  1. Good place to go is Llano (KAQO). Great BBQ (Coopers BBQ) and good fuel prices ($4.30) http://www.flyingmag.com/pilots-places/pilots-adventures-more/gear-taking-hill-country-spin
  2. Try Sherman, TX $3.80 per gallon http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSWI
  3. I am in San Antonio also. I owned serial #7 TLS (later converted to a Bravo) and then serial # 209, which the books say was the first TLS to leave the factory as a Bravo. If i can be of any help please let me know.
  4. When I had a 231 I dialed in the mixture and didn't mind burning an extra gallon an hour to keep the temps cool. That kept the CHT's below 400 and the TIT around 1600. $5 hr now can save an early top end later.
  5. . . . . sometimes
  6. Garmin 795 - latest November 14 software and database installed. Carrying case, yoke mount, aircraft power cord, take-home power cord. Excellent condition. $1250 including shipping. This is exactly the same as the Garmin 796, but without XM weather. I recently sold my plane but used it with a Garmin GDL39 3D to get ADS- B weather and traffic. It has Bluetooth built-in. I used both the iPad and the 795 and the 795 was rock solid - never let me down. It has synthetic vision and also can use the AHRS information from the GDL 39 3D for attitude reference. (One of the pictures below shows a stock 796 picture)
  7. Having gone through this earlier this year, send it in to Globe and they will rebuild it. When it comes back I think it's the updated roll pins used that make it the -513. It comes back just like new for around $400.
  8. It's my understanding that alll WAAS converted 430's and 530's are 12/24
  9. All Mooneys since 1985 have been 28 volt systems. I own a '97 Mooney Encore and they were still putting a 24v socket in for the cigar lighter. I think they started installing the stepped down 12v cigar lighter around 2000 and on.
  10. For Sale is a very well made Garmin GPS mount for a Mooney. http://www.hendricksmfg.com/gpsmount.html New it was $69.95. Half Price $35 plus $5 shipping.
  11. If you were thinking about getting a new Garmin 796, this is a good deal. I have a brand new Garmin 796 with the newest GXM42 antenna that has never been unsealed. (The GXM 42 is the brand new antenna that allows for more information to be downloaded to the Garmin 796. The older antenna is called a GXM40.) Thew new Sirius XM services have expanded on the basic plan to include many more weather products than they had before. (http://www.siriusxm.com/sxmaviation/features). I have both the iPad and a Garmin 796 and I like having both of them with me. The iPad overheats sometimes in the summer and the 796 is built very solidly. Garmin's list price on the 796 is $1899 and on the new Sirius antenna is $599. The price that retailers list it for is $1699 and $599. I'll sell the 796 and the GXM42 with everything else in the sealed box for $1675 plus $20 shipping.
  12. Nope that's a JPI EDM 800 in the picture https://www.jpinstruments.com/shop/ed-800/ The 830 is completely different, but the 800 is basically a 700 with Fuel Flow added and interfaced to the GPS. I get them confused all the time and have to go to JPI's website to make sure. That's a beautiful Ovation you're looking at! Nice choice
  13. If you're flying at those altitudes an Ovation probably makes more sense. No added turbo charger expense (cheaper annuals), lower fuel burn and the same speed at those altitudes. Plus all of the Ovations have the nice Fiberglass side panel interiors. Early Bravos didn't have that until '95.
  14. I have wingtip recognition lights, but if you forget and leave them on after landing while taxiing you can melt the lens. One suggestion is to put in an LED landing light and just leave it on - most have a 10,000 hour life expectancy and use very little current. I have AERO Led LX landing lights and they are great. I met the people from spenceraircraft.com at Sun and Fun and they made me a deal on a couple of them- $285 each. Prices keep coming down so they are probably less by now. I also hear good things about the Alphabeam from Teledyne also.
  15. and will block arteries too
  16. My hope is to never see see either of those lights and never be part of the most preventable accident in aviation - fuel starvation.
  17. Here are some that are for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mooney-M20R-Cluster-Gauge-Analog-Display-Indicators-P-N-A0260-Mooney-Ovation-/291198595735?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&hash=item43ccc9f297&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mooney-M20R-Digital-Cluster-Gauge-P-N-A0270-/291261656896?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&hash=item43d08c2f40

  19. Jimmy and David are top notch!!
  20. I am doing a panel update and I am pulling out a KLN-89B - perfect screen - no dead pixels. This works perfectly as a direct replacement for a KLN-89B with a bad screen or a direct slide in replacement for a KLN-94 with a bad screen - same pin outs. It does not come with a tray. Guaranteed to be working on arrival. KLN89B (works on either 14v or 28v) - SOLD Mid-Continent 28v annunciator - SOLD These are coming out of a one owner, hangared, 750 hour plane from S. California. Excellent condition
  21. I am in San Antonio. Dennis retired and closed Lone Star a couple years ago. Since then I use Dugosh - they are fair and across the field from Mooney.
  22. This kinda sounds like the "too good to be true" scam ads that they warn you about on Barnstormers. Hopefully not tho.
