  1. There are 24 volt aircraft batteries that don't require 2 batteries.
  2. I know of a few mooneys out there that were intentionally cranked up a few rpm's to pick up a few hp, but it doesn't make it right, or wrong. As long as it's not into the 'overspeed'. Like jetdriven said, I would verify that's actually what it is and leave it. One my prop there's a static pitch adjustment on the front of the hub, that limits the low pitch stops, checked at static rpm, once rolling or in flight the governor limits rpm.
  3. GI106A is a few years old, has harness to pin it to a 430/530, 200 hrs roughly in plane, upgraded to HSI. KX155 and KI208 are est from 01, but plane didn't fly till 06, and were removed in 2010 selling for a customer, make offer on any and I'l pass it on I can't seem to upload pics, email me for pics
  4. I just installed an RC Allen2600-3 an old aircraft as primary, as it is an all electric system. I wasn't impressed at all with the display quality of the unit, the screen was very jittery, for a high tech 2500 piece of equipment. My pirep without even flying behind it. I was stoked about getting one as standby till seeing it in action.
  5. Mine is the same as Sabremech, but mine starts rougher than I'm used too, engine mounts are fairly new, it just feels rougher through the airframe than most. I started a friends J the other day and it was noticeably smoother. Runs smooth though
  6. I just saw this, thought some might be interested http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270964611959&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNAFP:US:1123
  7. Quote: Kris_Adams Yikes, that video was disturbing...
  8. I don't know anything about the airport, but the idiot who comments on the news article about closing the airport after the crash is whats wrong in this country, pure ignorance imo. Glad they survived it, The airframe probably helped a bunch.
  9. I have a pdf file printed from a cd, thats pretty small, for ibooks, or importing in to foreflight, or whatever. Maybe the new site will have a hosting section for little things like this, 337's and so on.
  10. Maropers, Panels look good ! I checked out that company, I'm might get started sooner than later.
  11. I never mentioned prep.. KSMooniac got it
  12. You could try airbrushing it in (Preval sprayers work well for heavier paints like you'd use), overlapping back past the edge of old paint, and finishing it out with a little wetsanding with some 2000 to help smooth blend it together, but blending the new into old, away from the repaired area, then rubbing compound to further blend and shine it up. For touchup like that you can use most any kind or brand of urethane available from a paint house. Clean it well, scotchbrite and sand the edges of the paint to hide the edge, and to help it adhere to the existing paint. I have found that the time trying to blend something usually outweighs just refinishing the whole piece, but conditions may not allow that. My hanagar is still a mess from my paintjob, stop by and I'll help you out :-)
  13. After somemore flying with it please do some updates. Though not certified, (overrated in some aspect) it is a great idea and affordable enough to have in the event the certified gyros fail or systems fail, not that I'm in that position much..but
  14. is the gps 12 and/or 24volt? or were you refering to annunciator only?
  15. I know I've been padding the numbers slightly for safety, but never actually went out with a cfi and stalled the thing to see how it looks, and feels, and at what indicated speeds, Especially compared to my old 150. After a few hours of various configurations, I feel a ton better in the airplane. It stalled straight ahead, and there was no shortage of indications it was to slow ! Now for the instrument rating.
  16. It has outputs compatible to most any CDI, the GI-106A has the annunciation built in to meet certain requirements in the install manual (distance from center, source etc. come to mind)
  17. Quote: davidsguerra there are old pilots & bold pilots, but no old, bold pilots.
  18. Oh, Unless it's electronic ! If so, check wires first as Mitch said
  19. A tach cable that is getting ready to let loose can cause that. It spins considerably slower speed than the engine, if it's binding in it's flexible housing it can catch, wind up, and release to put it simply, causing the spike. Same goes for inside the instrument too. It's just a cable housing that screws onto the tach drive on the back of the engine, with what looks like a small wound cable/spring that runs the length and spins, transmitting the rotation to the tachometer. It's simple, either can cause it, neither one cheap.
  20. I just checked on getting my Stec 30 fixed up, has the Turn coordinator overhauled, had Avionics test the computer and servo, computer was perfect, servo, not so. Conveniently Stec just quit supplying the replacement motors for my servo, you must buy a brand new servo now. The price just went up too.
  21. I also agree with Becca, Aircraft services are not different than any other service, on time within reason, good communications, fair prices, integrity, and (I'm cheap myself) a sense of economics. I own my plane too, it doesn't mean my trees at home grow money. I take care of a few turboprops, them boys are as frugal as I am.
  22. Quote: Sabremech This topic has come up before and my comment will remain the same. As an A&P/IA the stories of dead beat and cheap pilots who won't pay their bill is the same as your list of bad shops or A&P's. If you're going to have a place to post reviews of shops or mechanics, then there needs to be another one for mechanics to share their experiences with cheap pilots. It goes both ways folks.
