  1. Texas: No sales tax if you can qualify as an occational sale (talk to a professional), otherwise sales or use tax is assessed at up to 8.25% (6.25 + local assessment) Property taxes are assessed on business personal property including airplanes on the portion used in TX; there isn't any property taxes if the airplane isn't used as part of a business
  2. Quote: DaV8or I hope this discussion remains civil and doesn't turn into the name calling school yard fight that always happens over on the red board... I would hate for MooneySpace to turn into a divided group just like the country.
  3. Quote: scottfromiowa I am scratching my head on that one too!
  4. Quote: gregwatts Wow. I really have no words...
  5. Quote: fantom True, and it's not an abort item. Keep the CB pulled out and go fly.
  6. Quote: KSMooniac If I'm not mistaken, the Garmin radios really need one! If it is INOP then I would run only one Garmin and hope that it breathes well enough while flying it to an avionics shop to get a good fan installed. I have an Ameriking something-or-other in my plane: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/ak_coolingfans.php (configure one on their page and see how cheap they are!)
  7. So we had to cancel a couple flights this weekend. Co-owner was going through checklist and the radio blower circuit breaker was popped. He tried to reset the circuit and it popped again. Flights yesterday and today were canceled. We had 8-10 hrs scheduled and we're both really disappointed. We're reasonably certain the issue is the motor. I found a used unit here (and it's local!!!!): http://www.dfwairparts.com/Avionics-24/Other-Avionics/C4140070101-19A2790-Cessna-Aircraft-Avionics-Cooling-Fan-Assy.html I know it says cessna, but it's the same part number as is in the Mooney parts diagram. There's a couple listings for overhauled units, but I suppose I'd prefer an overhauled unit and sending back a core (if it applies). If the list price on a new units is $700, what should I expect to pay for an overhauled part after returning the core? $300? Any problem going with a used part for the radio blower?
  8. Quote: 201er This is not official by any means but I would like to say right of way priority should be as follows: 1) short final (within normal base leg or closer to runway) 2) base 3) downwind 4) straight in 5) on 45 If someone is flying a 5 mile straight in final and there is someone on base that conflicts, the person on base has already been in the pattern and should continue the landing. Meanwhile the straight inner has the ability to move over to the right (in a left hand pattern), continue on the upwind leg and join pattern on crosswind. If someone on downwind is running in with someone already on downwind, they have room to maneuver or do a 360 to get in behind them. Everyone who is already in the pattern should already be properly spaced to not pose a conflict to each other.
  9. Quote: peott I was thinking about the idle time on the engine as well and at first I was thinking that could be an issue but, then I started to remember the last time I flew the plane....January 2011 before it went out of annual....and the weather we have had in Kansas since then. We have had probably less than 6" of rain since January and one of the hottest, driest summers in history. I really doubt that being ran once every four or five weeks in the last eight months, given the weather we have had is really going to put the engine in danger. If it had been sitting in Florida or up north where they had record rainfall and the higher humidity that goes along with it, I might be concerned. You couldn't have stored the engine in a better environment than we have had here in Wichita this year. Every time we changed the oil.....it looked like new since it essentially was. The plane has started within one revolution each and every time that I started it. Again, I would hop in it and fly it anywhere....well...maybe not to Europe but, anywhere in the US and not give it a second thought.
  10. Quote: PilotDerek Paul, A couple flaws in your response IMO. That plane does not have electric flaps, they are manual. Yes it has electric gear but many of us like/prefer the Johnson bar. I've seen a few people on this sight comment that they wish their 201 had a Johnson bar. Electric is easy but the bar is flawless. I honestly think your plane has more to offer than this one. The dual 430's and a huge bonus in my mind is the EDI 930. That is what I want in my plane. It replaces all the factory gauges. Just because of that item you still have room on your panel. The plane that All American has is nice but I do think it is priced a little high in today's market. I still believe your aircraft (if annual’d) is a better bird than All American's.
  11. Quote: PilotDerek Scott Not sure how you can say the STec isn't worth anything. Have you priced a new STEC-30 out or the JPI 930? Unless his photo was from when all his avionics were first installed a few years ago, they are all in very good if not excellent condition. He, of course, cannot get new prices but far more reasonable than what you priced them out for. I don't disagree that when all is said and done selling whole might be the better way to go. I know I for one would sell it whole, but I also do not have the time, storage, or patience to part out a plane. If someone does buy it whole I will be happy that a Mooney was saved, but a little sad that I cannot take advantage of good avionics/parts at a good price.

  13. Not sure if I'm going to make it to the homecoming (not sure if I'll complete my transition training due to other comittments), but if we come my wife may be interested. She's had a lot of exposure to small planes, but it's been 15 years and she has some apprehension. I'm sure she'd appreciate a little "Y"-less time in what I would expect to be a male dominated conference. On another note- where is the information on the pinch hitter course? Is it all ground or is it a combination of ground/air?
  14. When my engine was replaced in 2003 two owners ago, the dual mag was replaced with two separate mags. The story I was told by the prior owner is that the owner responsible for the overhaul had an accident traced back to the dual mag. I don't have any additional detail supporting the story.
  15. If you need to keep the Turn and Bank, you don't necesarilly have to have it visible in the panel. You could choose to remote mount it behind the panel.
  16. Quote: 201Pilot Interesting.
  17. Quote: jetdriven Thanks. I look forward to learning from you guys. I see your in TX- hopefully I'll get a chance to meet a few of you guys.
  18. Quote: txbyker Or it could be this. http://www.hendricksmfg.com/prod05.html JimR on this board had one for sale. I considered but my cables are all tucked along the yoke. SMCCRAY, I am based at KDWH. My 1987 is currently at Maxwell for annual.
  19. Quote: GTWreck Small world. Mine is 24-3020. And I'm really interested in how you like the 496 mounted up there too. I'm tempted to run out to the hanger now and play with that idea some.
  20. Quote: KSMooniac Congrats! She is gorgeous...I'm sure y'all will enjoy her immensely.
  21. Quote: txbyker Beautiful bird. Congratulations.
  22. Quote: jetdriven that looks like a super nice 205! Congratulations! Jealous!
  23. Quote: Magnum Great looking 205. You'll enjoy the little extras of the 205. What's your serial number? My registration is N205MG (24-3025), it seems yours was produced right after mine.
  24. Quote: Bnicolette B-E-A- utiful Congratulations!! What a sweet looking machine. I also really like where the portable GPS is located. When we ditch our MX200 at work, it is going in my Mooney so my panel mounted 396 will be looking for a new home. Please let me know how you like the GPS up on the center bar.
  25. N205MH is an '87 model. 5k hrs on the airframe, ~900 on the engine with all compressions at 78 or 79. Maxwell so go for it... so I am! Thanks to Parker and Scott for showing me their planes and answering questions.
