  1. Quote: bd32322 interesting - ebay had a bunch of AIs KI-256 that were sold for 750-1000 $ which is much less than overhauling the thing. In a dilemma :-| anyone willing to sell a known good KI-256 after their glass upgrade or know someone who might be willing to sell one?
  2. If I didn't have a J under contract (see my post next week) we'd be talking. Parker can share details if he hasn't already, or feel free to PM me if I can be of any help.
  3. Add me to list of Halo fans on the site. I just hate the feeling of the ear cups on the side of my face when it's hot outside. I switched to the Halos about a year ago. I haven't worn my Bose X since I purchased the Halo. The 30 day trial is a no brainer for $359.
  4. No news out yet on the engine monitor but we'll see very soon. The instrumentation looks like a 730/830, so if it's essentially a 730/830 with a remote display then I doubt it's a replacement. I would bet against a stand alone replacement because if it's a stand alone replacement I believe the minimum instrumentation would always need to be displayed on the screen. That would cut down on Aspen screen real estate significantly, not to mention it eliminates the possiblity of operating a 2nd aspen panel in reversionary mode. Quote: Parker_Woodruff So is it a standalone replacement for engine gauges??
  5. I pulled the attached photo out of the AVweb video on the Aspen connected panel. The significance to me is the engine monitor displayed on the Aspen panel. Elsewhere in the connected panel documentation JPI is listed as partner. The plane I have in pre-buy right now doesn't have an engine monitor... Edit: didn't hit attach
  6. Avidyne announced a GPS Navigator that looks interesting. The IFD540 looks like a competitor to the GTN750, but availability isn't expected until the second half of 2012. Has anyone visited the Aspen booth? Is there any news about an engine monitor?
  7. XeVision has a listing of field approvals for HID landing lights. Scott's 377 in on the website for his M20J. Pricing is inline with many of the LED lights I've seen.
  8. Quote: Jeff_S That position Scott describes is also very useful when it comes time to use the relief bottle or Travel John!
  9. Quote: bd32322 Hey Partner (bd32322)....PM Peter Lyons re: above. Craig...My SVT goes in next week. Can't wait to see how busy that screen is gonna be.
  10. Thank you Scott for showing us your plane! We had a great time. My wife is on board with the plane. She has long legs, but she was happy that she could sit in the plane comfortably without her knees touching the front seats. So... now to get serious about a new plane.
  11. Check Out John Deakin on Avweb: Pelican's Perch #15: Manifold Pressure Sucks! http://www.avweb.com/news/pelican/182081-1.html There's a bunch of different articles about how to operate an engine on AvWeb written by John Deakin. There's a subset of the articles posted on the Advanced Pilot Seminars website as a primer for the course.
  12. Quote: KSMooniac Scott, I'll be heading to McKinney/KTKI on Friday for the weekend and could possibly help y'all out... of course the weather will likely be miserable but if you're used to that in a 172 then it shouldn't matter in a Mooney.
  13. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Hey Scott, Good finally meeting you in person.
  14. ??? why doesn't that show as separate short paragraphs? It's a little difficult to read...
  15. Hi all- Parker gave me a brief introduction to the Mooney brand via his new bird yesterday and I have to say I'm impressed. I don't have to tell anyone on this board the many inaccuracies about the planes that I've heard and I have to say that I was a little surprised- the cabin was tight, but not unreasonably so. The back seats were small, but I would fit back there for a 300 mile trip without any real problem, particularly if I was sitting in the back alone. I looked at a DA40XL partnership deal and frankly I think I had more headroom in the Mooney than in the DA40, although the clear canopy in DA40 made it feel bigger. The M20J would be a decent fit for my mission and I have to admit I'm starting to eye the '84 and newer birds. It would be a big step up from the 172s I've been flying for the past 18 months, but I think it's reasonable with some intensive transition training including a multi-day VFR cross country trip. So the faceless new guy has to go there...anyone in the neighborhood with an M20J want to let me buy you lunch and some avgas? Before buying a plane, I'm hoping I can bribe someone into a short flight with me and my wife in the back seat so she can get an introduction to the brand, and a feel for what it would be like if we were to bring another pilot with us on a trip. I'm looking forward to learning from you all and contributing where I can. Scott
