  1. Thinking of upgrading to the IFD540 and have my spot in line for the 3rd week in January. Taking offers on the GNS530W unit but it won't be available until I get my Avidyne unit. If you are interested in the unit, please PM me. I will eventually put it on ebay if nobody here wants it, but thought I'd throw it up here in the mean time Can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrqmayo_JdGQc_6V4q-Usgg
  2. Everybody needs to "get right" before taking to the skies
  3. Erik I think that you'll find that these facts and statistics will be switching course. And in fact they are. The pilots mindset and training in the beginning of the CAPS evolution was very different than it is now. Now pilots of the Cirrus airplane are programmed to pull that sucker "now". Here is a great article explaining much better than I ever could. However, for the statistical side of it we will have to wait but my money is on the Cirrus proving to have a much better safety record (as far as fatalities) in an emergency situation. http://macsblog.com/2014/09/cirrus-fully-embraces-the-chute/
  4. Anthony everybody I've flown so far has been so humble/gracious...........it's really been a rewarding experience. Again, I wish I could afford to do one of these a week if not more. The picture was taken when we arrived in Pittsburgh (AGC). They started their morning out of FRG in a Cessna 182T to Harrisburg which is where I picked them up and continued on to AGC. It was their first trip in small airplanes and they loved the experience. They were real troopers too as it was pretty bumpy down low this morning thanks to the winds, but it didn't bother them. B
  5. Got to do another one today.
  6. Well they said it was an R44 but I can't imagine why they might be doing training exercises with a rear seat pax? Maybe it was a flight school though? Sad day and that ATC tape is just horrific. I wish I wouldn't have heard it or posted it.
  7. Thanks Chris. Will they actually be doing training exercises in the helicopter with three people in it?
  8. He sure does, he's got the coolest pair of aviator sunglasses I have ever seen.
  9. The two men on the plane were taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, but were being discharged, hospital spokeswoman Joelle Butler said in an email about three hours after the collision. The three people who died were in the area of the helicopter wreckage, but it was not immediately clear whether all were on the helicopter, or if someone on the ground was killed, Shipley said. The ATC tapes are very traumatic to listen to. Starts about 6:30 into the tape. One controller apparently working ground, Tower and Clnc Del.: http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kfdk/KFDK-Oct-23-2014-1930Z.mp3 Very very sad!!!!
  10. Lots of good thoughts here. I am personally a "fan" of the chute and if I were to be spending $600K+ on a single engine piston airplane, I would want the chute option. It certainly adds a lot of utility (in my opinion) that gives me the "out" that I must have even though statistically speaking the odds of an engine failure are low. The threat still exists and therefore I could not commute to work at night or low IMC over the route that it is. Survivability is the key for me and I always want an answer for whatever may happen in flight to survive with a solid plan. Coming down on fire under a chute doesn't sound like a good idea??? There are obviously situations where the chute is not the good option but it's just another tool in the box to meet whatever emergency you may be encountering. That surely can't be a bad thing!!!! Not sure why so many are opposed to the chute? As I get older (and blood pressure gets higher), I'd sure like the chute option for my family also. Hmmmm? Anybody want to buy a Baron then all I need is 5 partners so I can afford the plastic airplane with a chute.
  11. José, Correction: Safe Airline - Provides hazmat suit
  12. Well put Alan. That's what I like about you easterners....................say like it is. LOL
  13. That's the decision you get to make when you have the chute Anthony. Maybe it was the only one around with who knows what around it. The chute worked as advertised and nobody got hurt. I'd say that was a successful decision.
  14. I just really looked at their flight aware page. Wow.......they flew the piss out of that thing :30 at a time. Looks like a commuter.
  15. http://www.wxii12.com/news/Small-plane-makes-emergency-landing-in-Davidson-County/29273718 http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N242MB Damage doesn't even look too bad....................well from a 100 yards away via photo anyhow.
  16. We need a better selection of emoticons like BT has so we don't have to copy paste them. Paging Craig!!!!
  17. Well, you ain't getting my portable ADSb unit buddy!!! Look at what a waste of money this was, and I've been using it for the last two years. This pic was taken yesterday. ( I really think it will be certified before 2020.......See pinocchio pic. )
  18. Got to do one on 9/23/14 to HPN. I wish I had to cash to do these flights all the time. The gentleman was blind and was heading up to have some retina surgery. Super nice fellow and very very appreciative. What a great reason to get the horse out of the barn.
  19. +1 for Blackstone. I used to use AvLab but I like the Blackstone reports better and as said above, they give personalized commentary on what they are seeing.
  20. Doug the big draw to Flightstream for me is the ability to send a flight plan over to the GNS530. Otherwise if you've been given an airway in your clearance you have to twist in every single waypoint along the way. It will not accept airways only waypoints. Pretty please post some pictures of that panel once it is complete!! I hope all is going well with 62G and you are enjoying it. Are you doing any traveling in it?
  21. Silly silly man. You know better than that.
  22. You hit the nail on the head. If you spend all that time twisting in some of the fixes that you've been given, then it changes again. then again, then again, it would be nice just to make those changes on the iPad and then send them over to the 530. All my flying is in the northeast and it's no big deal, it would just be a nice "gadget" to make things a bit simpler. Well maybe simpler?? So much stuff in the cockpit these days.
  23. BTW..........great to see somebody from Penn Avionics on here!!
  24. Hey Chris at least she's getting some use. That's a lot of gas. LOL
  25. I did a PALS (compassion/medical) flight the other day to HPN and the flight out would've required a lot of knob twisting on the 530. Luckily it was VFR and as soon as we were clear of the TFR we cancelled IFR and took the straight line home. However, the Flightstream would've come in handy.
