  1. I had an unexpected pitch up command by my GFC500 autopilot as I was about to cross the intermediate fix to an RNAV approach. Was it an autopilot or a pilot error? Watch the flight and slow motion replay for the answer. Corrected unexpected pitch up and completed approach landing in strong gusty winds.
  2. I was on an "escape" mission from a major front chainsawing across North and Northeast FL to get back to home base. In the process ended up flying through a band of extreme rain (but thankfully not a thunderstorm) and then had an intermittent stuck mike for the rest of the flight while dodging weather, etc. A lot of you might wonder why I did not use a handheld. I actually always carry one in my flight bag. It's an older version of an iCom and I have adapters to connect with my BOSE LEMO plug as well as an antenna connector to plug into a jack below the panel that connects to COM 2 antenna. I started to assemble the spaghetti but found myself interrupted by further weaving and dodging as well as responding to ATC. A bit too long to put together for a relatively short flight (less than 45 min). I just kept on flying.... A bit of a stressful flight When you watch the video you will be just as annoyed as I was by the constant intermittent stuck mike!!! Chris
  3. It was a perfect day to do practice approaches in actual IMC since ceilings were between 800 ft and 1500 ft around the area. Filed for a "round robin" flight noting in the remarks that I wanted to do practice approaches into KBQK and KJAX. Well..... you can't always get what you want! The Jax approach controller was superb handling all the traffic. Non-stop coms! Enjoy! Chris
  4. This is my first night flight after having installed a GTN750 Xi to replace 530W, GFC500 to replace KFC150 and GI275 EIS to replace Insight G4 and all other engine gauges. Also changed glare shield lights to green LED's. I had done a couple of previous flights in daylight to work out some bugs and it was ready for a night flight! It was a perfect night to fly: smooth air and stunning sunset that I "chased" flying West. Also had a really nice night landing with the new LED runway lights at 15FL. Enjoy!!
  5. Who would have guessed a 2ft x 4ft piece of aluminum could cost 50 grand...
  6. Well, the time has come to sell my most recent project. This 231 has everything anyone could ever desire in a 231. I run a FAA repair station and we are a Mooney service center. All work was completed by us. I will most certainly forget something but here it goes. Airframe: 3400TTSN NDH Brand new grey leather interior, all new solar grey UV glass, 2008 paint (8/10), fresh annual (all brakes, disks, shock disks, tires, tubes, gear stripped and repainted, etc.) factory O2, new masks, speed brakes, etc... Engine: TSIO-360-LB, about 25 hours TSMOH New turbo, new exhaust system, O/H'ed fuel system, new GAMI's, new Meryln waste gate, new intercooler, new mags, new harness, new baffles seals, new mounts, new hoses, sitting on a freshly powder coated mount. If it's not listed here, it's probably new.... Avionics: Aspen 1000 Pro PFD w/ EA100 autopilot adapter and APS4A altitude preselect coupled to the KFC200, driven by a Garmin GTN750 and a GTN650, remote Garmin GTX33ES transponder and remote Garmin GMA35 audio panel, both controlled on the touchscreens. Weather and traffic from the Garmin GDL88, as well as a freshly overhauled Weatherscout Radar just for kicks. Bluetooth comes from a Garmin Flightstream 210 to run all your portable devices. JPI EDM700 engine monitor with fuel flow is hooked to both GTN's giving fuel range rings. This plane flies as good as it sounds and is dripping with technology. There is a listing on TAP here with photos: http://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20K+231+MODIFIED&listing_id=2168971&s-type=aircraft Also there is a thread on here detailing some of the project as it progressed: Anyone interested can contact me directly on here, or jclemens@daytonaaircraft.com, or call 386-255-2049 M-F 9-5 and ask for Jake. You can also contact my broker listed in the TAP listing.
  7. I have a question for the group.... Yesterday I was flying an ILS approach. The frequency Id was ok, the LOC came in fine, but the Glideslope was intermittent. It came up and then disappeared from the ASPEN display as if the signal was intermittend. I was wondering if this is something that already happened to some of you guys, if this is an antenna problem, and what could I do about it... Thanks for any input on this...
  8. Yesterday was a perfect day for flying! So I went out there and flew down to the beach. Some nice shots of my Panel in action and some volcanos (including one smoking...) Enjoy.... Oscar
