rotorman Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Bought a new N7. It's running the newest software, 4.4.2. However, it will not download data consistently on Avare. I can put my two year old SGH4G phone using wifi right next to the N7. The SGH4G downloads the charts but the N7 stalls at about 5%. This is an FYI if you are thinking of purchasing a new N7. My is going back to Best Buy today for a refund. Quote
wishboneash Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 No such problem with the same set up. I have the 2013 N7 running Android 4.4.2 as well. Quote
BigTex Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 Same here... I just reinstalled it and download a bunch of charts on my N7 running 4.4.2 and installed and downloaded fine. Maybe you have a configuration or network issue? Quote
jwilkins Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 My N7 downloads Avare fine. We carry it as a backup, so don't have a lot of experience using it in transit, but it downloads without a hitch and has always worked when we've tested it. Quote
rotorman Posted April 29, 2014 Author Report Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks for the feedback. I think my N7 aquired some kind bug. When I first got it, it loaded normally. Later, after much practice with the app whilst trying to learn it, I got a black screen. When I shut the app down and restarted all the downloads were gone. It never worked correctly after that. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times. After that, once in a while I would get a chart download slowly, but mostly it would just stall. I found other apps where it would stall as well. I took it back today for a refund Maybe I'll go back and give it another try with a new one. Or maybe I'll get a Samsung Tab 8. That extra inch gives a whole lot more screen. Quote
BobAustin Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 I downloaded Avare to my 2013 Nexus 7 and after downloading charts it locked up bigtime. Finally had to uninstall it and I am happy with the IFLY APP for Android. Has never had a problem and the VFR charts are very easy to read with good resolution. Cheap and one that Android users can try for 30 days etc... Quote
Mcstealth Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 I bought a used, 2012 N7 because of the positive comments I've read here on the forum. It is the 32mb version, running 4.2.2. I'm ready for my fist app. Which should it be? Df Quote
BigTex Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Garmin Pilot Hands down. I bought a used, 2012 N7 because of the positive comments I've read here on the forum. It is the 32mb version, running 4.2.2. I'm ready for my fist app. Which should it be? Df Garmin Pilot hands down. Quote
Marauder Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Anyone use the FlightPlan.com app yet? I have been playing with it since it became available. I had some crash issues with it that seems to have gotten better. The download and update function is still a little strange behaving. Unlike Garmin Pilot that remembers what charts and maps I want, the FLTPLN app seems to require you to select everything you want again to update -- but not consistently. I like the fact that it is free though! Quote
wishboneash Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Anyone use the FlightPlan.com app yet? I have been using fltplan for a few months now. I had problems initially with updates and it crashing. UI is not the best. I also have Garmin Pilot (GP) and Avare. Fltplan IFR plates are geo-referenced and free. Works fine for me now. I may keep the GP basic subscription (still lagging iOS; no weather charts yet etc...). But it is the only game in town if you have a GDL-39 and want it to display ADS-B wx and traffic on your portable device. Quote
