  1. Is there any way to make XM weather information show up in your iPad or any other tablet?
  2. Indeed they seem to be all over the place. I have all day tomorrow to find the darn thing and yes I'm not buying anything until I'm sure what is failing. Thanks for all the good suggestions.
  3. I had the overhead panel off sometime back and I don't remember seing the horn. The side panel is easier to remove so I will check there, I guess another possible way is to follow the wires from the throttle switch. But I guess the switch should also be checked, what if it clicks but does not make good contact. The mechanic suggested checking the horn first because he though it would be easier.
  4. In my 68C the gear warning horn has stopped working. My mechanic checked the sensor (or however is called) on the throttle cable and said it was working (it clicked). He then proceeded to get under the panel on the pilot's side to remove and test the horn but said he could not find it. Next was to remove the outside cover panel and try to find it from the top but they were very busy and he said that I could do it. Does anybody know if the horn is under the panel on the pilot's side or the other side and is it accessible from the the bottom or from the top?
  5. No you are not, not a least by those of us who love flying. After 5K hrs, 14 airplanes, 3 of which were Mooneys and as I get closer to the end of my flying career, or at least of flying instruments or long x-country, I know that the most "fun" I had were those hours spent in the air with my squadron of taildraggers. I can remember many of the 700 hrs flying low and slow in my pristine 1947 Cessna 140, many of them in tight formation with my buddies either going to a fly-in, searching for a grass strip to spare the old timer the hardness of concrete, flying low over the Chesapeake Bay on our way to a soft shell crab sandwich or just following the river in the Shenandoah Valley. Now don't get me wrong, I love my Mooney but like you said it yourself, your Mooney is transportation and so is mine. BTW I drive one hour each way to my airport, a big pia but it has the least expensive hangars in the region, it is outside the dreaded special flight rules area (SFRA) of DC and does not have a tower so there is no expensive gas wasted waiting for a parade of students guided by a trainee tower controller (like in Manassas) PS if any of you knows of a nice Champ for sale within 4-500 miles of the DC area , please let me know. The pictures attached hang in my office as a reminder of those wonderful days.
  6. Gulf Coast Avionics quotes System 30 for experimental at $12K so I guess for certificated another 3-5 grand. Crazy!
  7. I thought I was a careful owner but perhaps not careful enough after reading Cliff's post. And yes, it was kind a very stressful thread.
  8. In my 68C the roof vent opens about 2" perhaps 2 1/4"
  9. Ultimately, I think that only the pilot can make the checklist process smooth and reliable. Siri to me would be one more distraction, particularly when shooting IMC approaches at busy airports.
  10. At $7.63 Clay Lacy better be nice. This past summer I used Aeroflight ($7.40 now) but I was coming one hour away from the east where I had topped of at much less. So I requested a top off at Clay Lacy and they gave me one night free parking irrespective of the amount of fuel I was buying.
  11. How do you get the airspeed and the altitude on the LH corner of the video?
  12. If at all still possible I would like to be placed on your standby list. Weather for the return trip to Va after the events does not look good but I may be able to hang around Florida visiting some friends for a while until it improves. House alarm notwithstanding, I am not as paranoid as other friends that while I am gone some nefarious individual will i) find where I live, ii) be close enough to make it worthwhile and iii) be ignorant if anybody else lives with us, make the chances of my house being robbed pretty remote so feel free to place my name on the list. Thanks for putting this event together, I know it must take a lot of effort. (Jose from Virginia)
  13. Years ago in an Arrow I had I repainted the whole area with Randolph wing walking compound using a paint brush and could not get rid of the brush marks. The stuff is very thick and does not smooth out by itself. I would recommend using a short nap roller.
  14. Here is my checklist, always there and if I don't use it then I have other problems I should be working on. Emergency procedures should be memorized since they are not that many but also be available in a laminated sheet.
  15. I love technology but I have never been a fan of electronic checklists for a handful of items. A professionally made placard for the critical items in front of your eyes or a laminated sheet should do. If you don't bother with either one why will you use an electronic one?
  16. I give up, thanks for the suggestions anyways.
  17. Dave, thinking about joining the caravan this year. When are the clinics scheduled for the NE or SE regions? I live in No Va. Thanks, Jose
  18. I operate the Apple iMac with Mozilla and standard english keyboard. No other text like font, size, bold, etc are available. Apparently I am not the only one, interesting.
  19. Though that Chris winter did not reply to em sent to the navstrobe@gmail so I was providing this alternate address ctwinter@gmail Just copied and pasted my friend's email which contained the address which apparently created confusion. Sorry.
  20. I have another email for Chris Winter from an email exchange with a friend of mine On May 3, 2013, at 3:22, Chris Winter <ctwinter@gmail.com> wrote: Not a problem. Just send me an additional $8.00 to my PayPal account for the tailfin strobelight at ctwinter@gmail.com and I will make the adjustments. Regards, Chris Winter NavStrobe Lighting
  21. I see the emoticon but shaded, like they are not available
  22. Why is it that I do not have access to the emoticons? What else do I need to turn on because under Post Options "Enable emoticons" is checked
  23. If I imagine correctly what Jetdriven means, I believe it is the way to go. One piece that does it all of a size that cover the existing round vents, which by the way, at least in my 68C are useless. Vacuum forming probably the easiest way, here is a link how to build one http://makezine.com/2011/09/08/how-to-large-homemade-vacuum-forming-machine/
  24. I believe that when you remove the existing set up you will realize that it is not as easy as you think, at least easy to end up with a nice "finished look". In any case I'm sure that everybody will be very interested in learning from your experience if you decide to go ahead and do it. Please take lots of pictures.
