  4. Probably should have taken more before photos, but halfway through the tail root fairing, after the tail root horizontal fairing and cowl mod were installed. Up next, the hinge covers, aileron and flap gap seals.
  5. In a time of crazy uncertainty, I want to share some positive news with you about the growth of LASAR. Over the past year, we have been asking ourselves the question, ‘how can we serve our loyal customers better’? The main thing that kept coming back to us is providing our excellent service in a location that is convenient for more airplane owners. And after considering many centralized locations on the West Coast, we believe we found the perfect place... We are excited to announce that starting tomorrow, we are opening up our new service center in Rancho Murieta (KRIU) in the Sacramento Valley. We have hired an experienced team that will be able to greatly expand our service to other makes and models. These are exciting times for us as a company. Please call (707) 263-0412 to schedule your next annual, and join us in spreading the word to your fellow pilots (Mooney or otherwise) in the area. *There is NOT a landing fee for LASAR customers.
  6. Hi Group, GREAT NEWS! Phil & Linda Corman from The Mooney Flyer Magazine have graciously offered to host a wine tasting party on Friday June 12, 2020 during the Summer Conference & Retreat. Featured Speakers are: Don Maxwell of Don Maxwell Aviation, Jolie Lucas & Jan Maxwell presenting their Right Seat Ready Class, LASAR will be presenting information about speed mods and Airspeed Insurance will be on hand to discuss the best way to protect your investment in your Mooney. More speakers are lining up as well. We will have fuel discounts, hotel & spa discounts, raffle giveaways and so much more. Register Today HERE! Hope to see you all there. Michael Rodgers
  7. Nose gear truss repair and SB 202. My nose gear truss had dents in it when I bought my '74 C twenty years ago. They were close to limits, but within limits. Recently I rechecked the dents in the truss and much to my surprise, one side was dented well beyond limits. I have no idea when, or where it happened; my last annual was a year ago. I ordered a replacement re-built truss from LASAR and got three shock biscuits from Aircraft spruce. Working under the direction of an IA, I got the rebuilt truss installed with the new biscuits. Definitely not a fun job unless you like old, dirty grease and working in impossible spaces. The replacement involved not just a logbook entry, but a 337 as well because the replacement truss was not just rebuilt, but modified (STC) with the "over-steer" protection tabs. Optimistically, I taxied out for a check flight, but that's when the project went south. My Mooney which has always taxied and tracked straight and true was like a wandering lover...all over the place. Having read about this phenomenon on Mooneyspace, I knew to look up SB M20-202 (https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hubfs/4147179/technical_documents/service_bulletins/sbm20-202.pdf) and Don Maxwell's piece on this issue: http://donmaxwell.com/the-eight-second-ride-sb-m20-202/ I called Dan at LASAR parts and told him about my troubles with the LASAR modified truss and after some back and forth, he agreed to send me the spacer detailed in SB 202 (M20-202-3). Dan admitted that all the rebuilt trusses were rebuilt on the same jig regardless of the year of the plane it was destined for. I presume that their jig is based on an earlier model than my '74 which has never needed the spacer. After jacking up and leveling the plane, the trouble was obvious, the plumb line was well aft of the nose geat axle. The castering geometry was way off. We re-compressed the biscuits and installed the spacer. The change was amazing considering the spacer is only 0.12" thick. The axle was now well aft of the plumb line. The subsequent check flight was fine with no evidence of nose wheel wandering. As a side note, I did not have, or use the Mooney tool to compress the biscuits. I used a combination of normal aircraft weight on the nose wheel and a turnbuckle where the shock strut mounted. The nose biscuits we removed were dated 3/83 and were within limits, but I replaced them because I didn't want to have to redo this job when they did, in fact fail to check out. 36 years on a set of biscuits is pretty impressive. The attached picture shows the difference between three 36 year old biscuits and new ones.
  8. Just a quick note to say thanks to the entire team at LASAR. The evacuations in Lakeport have been lifted and LASAR is back and open for business. I have my 67 M20F up there with them having some modifications being completed and I want to commend Brett Stokes and Dan and the rest of the LASAR team for taking such good care of my plane during the fires. They moved her into their hangar to protect her from smoke and ash issues and have followed up with me almost daily about the unexpected closing and evacuation of the airport as well as the eta in getting her back to Santa Monica. I cannot thank them enough. They also have extended their 10% off on all labor charges to the end of August so if anyone has any need of their incredible services I highly recommend you giving them a call. They have provided 40 + years of Mooney service and from my experience they are pilot friendly and professional in every way at every level. Thanks guys. I really appreciate all your work.
  9. Here’s the deal...Lampson field is temporarily closing down for runway improvements in early August, and we dont want to sit on our hands for 2 weeks. Soooooo, how about a win/win scinario? You bring your plane in for service before August 1, and we will give you 10% off labor. We stay busy through the closure. You save money! Give us a call to schedule your service. (707) 263-0412

  12. We love Mooney stories almost as much as we love our Mooneys, so we are trying something new on LASAR.com. We have created a platform for pilots (and copilots) around the world to share their stories with the entire Mooney community. Whether you have a favorite flight experience or just want to share the history, mods, or photos of your airplane, we would love to hear from you. We will be featuring different stories each month within the themes of "Favorite flight", "All about my Mooney", "My LASAR experience", or anything else "Mooney" that you would like to share. Simply type up your story in our online form, upload a photo or two, and we'll take care of the rest. Once your story is submitted we will put together a featured post on our site and also share it on our social media. To learn more, read stories, or share your own story, visit us at www.LASAR.com/mooniacs.

  15. So the time is approaching to completely refit our M20J's exterior and do a full repaint. As we have posted on here, the first trip we took with it resulted in hail damage on the elevators and ailerons. Plus the paint is a few years old and needs refreshing. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to put a bunch of LASAR drag mods on the machine, stick in a new windshield, and lay on a fresh coat of paint. I am soliciting ideas and experiences that have dealt with the following LASAR mods: horizontal tail fairing, dorsal fin with seal, wheel well liners, cabin door pin kit, wing root fairing, and aileron gap seals. Also looking for advice on changing out the old windshield for a new one, ours has light crazing.
