  1. I will be interested in hearing what people think. I just recently had the tops and leading edges of my wings repainted and was thinking this might help keep them looking nice....
  2. I will tell you what I saw when I changed out the windshield. Unfortunately I did the oil cooler reloaction, flap gap seals, wheel well liners and the 201 windshield. Before I did the mods in the 7-9K altitude range I would typically see around 148 KTAS. That was done taking the indicated a/s and plugging in the OAT and the PA. After all the mods were done I see 156 KTAS in the 7-9K altitude range on around 10.8 GPH. Hope this helps some. Sometime in the near future I would like to get the tail mods done and when I do I will post those results.
  3. Hey thats awesome man.....I am glad they are getting the parts back in stock....you will LOVE the looks and the speed increase is pretty nice.....In my F I always see around 155KTAS....so keep us posted and take pictures of the progress....I cringed when they cut the roof.....and took off the cowl deck.
  4. Very sad indeed. I like how the seller puts all the impressive stuff first......then says its just a simple prop strike....thats 75% less than a overhaul.....not to mention how the hell do you get it home.....maybe you can get a one time flight from the FAA....LOL....oh yea first it needs to be put back together. Maybe if it were such a steal the seller should fix it up and then sell it and reap the 100K I the buyer will supposedly save.....
  5. Well congrats on your new airplane. You need to upload some pics of your new bird. For me when I wasnt using the Ipad I had my chart and approach plate on the glareshield....I don't use a kneeboard. Sometimes if the other front seat is not occupied I'll throw the stuff there. How much stuff are you flying with?? Maybe get something that you can put behind one of the seats....IDK. Also down by my feet I have a couple of pockets and that is where I usually put my flashlight and checklist.
  6. I would go ahead and start on your instrument rating. Here is the catch....just because you have it doesn't mean go out on your next flight and fly to minimums. It is my opinion that flying under the hood while good is not at all comparable to flying in hard IFR. Its just not the same. So take it easy. The one good thing about starting your IR after you PPL is it will make you a better and safer pilot. The other nice thing is that you will have the knowledge and skill set to help you get out of the weather. Even though I am instrument rated I don't like to fly in hard IMC. Its just no fun. The nice thing though is climbing through the weather and flying at 10k or 11k in VMC above all the crap weather. Can't do that unless you have a IR. So I know I ramble...but I would do it. You will be a better prepared pilot. Just know your limits....
  7. Quote: Antares I would recommend that somebody pass that thread on to the NTSB as it may help their investigation.
  8. Deleted, forum signed me in as someone else.
  9. So has anyone gone ahead and done this?? I am seriously looking into it. Any PIREPS?
  10. My sides have been replace with grey as well about a two years before I did the front. I love the look. It is hardly noticeable and I have not had any issues at all with visiblity.
  11. I had the green tint when I bought the plane and when I upgraded my windshield I went with the solar grey and LOVE IT.....would definately do it again.
  12. On my aircraft the heim bearing that connects to the aileron is starting to wear. My A&P told me it will need to be replaced in the near future. The problem that you might run into is that if your plane is like mine and it probably is....the rod end and bearing that connect to the aileron is no longer manufactured. Mooney upgraded the part and instead of pinning the heim bearing it is now screwed on or welded to the tube. Those parts are around 300 per side. Currently no MSC has them in stock. Before I moved back in Sep there were 5 avail. I spoke with Lasar and Dugoush and they said it will be awhile before any are back in stock. Dugoush said if you can find the Heim bearing your A&P might be able to remove the old and pin in the new. I have had no luck finding the exact Heim bearing that Mooney has used. I tried aircraft supply. They have one that is close but not the same. I would though have your A&P figure out where exactly the slop is. But like I said mine is starting to wear where the rod end connect to the aileron.
  13. Thanks guys....going to probably skip that one for now.....still looking at the tail mods this summer.
  14. Hey guys I found these on Ebay and was wondering if: 1. Is this a good price? 2. How hard would something like this be to install on a M20F and would it require a field approval? 3. Stupid question but this is for the main gear doors correct? As always thanks. 15. Thanks for the input....kinda what I was thinking. Any ideas where the problem might be? Does that have a direct input to the speaker? I wonder if it came loose.
  16. Hey guys, quick question for you. Can you test the stall indicator on the ground with the engine off? I am assuming you can. Today I was going over my plane and when I actuated the switch.....I didnt hear anything. Any ideas?? Oh and yes the master and avionics master were both on.
  17. I would never hot load/unload pax. Just to much risk.
  18. Byron, I agree. Some of the sellers are out there on their prices. I think if those yokes were selling for say 1200 they would sell. As far as 3500-4000 for the retro kit....I think Mooney is out of their minds. It sure as hell does not cost that much to produce a part like that.

  20. Quote: N601RX Mooney retrofit kit 940021-50x provides the legal mechanism to upgrade. Most people just find the parts on eBay or from a parted out newer model http://www.mooney.com/images/MooneyMax/retrofit_kits.pdf This will also remove the 500hr ad inspection of the control shaft
  21. I am a CFI/II & MEI in Enid, OK......about 1 hour north of OKC.
  22. I have looked into every mod out there and currently the only thing available is the lower cowl enclosure but Lasar and ARI has a few options that mimick the 201 cowl. Depending on how you have it installed and the quality of the install the lines on the ARI cowl can look pretty nice. Still thinking about that one. As far as the 201 cowl installed on your bird....its possible but you have to get a field approval from what I understand and those are getting harder and harder to come by....good luck. Realize that the lower cowl enclosure does work and does provide a modest gain. -Ray
  23. I seriously considered a C177RG. I absolutly love the way they look. I love how easy it is to get in and I like the high wing for shade and rainy days. However, I did not like the problems they sometimes have with the gear. I also did not like that the doors were flimsy. You think its hard to load baggage into a Mooney.....try loading a Cardinal more than one bag high. Panel space is great in a cardinal though. Speed is ok in a Cardinal but not as fast as a Mooney. In the end I went with the Mooney because I love the looks and love the speed. Good luck....if you do go with a Cardinal go with a '76 or newer.
  24. So are there drawings or something showing what it is supposed to look like? Also when I bring this to my A&P I just say there is this AD can you inspect it? This is the first AD since I purchased my plane.
  25. Hey guys I have my 2 year checkup coming due in May. I was wondering how much I should expect to pay for something like this? Also, is this something that I can have done in an afternoon? Finally, anyone know of a good place somewhere kinda close to Enid, OK (KWDG) to take it to? As always thanks. Ray
