  1. Scott, personally I like having as much information in front of me especially when flying IFR so I've been planing on installing either the G500Txi or G3X 10" depending on my autopilot future decisions. Currently I have an Aspen pro 1000 max and even though I like the Aspen it's hard on the eyes looking for details and so I use the GTN 750 and an Area 760 for additional information. I've self imposed a budget so further avionic plans are curtailed until the coffers are back to spending mode. Nice panel Lee, Did you have to keep the ASI and the Altitude Indicator to have the 7" G3X with the G5 installed?
  2. Just replaced mine as well as installed a new alternator. The couplings are expensive and hard to find but I was lucky to find one at Aircraft Spruce. I'd suggest to get the alternator replaced or rebuilt when you have it off.
  3. I've noticed that the oil takes at least a couple days to drain back with my 231 and it was similar on my J. So if the oil stays up in the engine and doesn't make it back to the sump area does the engine actually have enough oil for proper lubrication when you're climbing to altitude or even when cruising? I'm making the assumption that the oil pick up is close to the location of the dipstick.
  4. Looking for 3 to 6 overhauled or overhaul-able Continental TSIO 360 cylinders complete, for a 231. Steve sdawson 630 @ gmail . com
  5. I sold my Bravo through Jimmy and would sell or buy my next through him too. He surrounds himself closely with great support like Don and Paul Maxwell and has his own very competent staff Lynn and Tamara. Best way to contact Jimmy is definitely through email or text.
  6. Just removed from my panel upgrade. Was working fine before removal. Comes with yellow tags $300.00 for both. Shipping extra Steve sdawson 630 @ gmail . com 519 589 7034
  7. Who designed the Mooney M30, the 301? I think that was am impressive aircraft design, especially at that time of aircraft development.
  8. Just removed from my Mooney M20K for the installation of a GTN 750. Comes with all racking and connections and is 14/28 v. Works great and the screen very good. Will include shipping to the continental US and Canada. $5,950.00 US or Best Reasonable Offer Steve sdawson630@gmail.com 519 589 7034
  9. Hi Lance

II just bought a 1980 M20K with the Merlyn waste gate and an intercooler. The engine has 1400 hours and has had three cylinders overhauled over the last 12 years. Number 5 was just done 70 hours ago. There's an oil leak that is coming from one or possibly both of the two through bolts connecting numbers 4 and 5 cylinder. The shop that I'm using has found that whoever rebuilt or installed the overhauled cylinder before had but "O" rings on the face between the cylinder and the case in what I surmise is an attempt to stop this oil leak. So I have a couple questions for you if you wouldn't mind. One, have you ever seen this before and is it a common fix and two, do you know if it's possible or is it standard practice to pull the through bolts out to replace the two inner "O" rings that go on the grooves on these bolts? I should note that the some of the other O rings on other parts of the engine are hard so it's possible that this maybe the source of the present oil leak. I have an account on Savvy if you it would be better to send the question there.

    Thanks in advance Lance

  10. I think this is a pretty good deal. It doesn't say whether the Garmin are WAAS but there's value there plus even if the engine needs to be rebuilt or overhauled at $80K the plane would still be worth more than the amount you'll have in it. Besides with a good pre-buy you may be able to run that engine for a while. This also depends on the condition of the remaining airframe.
  11. With all due respect, you have no idea what the cause of this accident was even if you were the investigating officer. That will take time with professionals investigating this. There's many scenarios so have some respect for the families involved.
  12. Yes, that's why I'm asking about adding them to regular wing tips. In the ad they mention they're available for other Mooneys as well as Bravo's. I should have been more descriptive. I'd like to increase the light in front of the plane. Secondly it would mean fabricating a plate inside the lens that would hold both this light as well as the combination strobe/nav lights. So how much do these lights illuminate the area in front of the plane, what was needed for fabrication to install them and what paperwork was needed to have these approved.
  13. Has anyone installed these lights or are the lights shown in the attached file belong to someone here? I'd like to know what's needed to install them on a K legally. I have the original strobe/nav lights now but would like to add something like this to be able to add some night time visibility. https://flywat.com/collections/mooney-products/products/mooney-led-wingtip-recogntion-light wingtip Mooney.pdf
  14. I installed an Avidyne IFD 540 in my Bravo and really liked it. Very intuitive as well as the ability to load more information on the screen then the Garmin GTN 750. I liked that when flight planning the prospective route or procedure it was on the screen immediately enabling you to make the best decision for your route. I had the gtn 750 in my J and liked it but can say that they're definitely different but I don't think that one is better than the other.
  15. Thanks Clarence I had the same problem but lucked out with it only being a loose connector.
  16. @toomany were you able to get your problem solved? If it was your box how did you fix it?
  17. Just curious, how many hours do you think you'd take to strip and reseal both tanks on a K model? It's tough work and I don't mind working hard but I didn't want to spend a lot of time doing it. I remember a person on here (I believe he was an AF pilot who had a C model?) that designed his own striping system using PVC pipe and a pump that sprayed stripping fluid through the lower inspection covers then let it drain into tanks laid under the plane. The pump would then pick it up from the tanks and respray it.
  18. I'd phone around. I had Wingologists in Florida do mine waiting 4 months and just as I had delivered the plane to Florida, Weep No More phoned me with a cancelation. It's worth a couple phone calls. I hated spending the money but didn't want to keep trying to find holes that I missed and have to open the tank up again. They both have good reputations and guarantees.
  19. Do one tank or even a part of a tank and you'll realize it's cheaper to get one of the experts to do it. Just speaking from experience, a multitude of curse words and many scraped knuckles.
  20. Have you thought about the Avidyne IFD 540? It'll fit in the same spot as your 530 and the installation cost will be significantly lower. It has data transfer through to both their IFD 100 and ForeFlight similar to having the extra FS 210 installed. I've had both the 540 and the 750 and they each have their advantages. The 750 screen compared to the 650 and IFD 540 is an plus if your doing a lot of IFR and after awhile punching in frequencies and flight plans becomes easy during most turbulence
  21. I did my own for my J and M and others but have done auto cad and solid works for years. I had one shop quote $6.5K so I said no. I think I had 10 hours in the last designing it, $200 in the laser cutting including material, $200 in powder coating and the avionics shop charged me $250 for the aching. If I charged $100/hour for the design the total price would be $2000.00 I'd suggest that If you're not that way inclined you can also look for panel shops that will do these or just have the shop that would charge no more the $2K for it.
  22. Just a thought, the turbo is cooled by both the decrease in TIT, the air flowing around the turbo (not much) as well as oil supplied, so if your TIT cools down to as low as 850-900F look at your oil temp and see if it's cooled and stabilized. I don't think your turbo and the oil supplied is going to get any cooler than that. I have checked before but never timed it so I'll check this week and get back on how much time and the TIT, oil temperatures including the ambient temperature.
