  1. What are the costs to do this job aside from the aggravation of the A/C weeping? I'd think that a knowledgeable shop would knw how to minimze that issue with fogging as was mentioned or perhaps by the use of smaller quantities. I'm not sure I want to fly around for a couple of years watching stuff weeping out onto my new paint.
  2. I might suggest a call/e-mail to Mat at Midwest Mooney matt@midwestmooney.com (618) 662-3377 who performed the upgrade on my Eagle from the early 280 HP STC to the 310 HP last Jan. Simply ask Mat for references of Acclaim owners that you might speak to about their real world experiences. They would have the info that you are looking for but may not be part of this board.
  3. I'm thinking of having Corrosion X or the ACF 50 process done on my Eagle but would like to use a shop that has done Mooney's preferably Ovations/Eagles in either NJ or maybe Fl. Any recommmendations as well as costs. Thanks
  4. Like Carusoam I had Reese paint my Eagle this past spring. It was a partial paint job of the fuselage and wing tips only & is pictured in another thread. It could not have turned out better. Nor is this my first experience with them as they willl handle followup issue with pleasure. They do use a clear coat process which is applied wet within two -three hours of the color coat. Ken Reece says this not only protects & enhances the undercoat but prevents the peeling issue of clear coats. If he did not do that clear coat which is standard on his paint work I am sure his price would be more competitive. He also will work with you if you have a competitive bid from another shop. More to the point however is the stunning design of Jeev's J. Congrats & enjoy. It is what you & everyone else see first when you arrive at the ramp. Nice job!!
  5. Depending on the mfg you might be able to reset the guage as opposed to getting new & expensive probes. I know that can be done with a screw on the Gem 602 case & the Gem 610 uses the HP palm computer to set the bar height. I'd imagine others can chime in on the EI or JPI units. What is your guage mfg?
  6. Now if we could just get him to do a similar video on some of our "political" discussions we could all really have a good laugh at ourselves
  7. Go to the insightavionics.com site where you will find installation instructions for the GEM 602-610 series including probe placement instructions.
  8. Send me your e-mail & I'll forward a copy oh the article
  9. Aside from the obvious national shops you might try the Peddlers forum on Beechtalk.com as these Bonanza guys are always upgrading their panals. Also Barnstormers.com & of course E-Bay provide good opportunities. You'll get a pretty good feel for prices if you take a trip through all of these sites not to mention good info on the latest software updates. As you know Garmin has announced it has discontinued the 530W so I'd expect prices to fall if you can wait a bit.
  10. The only crosswind tecnique I use & teach for a Mooney is airspeed control and a crab until just before touchdown with a rudder kick & full aileron into the wind. I also use full flaps most of the time. I like Jose's points about flaps but frankly have not used that as I really try to keep my hands off of anything except the controls & power. However I must admit I am not as happy with my own landings in my eagle as I have been in the other models. I am going to try both Jose's & Georges suggestions to see if that improves my own landings.
  11. As "A" points out Gumps at every segment downwind, base & final ans his numbers are what I also use. However on final keep your airspeed at 75 kts or so until the flare. I find that you are almost out of elevator control with max trim ans full flaps even with one or two aboard. You can try slower approaches within a few feet of the runway which I would prefer but I think you will find the A/C nose will drop hard &/or the A/C will plunk down on the runway. The Ovation unlike the shorter body Mooney's just does not have any excess elavator authority at the slower A/S typically used when light.
  12. Another possibility is to use wing/tail covers as well as the cabin cover although some companies have an extended cabin cover that covers much of the fuselage. I've even seen A/C completely covered & kept outside. The rust on the pitot tube & gear did not come with one year of use but rather over many years of abuse! Those are items that should be touched up at the annual or along the way and are easily done by the owner. Even chrome pitot tubes benefit from a polishing & wax.
  13. There was definitely an option for a factory five place interior on an Ovation. It can be seen on Delta Aviation's web site www.deltaaviationllc.com It consisted of a bench seat with three seat belts in the rear suitable for small kids car seats & small adults.
  14. Quote: Seth +1 Thank you. -Seth
  15. Ovation cured that issue
  16. There are a couple of the Mooney PPP instructors with heavy maintenance bkgrnds who swear by & recommend MMO for the oil but not for the fuel. The suggestion I got was to put a quart into the oil about 10 hrs before an oil change. That is supposed to really clean the engine prior to refilling. Presumably you could be using Cam Guard along the way. Like, others I've used Marvel in my cars with terrific results over the years so I am a believer. To the point of putting it in the fuel I'd wonder how much to add & what it might do. Obviously it will work thru the fuel system but personally since it is oil I'd be more comfortable with using it in the crankcase as opposed to putting it in the fuel system & worrying about what it might do.
  17. Try www.deltaaviationllc.com for a PDF manual on the Ovation 2 Use "Good Reader" app or another pdf editor to make the changes as required
  18. Quote: glennfly I have been using this additive in my plane since July, this is the 2nd bottle I purchased and enjoying a noticeable increases in the fuel efficiency and the shorter take off distances.
  19. Yes the cover bug is another known issue as in IOS4 the smart cover shut down the apps but in 5 the apps stay open draining the batt.
  20. My Icloud backup was off but Apple apparently feels the quick fix is related to a constant "ping" for setting of the time zones. Go to Settings>Location services>Sustem services>Setting Time Zones & turn "off". I'm waiting till after Day Light Savings Time
  21. Yesterday I flew from Atlantic City to Burlington Vt. R/T My Ipad 2 with Ios 5 was fully charged so I was expecting I'd have plenty of battery pwr for a 4 hour round trip flight. Nada. I had 5 % left at the end of the day. I suspect I had a total of 4-5 hours of actual use. Apple is now admitting to a bug in the IOS 5 operating system which shortens battery life on bothe the Ipad & Iphone. Just be aware that you will not be getting the same battery life as you did with the old IOS 4 operating sustem. There is a fix on the way. Separately I have not flown that route for a number of years. I could not believe the number of full route clearances that I received in both directions. I was doing 175 kts at 7 K LOP with a headwind for two hours & the return was 205 knots at 8 K LOP but a trip by way of Mass & Pa with 14 full route segments changed four times over 2.5 hrs. It was a drop dead georgeous day smooth as silk for my first time passenger so I did have some luck. I'd hate to do that trip in bad weather. I can't imagine the changes I'd get.
  22. More likely the engine & airframe are the same total times. Often what isn't indicated in an ad is the damage history. This has a three blade prop & no indication that there is no damage history so that is something I'd want to check. Simply because there is no NTSB report does not mean that there was not damge in the past.
  23. Still available but no probes or connectors just the indicator. There is a thread that I started whereby others indicated places to get probes if you need them.
  24. Yes , The Ovations & I'd add the 310 HP STC'd Eagle similar to the Ovation 3 would seem to be the champs . Keep in mind that the Mooney factory seems to uses the actual weight per gal of fuel which I think is 5.82 lbs as opposed to 6 in order to get their current payloads. On 100 gals of gas one picks up 18 pounds of useful load with that calculation. I've made several flights from Atlantic City NJ to Gulfport Ms. round trip with plenty of fuel in reserve at 9-11 K. The longest flight was 4.6 hrs start up to shut down.
