  3. You should pm "rbridges".... he just did a $10k job with Cole. He could tell you about Cole.
  4. Welcome dnc. The C is a great step up retract and won't ding you in the pocket book. You'll do great with it. Great instrument paltform for your instrument tx. It can haul four, but not for more than an hour or two and not comfortably. Keep an eye out for the high ticket items... cage corrosion, tanks and the engine.
  5. I will likely recover mine (79 J) with an adheasive lamanent. Make them look nice. The 14v Mooneys have terrible switch covers. The 28v covers are easier to get. Dennis at Lonestar used to have tons of covers. The Klixon switch covers, according to my A&P and avionics IA, don't conform. I don't know why. I see panel refurb after panel refurb in the photo galleries and nobody has been able to replace these. I have half a mind to go to Klixon (or their cover vendor) myself and have a run of several thousand made and sell them. I am also working on Mooneyspace "Lean Of Peak" Pocket Protectors too.
  6. Quote: jmcanally I read one article that the owner stated that he spends between $20,000 and $30,000 a year on his Bravo. Is this even close to being true? Jim
  7. Quote: jetdriven http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-6732264/Top-five-engine-myths-the.html Mr. Rogers, Please elaborate on this. The link discusses high rpm engine settings and is referenced in no way to the previous discussions below. Likewise, there is no mention of who wrote it or it's source. And with the utmost respect considered, TestWest is a great example of someone who puts their "data" where their keyboard is. These threads on engine management seem to all be laced with the catch phrases..... "the data"....."the data suggests"...."supported by data"...."new data indicates/proves"... "I don't have the data right now"...."let me check on the data". Please support your commentary with the........"data".
  8. Quote: NotarPilot My question for M20K owners is, how likely are you to need to replace cyclinders to make TBO. How much better does the M20J fair over the K in this area? Many J owners expect cylinders to go to tbo. I do. And even if you opt for a top, Lycoming cylinders will only total 4. I obviously own a J. If I owned a K, I would pad engine reserve for an 1100 hour top and chalk it up as part of the mission expense. The K is a heck of a capable airplane. If I lived out west, it'd be a must-have.
  9. More fabulous claims with % power reduction never fully quantified. However, another great read, Mitch. Give it a go Smiles. I'll follow with great interest and hope to be a convert some day. For now....... I like 155 KTAS at 8500 at 10.8. I also take great stock in flying one of the safest and most efficient engine/airframe combos in GA history.
  10. There is no FAA reg, I'd bet all the tea in China. Certainly not enforceable. An airport in Maryland had a large hangar fire in 1999-2000 ( 5 T-hangars). Several AC's were lost including a 700 hour 87 252 and Commanche 260, fully restored and just off a photo shoot for the cover of AOPA. In one of the 5 hangars, a local A&P was using a generator to operate a makeshift shop. He did good work and was a well liked guy. Sadly though, the hangar next to him had over 2 tons of paper documents stored from a professional office (in addition to the owner's aircraft). The A&P's generator caught fire and you guessed it, all five hangars went up. Point being, where does a municipality or state run airport draw the line? Frankly, at my home base, I see some hangars that look like an episode of Hoarders. This certainly doesn't enhance safety. I will say, there is a tremendous hangar shortage for many people who have airworthy aircraft and want a hangar....this is a certainty. Read your lease first.
  11. I had this rheostat replced a few years back. It was exactly $250. 14v.

  13. Their coprorate aircraft is a Mooney 231, so on occasion, they offer great Mooney insight. They make some errors with general Mooney information in reviews, nothing big. They are often at task to be clairevyant about new technology and regulation, which nobody could really do, but they try and do fairly well. They are the only game in town and the subscription pays for itself.
  14. 9 times out of 10, if you are rusty on landings, your visual scan has slowed or you are fixating on a point not far past your cowling. 70 KIAS over the numbers and keep your scan far down the runway.
  15. It's nice to see fair competition and not one, single company running away with it.
  16. I've had two...one Firewall Forward, the other factory new. Never an issue with a new or recently overhauled engine. Likewise, for several years, there were 4 Mooney 201's tied down next to me at my then home base. 3 were overhauled in addition to mine. 1 Mattituck, 1 Zephyr and 1 Factory. Nobody had an issue. A Lycoming engine past 50 hours/oil consumption is the safest piston you can fly.
  17. Aerocomfort is also pretty easy. They keep their word on turnaround. Mine were done in just a few days.
  18. Sure...keep flying it, but be realistic. Clogged nozzles, sticking valves, skipping-long starting mags, unbalanced prop, sloppy fuel injector servo, heavy oil consumption....all should be taken seriously and point to bigger issues. Don't let a mature engine nickel and dime you to death. I would carefully triangulate evaluation of dollars spent on ....an aging engine vs. prudent safety vs. dollars toward an OH.....from here on out.
  19. I always used bed sheets. Cheap, easy, effective.
  20. I think the vibration sensor would be of great value and would be a great tool for all ops across the temp CHT scale. This would be a must-have if upgrading.
  21. And I hear combined with the IO-390 (pricey and prohibitive), the net speed gain is nearly 6 KIAS. That aside, the top prop is just a great upgrade, seeking speed or not. This is great data. I read with interest. Keep it coming!! Thanks Norman.

  25. Quote: NateZ Would like to get a couple opinions about what this aircraft is worth real market value. I have a number in mind, and I have also looked at the book numbers and would like to compare. http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-M20C-RANGER/1970-MOONEY-M20C-RANGER/1194063.htm? Thanks, Nate
