Apparently the media is crying foul over the recent Ferguson MO TFR.   http://bigstory.ap.org/article/674886091e344ffa95e92eb482e02be1/ap-exclusive-ferguson-no-fly-zone-aimed-media

The actual TFR was SFC to 3000 ft, and a 3nm radius and allowed for traffic to the St Louis airport.    Presumably 3000 is the bottom of the Bravo.

I just wish the media would get this upset over presidential and VIP TFRs.

I saw this report as well.  Yes they should be upset this is a misuse of TFRs like most of them out there.  Especially over Disney in Orlando now going on 13 years so much for temporary.

"They finally admitted it really was to keep the media out," said one FAA manager about the St. Louis County Police in a series of recorded telephone conversations obtained by The Associated Press.

So much for the open and transparent democracy our founding fathers were so excited about.

Any politician who wants to have a picnic in his backyard sets up a TFR for the day...total bullshit....

or is it bullshit that AOPA does nothing about it......

Well maybe the media giants will sue the FAA over 1st amendment infringement.   While the media is routinely prohibited to enter a crime scene to prevent the damage of evidence etc. there is no such case here.  The FEDs simply did not want the media getting aerial footage of the events happening in Ferguson.

So, the news came out that this TFR had nothing to do with safety. It was just to restrict the media.

So it seems that the cops can impose a TFR any time they feel like it.

We can't let this happen again!

The claim that it was about safety is total BS. They claim it was because of muzzle flashes and lasers aimed at helicopters. Under that logic every time someone is lased in an aircraft then they would have to establish a TFR until it stopped or the perp is caught. And the chances of someone striking a moving aircraft with small arms fire is pretty slim. It's happened but it's slim and I think most pilots share an instinct of self preservation and would take steps to avoid getting hit (i.e. Not honoring in one spot).
