Just over a month ago, I ask for advice regarding my STEC 40 single axis auto pilot with GPSS ( talks to a gns430w).  49Y is now at avionics shop for upgrade to STEC 50 (altitude hold).  decided to get GDL88 installed also.  Hoping to have her back around Xmas.

Thanks to all those who offered your advice!  This classic ole bird should be yet again improved and ready for the future!post-7780-0-42057500-1384388751_thumb.jp

Sounds like a wise decision!  What are you going to use for a display with the GDL 88?

I would also encourage you to add an engine monitor instead of that older scanner.  The JPI EDM-700's on the used market are a real bargain now if budget is a constraint.  The rest of the panel looks great for an early E!  You or a previous owner did a good job bringing some order to the pilot side.

This picture is a little dated, as I did replace the old scanner with an edm700, including ff,oiltemp, oil pressure . It's connected to the 430 for fuel planning.

Planning to connect gdl88 to the 430...

I am thinking of adding the GDL88 to my 430 next year.   PLEASE take some pictures of weather and traffic on the 430.  I saw some sim examples at OSH and even tho the traffic contacts were limited, they looked OK to me.

Rahawk -- you may want to check the features you will get using it with a 430. They are not a full feature set that you would get with a GTN series -- Just in case the avionics shop tells you otherwise.

Check out the compatible devices tab on this Garmin site: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the-air/avionics-safety/weather-solutions/gdl-88-series/prod63471.html

Rahawk, did you do the leather yokes yourself. I just read the DIYS  post and looks fairly simple. They also look good !
