Oscar Avalle Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 On March 2 I flew with a friend to the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. On our return flight we saw that the Pacaya Volcano close to Guatemala City had erupted. It was a spectacular and scary scenery. Very turbulent, but extremely beautiful. 3 Quote
MooneyBob Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 That's beautiful. We wanted to see the touch down though. Where is it? How many cameras do use have mounted on / in the plane at the time? Did you pay royalty on the song? :-) Last time I tried to use the song YouTube didn't let me use it. Quote
Marauder Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Oscar doesn't fly an airplane any more. He flies a MFS (mobile filmography studio). Nice video Oscar! Sent using Tapatalk 1 Quote
fantom Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Now that would be quite a unique flying experience, with some interesting updrafts if you got too close. Quote
carusoam Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Go Satch Mo! Nice choice of music to go with the video! -a- Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Now that would be quite a unique flying experience, with some interesting updrafts if you got too close. It was a unique flying experience. Looking at the video it does not look as impressive as it was in real life. We could even see lava coming out to the crater. Ref. updrafts and downdrafts it was really turbulent, I had throttled down to 110 mph to avoid some bumps, but even so I got updrafts to up to 1000 feet/min and similar downdrafts. In addition we got a good amount of ash on the plane. After landing I cleaned the airfilter and of course washed the plane. You should have seen the slush that came out of it. Quote

My wife also said that she wanted to see the touch down too... but it was not so great. It was very gusty and windy (24kts gust to 30) so I did not want to be to embarased. I will redo the video an show the landing.... The identifier is MGGT (La Aurora, Guatemala City). The volcano is called Pacaya. I had four cameras mounted on the plane and they were running all the time. But footage was not that great. I did not pay for the song, but I had to acknowledge third party content. It basically means that you can not play the video on portable devices. Quote
MARZ Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Awesome video! But I'd sure do an oil sample, change the oil and filter and pull a compression check before going up again. Quote
triple8s Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 That is surreal, new real estate. All the crap about global warming is it really man made. Man worries so much about it and just ONE asteroid, major volcanic event and our world could be changed forever. We are so insignificant in the grand scheme. I always come back from flying feeling so humbled by just how insignificant I am in this world. More people should fly maybe people would be nicer to each other, we're just passin through. 2 Quote
