  1. Good Morning Everyone, Owner of a 2005 Ovation 2 w/G1000 non-WAAS. Like to upgrade to WAAS but local FBO indicates a possible problem caused by Mooney's on again/off again support structure/personnel issues. When time permits, please advise of accepted procedure to upgrade (and/or replace) my existing G1000 panel to a WAAS version. Thanks, gwcolwell
  2. Have had N862HL for approx. 10 years now and am based on the coast of Maine @ KBHB. After I purchased the plane from an inland Maine I outfitted it with a Garmin 430 WAAS and got my ifr ticket. Feel the plane is a good fit for winter conditions. Have to be cognizant of snow bank heights when taxiing, but that's it. It's fast, economical, and very stable in rough environments.
  3. One C40S $89.00 Two C35 @ $120.00 ea. Two C-10 @ $149.00 Friend having some rough times has them for sale. Send me a note and I'll forward contact info. Anyone can buy from her direct.
  4. Friend of mine going through some rough personal times. She has a handful of Softcom headsets for sale at dealer cost. Drop me a note and I'll forward the email to you.
  5. Have you a picture of it so I can make sure we're talking of the same thing?
  6. Has anyone any help?
  7. Landing gear failed to come down all the way last week. LASAR has the old mechanism. Just got the following email from them. If anyone can help locating the parts mentioned within, would very much appreciate it. "George, the tech that does the motors has determined that the emergency engage is the source of the noise. He ran it when he first received it and yes it was noisy. He removed the emergency engage unit off of it and ran it and the noise was gone. He took the engage apart and it is thrashed inside. I’m trying to source one but am not having much luck. What is needed is the p/n 40609A and it has the casting number on the outside of the case 125182A. Everyone needs to be looking for this including the people at Columbia Air. May have to buy a complete unit to rob the engage part off of. LA11C2110 or LA11C2114." Regards Dan Riesland Parts Manager LASAR 800-954-5619
  8. Put a Garmin 430W in my M20F 5 years ago. Total cost was approx. $11,000.00. Did it for IFR training and future IFR flights.
  9. Resealed the left hand tank on my M20F. Spot sealed the right. Caused minor paint damage at screw hole area around access panels. If doing it over again (and I'll have to do the right hand tank sometime soon), I'd reseal the tank and then paint the whole wing so the paint would match.
  10. There's a switch in an F model in the RH gear. I always called it the "squat" switch. Purpose of the switch is to disable the landing gear operation when it "sees" the landing gear is supporting the plane on the ground.
  11. Want some venison recipes?
  12. Bought my M20F and assisted on the annual in lieu of a pre-buy. Safety related expenses picked up by the previous owner. Maintenance expenses and cost of A/P split between us. Cost me approx. $900.00 foe the first annual/pre-buy. Plane was across the state and A/P was willing to work Saturday & Sunday with my help. Don't consider Vref an accurate measure of value. I poured over the trade mags for similar planes and took approximately 10% off the advertised prices. Then I compared specs, thus coming up with a value I thought was fair and marketable in case I needed to get out of the plane quick. A plane is like a long term investment. Buy what your happy with and keep it. Spend money on it when necessary. Spend money on it to make it better than when you purchased it.
  13. Taking wife to Pennsylvania for a couple of days for sightseeing and hotel sex. Any suggestions? Where to land? Motels? Rental cars? Thought about landing in YORK (KTHV) and renting a car. Travel to Lancaster for a day, then the Gettysburg area for a day. Comments? Suggestions?
  14. N862HL, new engine overhaul by Aerotec, new Top Prop, GAMI's, new power flow exhaust, Garmin 430 WASS. What's your monetary pain threshold?
  15. Overhauled engine installed spring with GAMI'S & new Power Flow exhaust and Top Prop. Tail pipe chrome discolored badly first LOP hour of operation. However, fuel consumption dramatically better than before. So much better, I'll put up with shortened exhaust life expectancy.
  16. Field wire on 74 M20F is shielded for noise issues. Shield is conductive and will breach the insulator/barrier between the shield and the field wire, shorting the field wire and making the regulator think it's pumping lots of amps to the alternator field. Disconnect the shield at both ends or run a temporary jumper to the alternator field and do a run up. Stick a voltmeter in the cigar lighter to monitor alt output.
  17. Flying back from KPYM this AM. IFR 7000 ft. Started feeling a little light headed so I took my pulse rate & blood O2 levels. Both were low 90's. Not accustom to having heart rate more than mid 60's to low 70"s, although I never have checked it. Wife's heart rate was mid 60's. O2 saturation was high 80's. Need a little reassuring. Was dealing with ATC around Boston. Suspect heart rate should have come down when near Portland.
  18. Anyone ever posted pictures of a recent AirTex interior redo? If so, please advise where to find them.
  19. Have a 1974 M20F Exec. Made several phone calls to Oxford Aviation interior department. No one has seen fit to call me back though. They're either too busy or have poor business skills, or both.
  20. Thank you. Got yours in the air yet?
  21. Need a tear drop shaped handle that is used to recline the rr seat. M20F Exec. Mooney part # 140171-000
  22. M20F owner here. Had a consistent oil leak between the case halves @ the lower seam between the starter & alternator. Leak had been addressed a couple of times by various methods, epoxy, case bolts, etc. Fuel tanks were leaking @ annual time so I elected to seal the tanks & pull the engine. Sent to overhauler. Upon disassembly & inspection the overhauler found the front main bearing locating tang had rotated up into the case thus rendering the crankcase ng.
  23. Overhauling engine and bought Power Flow.
  24. Heavy duty truck dealer, small businessman. Make paychecks for 12 other people.
  25. Would agree. I too learned in a 152 and jumped into an M20F Exec after about 150 hours in the Cessna. Bought N862HL for $75k 5 years ago, 3400 air frame hours, 1100 eng hours. Am presently spending $30 - $35k to overhaul the engine propeller and reseal the tanks(doing the tanks myself with the help of of I/A). Spent a good amount of time getting my instrument. Finally got it Nov 2012. Point is for the price point you describe, your going to buy a Vintage 180-200 hp version that can be flown for a while before spending $$ on it, or a turbo version that you can spend money on in a relitively short period of time. Looked seriously for a turbo powered plane with known ice before spending $$ on N862HL. More powerful planes (not necessarily Mooneys, but ones I didn't have to spend $$ on imediately) were going for $150K and above.
