DaveL Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 I finally received a new stub spar from Mooney and am beginning the disassembly of my C model. The maintenance book references a tool to assist in removing the retract springs. Does anyone have a dimensioned drawing of said tool? Is the tool necessary? Thanks! Dave
Guest Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Dave, I have the tool for removing the main gear spring. I thought that I read something here about someone inserting a quarter between each coil to keep it stretched while removing the bolt at the gear leg. Clarence
N201MKTurbo Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 I have the tool also. It isn't much help putting on the spring but it is helpful for removing it. The tool isn't much, you would be just as well off running a few loops of lock wire around the end of the spring and a pry bar. Take the nut off the question mark looking piece, use the pry bar or special tool to pull on the spring a bit and slide the bolt out of the bracket. You are done. To put it back on I would use the quarter trick. 3
DaveL Posted October 7, 2014 Author Report Posted October 7, 2014 Thanks everyone! I searched the forum(s) but obviously used the wrong terms. I'll proceed and keep in mind the spacer trick - awesome! Dave
