas sound - is that more doable? We have at a Bonanza driver who is down that way. I don't have any cool places immediately in mind - open to suggestions. Somewhere around Hot Springs would be about right. DonMuncy Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Hot Springs may be doable, but last time I was there, the nearest eating place was a pretty good walk form the airport. My wife is not up to half mile or more walks nowadays. Quote
