  1. @Yetti 's F, since he bought an Eagle

  3. My motto is “Don’t lower your standard, just lower your cost”. About once a year I have to call SiriusXM to beat them up on price a little, telling them “I’m just not sure it’s worth it and I’m thinking of canceling. What can you do for me?”. But one phone call a year is worth it.
  4. And not be able to use Foreflight This goes round and round every few months on Mooneyspace Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The cellular version iPad is $150 more - when you sell it after a four years you can get at least $50 more for it. $100 over 4 years is $25/year (roughly $2/mo) for a ton of convenience in flying and in day-to-day life. I add it for $5 per month to my Go5Next plan. So $7 per month. Not a huge decision.
  6. The whine is the obvious clue you’re looking for in the alternator going bad. Just make sure that the whine isn’t coming from a passenger
  7. The single puck brakes are another reason why the M20L (originally Porsche) Mooney that’s converted to an IO-550 is not equivalent to an Eagle or Ovation. All of the M20Ls had single puck brakes and I don’t believe dual puck was part of the IO-550 STC.
  8. My 1st Mooney was a 14 volt 1983 K (231). At low rpm taxi speeds it would annunciate low volts until I brought up the rpms. In the mid-late 80’s when Js and Ks were upgraded to 28v, it was a significant upgrade.
  9. The most obvious answer is that the shop probably hasn’t been cutting open your filter. Or if they have been, they are expecting not to find anything so they don’t look very closely. $75 to have the filter analyzed is nothing in aviation dollars, But doing everything you’ve done so far with the filter may alter the results that they would find. If it was me I’d still send it and the next one to see what they find. I’d also sample the oil and send it off. I wouldn’t just assume it’s the new chrome cylinder breaking in. Pure chromium is not magnetic, but the alloy that they use in cylinder I believe has a weak magnetic attraction. The engine making metal on Lycomings is usually the cam lobe or lifters coming apart. Assume the most likely, hope for the best.
  10. In the ad they still call the engine a TIO-540-AF1A, which is the engine without the Bravo conversion (oil cooled cylinder heads). Since it's had a top overhaul you would hope that they did the Bravo conversion, but only the logbooks would tell the story. In addition to everything that's been mentioned, the early M20M airplanes didn't have dual puck brakes and didn't have the Eaton gear actuator. The gear actuator alone is probably $15,000 to swap out with a used Eaton, if you can find one. If you think about the major things: Powerplant (Engine/Prop); Airframe (budget for a gear actuator, tank reseal, gear pucks, dual puck brakes); Instrument Panel (35 years old); Interior(35 years old); Paint (35 years old), which boxes does it check? Really none. With that many things to bring it up to what people expect today, and if you compared it to other airplanes for sale that already have some of those things done, if you got the airplane for half of that it might not make sense. However if you bought it right, did the engine and flew it and were able to do some of the work yourself it could be a fun project. Ask me how I know . . lol? (At least mine had the good actuator and dual puck brakes)
  11. A lot has been mentioned on Mooneyspace about these: https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=HUBBA&quick=1
  12. If it's out of the country it's priced that way for a reason. By the time you pay a ferry pilot to bring it here, after you go over and inspect it and supervise a pre-buy, plus have the GTX-345R and the WAAS boxes installed, you're better off to buy one here that has those items already. (A WAAS upgrade at Maxwell, assuming they have the boxes, by the time you get it up to the latest software version will cost you roughly $35,000. A GTX-345R installed at the same time will set you back another $9000.) Although one without these things may appear like a great deal, if they didn't upgrade when WAAS became available and was much more reasonable, what else have they been too cheap to maintain? A "cheap" Acclaim might not feel that way after getting all of the deferred maintenance caught up.
  13. It's a 1991 J. https://www.flightaware.com/resources/registration/N9136B In 1986 the new K, the 252, was introduced with rounded windows. Beginning in 1987 the M20J 205 had rounded windows. I believe starting in 1989 all Js had rounded windows.
  14. Never heard of that before. It would be interesting to see that drawing. I had Encore serial #12 and it definitely had dual puck brakes. In time, I would make sure to do the brake upgrade. The stopping power is much better.
  15. Yes. https://static.garmin.com/pumac/gi275_autopilot_compatibility_c.pdf
  16. Are you putting a new filter in or did it just come out for service and you're putting it back in? Here are the instructions for re-charging the filter from the POH of the Acclaim Type-S:
  17. If I remember correctly, the dual puck brakes started with serial #0108 on the M20M.

  19. Frank handles both of those e-mails I believe.
  20. Contact Frank Crawford at support@mooney.com and let him know what you need. Frank is very resourceful.
  21. It looks like it's only approved for Cessnas (and Reims), but it looks like a direct replacement. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/igswitches.php They also have another kit with the ignition switch and locks that use the same key for baggage and door. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/igswitches2.php?clickkey=13673
  22. They might have just forgot to connect it when the put the belly back on. I've done that once or twice.
  23. That has the Pilot's guide, but he is looking for the Mooney-specific KAP100 AFMS that goes in the POH.
  24. Mooney has a whiteboard which we saw back on the tour during MooneyMax 2024 where they have parts that need to be ordered, the number backordered and the minimum order before they place it. The advice is to go through a Mooney Service Center. Have them backorder a couple of them for you. Sadly with some MSCs you have to convince them to place the backorder. Mooney has said that once they reach a certain level on backorder that exceeds their minimum order with the manufacturer, they will place the order. Quite a few people that have needed these in the past few years just demand them now and complain about the company, never place the backorder and won't listen to reason. I haven't needed many things in the last few years, but every time I have followed the advice they have come through for me.
