Martin H Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Hello Anyone on the South Side of Atlanta. My Fiance' (aka the Banker) would like to check out a Mooney while I am deployed to see if this is the route we want to go. She has already approved of a V-Tail, and likes the look, ride and fit of the Bonanza. I am leaning to a Rocket but her worry is will we like it for long trips. She is NOT a stick. She's got curves. So she has "heard" that Mooneys are TIGHT. She is also working on her PP Written and will then start taking lessons. So, IF anyone is in the area, can show her - or better, take her up.... that would be much appreciated. Thanks, Martin Quote
triple8s Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I have heard this many times, " Wow its pretty comfortable once I finally got in it and streched my legs out." So, seems to me the thing is to learn a comfortable way to get in and out. I get my feet in first and hold on with my right hand on the tube in front working my way over to the left seat feet first. If I am going to the right seat I get my feet in and go from there. I usually back out to make my exit. Ive also heard people say it sets different. You set in a reclined position. Last time I rode in a C-172 I felt like I was setting on top of a bar stool. Mooneys may have been born in Texas but if ya wanna wear a Stetson while flying get a B or C not a Mooney. Quote
Hank Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I fly in high-crowned hats in my Mooney all the time! A ventilated wide brim in summer, a wool Indiana Jones hat in winter. I stand 5'-11" in my socks, and haven't hit either hat on the ceiling . . . Quote
Ksaunders Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Martin, I am based out of KGVL in Gainesville, Ga. I have a beautiful 1982 M20J that is totally upgraded inside and out + very well equipped with avionics, GPS (530W) + 696 + KFC 200 auto pilot....etc. I can sell your (Banker) on a Mooney and would be proud to give her an orientation to the M20J + flight. Have her contact me at the following and we'll get her introduced to the very best in general aviation. My bird is N23MD. I travel quite often with my job but will do my best to accommodate her request. ksaunder@prattindustries.com Quote
AlanA Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Mooneys can sometimes be "tight" for older, bigger, or less flexible people as they get in and out. Once you are in though, they are very comfortable and plenty spacious. Quote

Oldguy Posted September 29, 2013 Report Posted September 29, 2013 I came from a C-172 to my '82 M20J, and the comfort in the Mooney is great. When I unwind out of my plane, I often get surprised looks from ground crews as I am a bit over 6'5" and about 210 lbs. Getting in and out is relatively simple using some of the techniques described in earlier posts. The things my wife loves about the plane is the speed, comfort and fuel burn. She was actually the one who pushed me to move up the the Mooney. Given the chance to exprience everything that a Mooney has to offer over the time you will potentially own it, your fiance should come to love your Mooney as much as we love ours. Quote
thinwing Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 I use the butt on the door jam brace technique both getting in and getting out....simply arise to a standing position and brace your butt on door jam...looks much cooler than other methods..k Quote
