Glad I got mine here, thanks to the group buy. Anyone else installed theirs?

This may sound controversial, but any good instructor who understands real "stick and rudder" flying, reads and follows through with the applicable Mooney POH can train you. It didn't take long for me to go from an Archer to the 201, takes not more than 10 hrs or so, but for insurance purposes, you will probably need more to be signed off. The 201 is easier to land in crosswinds and lands predictably if you get the airspeeds right. Just watch out for the usual turns in the pattern and learn to slow down efficiently. This is the only part that is different from a draggier plane.

I have been using fltplan for a few months now. I had problems initially with updates and it crashing. UI is not the best. I also have Garmin Pilot (GP) and Avare. Fltplan IFR plates are geo-referenced and free. Works fine for me now. I may keep the GP basic subscription (still lagging iOS; no weather charts yet etc...). But it is the only game in town if you have a GDL-39 and want it to display ADS-B wx and traffic on your portable device.

Assuming Top Gun (Mark) is not familiar with it, perhaps he could be convinced to take a look at it. Lincoln is a short hop from Stockton.

Mine was installed behind the panel on the right side. It has an external antenna on the glare shield. The only time I need to access it is the rare occasion I have to pair a bluetooth device. I can reach from under and press the button to do that.

No such problem with the same set up. I have the 2013 N7 running Android 4.4.2 as well.

I was trying to rack my brain to decode what WBA was! OK, now I got it. Thanks.

My panel is very dense on the pilot's side. I like the current location as it is in my peripheral vision. Once I clean up the wiring, it will look much more professional! During calibration, for setting the close to stall speed, one has to press the button twice, but not too rapidly. Perhaps wait a second before hitting the button again. If done too quickly, it doesn't register. Had to try this a couple of times to make it work. I did another flight today and I can see it is very responsive, much more so than the ASI. With wind gusts/turbulence the display quickly flashes from green to yellow and back to green depending on the intensity. The effect of putting on flaps on landing approach is noticeable as the display goes from red to yellow and green fairly quickly. Hoping to learn more..

CYA-100 normal flight conditions

My CYA-100 AoA indicator has been installed and I completed a calibration flight with it. Works as advertised. Thanks to Rip for sending a replacement connector since we messed up with the first one. I need to clean up the wiring a bit and fly with it a bit more to figure out flights under various scenarios. I could see the LED lights respond instantly as I changed the plane's attitude. Putting on or removing flaps showed the expected behaviour.I can easily re-calibrate if my settings are too conservative or aggressive. I posted some pics in the gallery. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/35356-cya-100-installed-under-right-wing/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/35355-cya-100-normal-flight-conditions/

From what I have read there are "charge only" USB cables which short the data pins together in the cable which allows full charging capability of the charger. The "Apple" ports have this done which works for iPads and the like. For Android, even if the port can supply 1A or 2.1A the device may not communicate properly restricting the current to 0.1A or 0.5A. Google "charge-only micro USB cable" and you can read more about it. The other way I get around the charging issue is to take along a portable ~100W 12V->110V inverters plug it into the 12V socket and use a regular 110V charger that came with the device which will charge at the max possible rate. A bit kludgy but it works. Moreover, the inverter can be used for other things. Use at your own risk!

Any recommended Mooney specialists for fuel leaks in and around Northern California? Not sure if Top Gun or LASAR specialize in this work. The one I keep hearing about is Advanced Aircraft Services in Troutdale, OR.

I am using a Nexus 7 with Garmin Pilot (GP). The GDL-39 drives this with traffic and weather. It works quite well although I have heard that the Android version of GP does not have all the features as the iOS version. For situational awareness only, Avare and Fltplan Go work fine. One will need to get a different ADS-B rx to work with Fltplan/Avare. Fltplan Go has free georeferenced plates and taxiway diagrams. Avare currently has taxiways georeferenced and planning on plates soon. I prefer the Fltplan Go user interface to Avare. At some point, I may dump GP and stick with one of the free versions. I can get weather/traffic on my Garmin 696.

Mooney 201... matches what I have. A 252 would be even better!

I hope to have my install completed (except for the audio part of it) in the next week or so. Will provide some info to the group when it is done.

ADSB On the surface...rolling out, starting in DC.
wishboneash replied to carusoam's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
The GDL-88 can drive panel GPSs like the GNS 430/530, GTN 650/750 (and possibly other MFDs in the future). This seems to work much better than any tablet that may receive the same information. The Garmin Pilot app does not annunciate the same warnings unless you are displaying the Traffic page (if I am not mistaken). The KT74 or the Garmin GTX 330ES will not drive the panel avionics but will indirectly provide traffic info through a portable ADS-B IN receiver to apps/portable devices that can receive this info. -
ADSB On the surface...rolling out, starting in DC.

I may be waiting for ever. I believe the GDL-88 has given me a much more complete traffic picture which is what is needed (especially for me in the busy SF Bay area airspace). No amount of see and avoid would have prevented a head on which almost occurred when an aircraft departed an uncontrolled airport in the "wrong" direction for the wind. I was IFR and I saw the traffic on my GTN-650 (with an audible warning and flashing display) and I immediately deviated to avoid the other aircraft. So, if my life is on the line, I am not going to wait for the other avionics companies to get their act together and offer an integrated solution. -
The prop noise is significant. I think the engine noise is secondary. There is a big difference between a prop load and a gearbox load in a car. The prop tips reach almost supersonic speeds. Moreover, cars operate at 20-30% of their peak HP while our planes operate much closer to their max output. Routing the exhaust to the rear is not going to do much IMHO. Just adds weight.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea when not in use, to put the (electronic) detector into an airtight container/bag so it doesn't "pickup" gases that may reduce sensor life. I ordered one from Aeromedix (the Pocket CO 300), around $124 including S/H.
