  1. See post right before mine ... you will need to drill a bigger hole to install the rivenut. Most likely you will be fine. But not great to have to remove a rivnut. In this case, not that big a risk , I d say . But as a principle I prefer to delay going that path.
  2. For me rivnuts are a good option but always as a last resort in a case like this i would try to place a tinnerman (there should be a way to access ) , grease or aluminum tape may be your best friend to keep it in place
  3. I believe you are talking about this fairing there is an inspection hole that allows you to place the tinnerman nuts one side can be a one person job other side you may need help unless you open both inspection panels
  4. Making a new one to dimension is not difficult . Just need to understand what bend radius is what set back is .... etc... it becomes tricky depending on what you have at the top of the stack and if you have to remove the annunciators at the top since they are often riveted
  5. I don’t think the IO-390 is STCd for the E model and I don’t think it is an IO360-A3B6 in an E model either
  6. Not the case anymore. You can get an IO390 and use the IO360 as a core going from IO360A3B6D to an IO390A3A6 is exactly the same as going from an IO360A3B6D to an IO360A3B6. (Read ....you will need a few brackets for the governor and reset the governor) you can also have electronic ignition . the weight is the about the same , the cost is about the same the difference is the need for the Hartzel prop and those brackets
  7. I have the same configuration you have (CIIB and 60PSS) I have a DAC31 installed and it works great I also installed a G5 as an AI (to replace a TC) including a GMU 11 and GAD29B and tested the GPSS functionality (built a harness) and it also works great. I am waiting for the Vacuum DG to go belly up. you will need the GMU and the GAD29B the DAC31 would be cheaper to install and is simpler to use (annunciation is good) but the G5 provide a better platform to get rid off the vacuum system
  8. How do you get a ferry permit ? I believe it involves talking to the FSDO
  9. The weight of an accessories only determines if a new W&B is required and not if a change is major, minor or preventative maintenance. Guidance is no change in W&B required for less than 1 lbs indeed the install of those strobes is an STC (SA800EA) and it does not include the J model (only B C D E F and G). I am not sure many file a 337 ! On the other hand, i don't believe removing power supplies and bolting a new strobes systems is preventative. I will leave it at that.
  10. I don't believe the verbiage allows you to repair a landing light circuits. I allows you to replace the bulb I would need to re look at the list but i don't believe any of the "preventative maintenance" items allow for a change in weight and balance
  11. Preventive maintenance Appendix A allows you to change a light bulb or lenses. I believe the scope is wider here since it is a whole strobe light system which may have an impact on the power draw and W&B with the removal of the power supplies.
  12. Again, BEFORE doing any work, make sure you find an A&P willing to sign off on your work.
  13. running a wire is simple but a contortionist exercise. Opening the panels is easy. Safety wire can be a mechanic's best friend to pull / push the wire from one bay to the other through the holes. Making a "clean" install by bundling the wires can be challenging (and you do not wan the wire to interfere or chaff with the control rods. I don't believe this is an pilot's preventative maintenance task .... so before going there I would find an A&P willing to sign off on your work .... and not wanting to be be paid even for the hours you put it just my 2 cents
  14. The hole is not in the asphalt though
  15. if you cannot visually identify what is installed, here are some suggestions: Maybe looking at the POH will give you the list of what was installed at the factory ? Maybe looking at the maintenance logs will give you what was installed after the plane came out of the factory ?
  16. The color code of a wire will not indicate where it should be connected. It can only help you trace where it is coming from i don’t think there is such thing as a clutch in a trim switch Again, someone needs to positively identify what trim switch You have
  17. There is a new one on eBay for sale for 275 ... ~ $330 when you add shipping , taxes ... so that’s an option new LED would be 4 times that with install I like the sync feature
  18. If it is a century switch, the century website has the wiring diagram for the different trim switches. But honestly, you may want to have a shop look at it and redo the wiring for you. it is too risky to just guess what you have
  19. That’s weird because I have a 60PSS and it is a split trim on the yoke the original part is made of plastic that becomes brittle over time and breaks. It is not cheap to replace and the Cignet part above made of aluminum is a great replacement. the 2 switches are 3-poles switches and, if the plastic part is in good shape, can be replaced for cheap if you have the wiring diagram and are good with soldering. Note that the Cignet part above includes the 2 switches (they are the red color switches)
  20. So what altitude hold system is it ?
  21. GPS5000 or FMS5000 (Loran)
  22. If you look at the CIIB schematic, it requires: a Roll error from an AI (no pilot intervention) a DG error from a DG (Pilots sets the heading based on compass) the GI275 would be capable to provide both since it had both info (if wired to a GMU for example )but the idea would still be to get a GI 275 (configured as AI) to provide roll error and a separate GI275 or G5 (configured as HSI) to provide DG error
  23. Spruce carries adapters . Good quality and very reasonable prices
  24. The minute to shut down is to give enough time for the pilot to select battery operation in case of power failure . On a G5 it is 45 seconds and you see the countdown I wonder what aesthetically, a GI275 AD above a G5 HSI would look like . honestly I prefer the square look of the G5 despite the lower resolution
