  1. Incredible!! Hard to argue against the chute on that one. Ummmmmm..........Mooney International are you watching? Got chute? Great video. The pilot looked pretty comfy lying in the raft. Of course he had the eye in the sky and knew help was on it's way............so why not..........It's Miller Time.
  2. Beautiful video & scenery! Thanks for posting.
  3. I can't imagine a PPI taking only one day? Is he prepared to leave the plane with your shop for a day or two? Sounded like he was going to be staying with the plane while the mechanic inspects it? He should be prepared to spend the night. DON'T let your mechanic Rush through it just to satisfy the seller. You're the one you're mechanic is looking out for. Be prepared to walk if you get a laundry list of non airworthy items. Which could be the case if this guy is as cheap as he sounds. Just be careful. It doesn't take long to spend many thousands of AMU's even on an extremely well kept airplane.
  4. I so wish I could've stuck around and talked with you all. Family obligations beckoned though. Mike how long does it take for you to preheat? A cowl wrap would help you quite a bit I bet.
  5. Very very nice Doug! Now where is that drooling and crying emoji???
  6. Keep them donations coming!! I may make it. We'll see.
  7. One more pic and I'm done. This was Coming into Santa Ana yesterday: Very cool feature.
  8. José I don't think the cataract lens replacement are going to be too much help in this instance. It would be nice to have the enhanced vision too................but I don't think that's coming to the iPad. Or maybe Honeywell, Rockwell, Garmin, etc.... are just silly for adding SV to the latest and greatest cockpits. But again..........WDIK? For $25 I'll gladly take the extra resource.
  9. Here are a couple more impressive pictures with interesting terrain. It just adds thats much more "warm and fuzzy" when doing those low approaches especially in unfriendly terrain. It is most definitely a useful tool IMO! But WDIK
  10. Ha! I wish my Beech would go that fast. That was the work airplane.
  11. Got a chance to play with the new SV from Foreflight the other day. Very impressive. Kind of boring in Florida as it's all flat but approaching the runway, really showed me what it was capable of.............until I'm flying around the mountainous terrain. I was the non flying pilot on this leg so I was snapping screen shots down final approach. We were actually a bit to the left of centerline and Foreflight was "dead nuts on" with our position over the runway! It took them a bit to bring SV to us but they nailed it.
  12. After nearly a year of twin ownership I am utterly amazed at the fun I've had with it and the low cost of maintenance. Of course I purchased (with a partner) a plane that had been regularly flown and had progressive maintenance.............so we had very little to do other than put fuel in the tanks. In the year that we've owned it though, neither of us had canceled a trip due to weather or a maintenance issue. We put roughly 100 hours on it through the year. (I am a corporate pilot and he is a UPS pilot). I have loved every minute of owning this fine machine. Obviously, if you buy something that seems like a bargain you may be in for quite a surprise and a whole lot of maintenance costs. This machine could eat my proverbial lunch if lots of things started going wrong, but that is true of any certified airplane. Luckily and due diligence led me to an airplane that I knew would provide for a great dispatch rate with minimal maintenance. There are deals out there just because the market is soft but there are no GREAT deals. If you're headed into the twin market...........tread lightly and take your time. Pay me now or pay me later really comes into play. The fuel burns are a non issue considering the utility the twin offers. Especially with the Colemill conversion. A 14K single engine service ceiling (non turbo) and more than 500 fpm climb with the critical engine inop at gross weight. A remarkable airplane.
  13. I haven't either but at $2 a month I'm gonna give it a go! Foreflight has always done things to a higher standard (IMO), so I believe it will be on par if not better than similar applications??? Time will tell but I'm glad they are finally releasing it!
  14. Would take a bit of modification but this seems about the easiest way for the right seat passenger to get out:
  15. Are you talking about morning sickness? Starts to happen when an exhaust valve is sticking. I had two valves reamed out when I had my Mooney because of very minor "morning sickness". Fixed her right up. I started using TCP and never had a problem with it again. Coincidence or no? Not sure. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/9525-sticky-valve-lycoming-io-360-a3b6d/
  16. Mike, Why when you were landing was there a big split on what I assume are your EGT's? Your JPI was flashing/alerting you to it and it was upwards of 370? Is that normal on your engine?
  17. Actually my personal flying was about the same just more point A to B pointed trips as opposed to just taking the bird out of the hangar for a round robin. We did a lot of family vacation flights this year plus a lot of commuting to work. 89.3 hours since March in the Baron. The Super Decathlon will fill the void of just pulling the airplane out because I feel like flying. We're on the prowl for one and have room for one more partner if anybody close to us is interested. (5 total).
  18. Without question!!! He is my hero. Gotta say though that I've spent less this year on my gas guzzling machine than I did last year on my gas sipping beautiful "J". Of course all expenses other than fuel were divided by 2 thanks to a partner. Time for the Super Decathlon now.
  19. Hey you guys want to fly somewhere for dinner tomorrow night? Oh wait that's right........You're grounded until the weather clears.
  20. Nice job Mike. Weird seeing an engine at the front center of the plane. Was that the parachute you took off in the very beginning?
  21. It's going to be interesting to see what happens over the next couple years and what the FAA will allow? http://www.aopa.org/AOPA-Live?cmp=ALTW:L3
  22. Looking up the part# it seems it's 14/28 volts?
  23. Alan do I need to pull it out to find that out? Attached is an 8130 for the unit. The previous owner of the airplane sent in a bunch of parts for overhaul/repair/updating/etc. Airframe #2 (dragged).pdf
  24. I also use Blackstone on a regular basis. Nice to have a trending information. You know they say our engines talk to us and I think the analysis is a very important part of that information. I also like the trending information provided by the new engine monitors. For what the cost of the analysis is, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Very cheap insurance and reassurance that things are working together well.
  25. Fixed my post. Thanks Anthony!!
