  1. Depends how the agreement is written. I would never enter into any agreement where the seller refuses to transport the airplane a reasonable distance with reasonable fuel compensation to mechanic of my choosing. Any other expenses seller incurs in moving the airplane such as his time or if he hires a pilot etc. are seller's responsibility and the cost of doing business. All he gets is fuel expense. Seller allow's my mechanic to fix issues he recommends. Or I as buyer and at my discretion have the option to walk away and keep deposit minus fuel expenses. The seller has the burden to know what he is selling and not waste the buyer's time. The buyer's responsibility is to be serious that he is buying the airplane if checks out as evidenced by deposit in escrow.
  2. Although it appears to be a little too much drama he has his reasons. It is his airplane and he sets the rules. You either choose to abide or walk and look for another. When I bought my Mooney the seller offered to fly it to the MSC of my choosing for the inspection with the understanding that I'd pay for the fuel. I selected a reputable MSC not too far from him. Then when all was done we closed and he flew and personally delivered the airplane to me! We put it in the hangar and I gave him some private time with his airplane as I couldn't help noticing the emotions overwhelmed him a little bit. We had an early dinner and talked about the airplane and he gave me a lot of advice. Then I handed him his airline ticket and drove him to PHL for his flight home. Of course he had Dugosh maintain the airplane since birth. When I was performing my due diligence I spoke to Ronnie Kramer. He knew the airplane and the seller very well having maintained it for many years. He reassured me that the seller was one of the most meticulous owners with mx and would not postpone anything. Point being the seller knows the airplane he is selling, the mx history, and his habits. i.e. MSC maintained, has performed necessary mx or postponed it. In my opinion, and this is strictly my opinion, there are two elements in buying a Mooney. First try and find one through a reputable MSC that may be coming up for sale, and second find out what the maintenance habits and philosophy of the seller or sellers have been as far back as possible.
  3. Tell your...ummm... friend, yes! Shipping in September... http://www.bendixking.com/V4/KI-300
  4. I know what he means. What I was questioning is why does he "always" find himself behind the power curve? Not a good place to be. Especially down low if needs to go around. Adding power and lowering the nose can cause to slam into the ground! It would be better to maintain proper airspeed on the approach.
  5. Please elaborate because I don't understand! What do you mean you're always behind the power curve?
  6. This article does not give any insight on the methodology of the study. It merely concludes that CIC 's should be used according to manufacturer guidelines. It doesn't describe how the experiment was performed, which CIC's were used, etc. Nevertheless nowhere does it say Corrosion-X causes corrosion! On the contrary it says "...water displacing thin film CIC can offer substantial benefits in terms of preventing and/or retarding corrosion."
  7. Do you have an article professing that corrosion-X causes filiform corrosion? If so please post your source? I'd love to read it!

  9. Yeup!...another case of a weekend warrior lecturing a seasoned airline pilot who is a walking encyclopedia full of knowledge and who shares it selfishly! Instead of learning and saying thank you he lectures him! The internet never ceases to amaze me!
  10. The things I'd do are: WAAS if not already a 530W comply with ADS-B out, Install a KI300 and remove the KI256. This allows you to remove vacuum system and be all electric, move the engine monitor to one of the slots to the right of the altimeter so it's in your scan, Not necessary but may want to install an ipad mini in the right stack for Garmin Pilot, target trend and ads-b in, fly it! Minimally invasive tweaks with powerful results.
  11. You heard that too...right?! And with the new ap we keep existing servos and get a 2 year warranty on entire system!
  12. Seth, did you notice what the fd is doing when this happens? If the fd is commanding properly it may be a servo related issue. Also don't underestimate a gyro issue. The KI256 may be acting up. An easy action would be to swap gyros and see if it solves the problem. Before doing anything you may want to call Autopilot Central and speak with Alan or Steve, (918) 836-6418. They can steer you in the right direction and may even help you diagnose the issue. The KFC200 is an analog system and should be easy to troubleshoot.
  13. But in my case going this route I'd also need to replace a perfectly good autopilot. In other words G is asking me to remove a depreciating asset which is providing me free cash flow! When all I want is to address the vacuum dependence. They want me to buy more than I need when they could've easily given me what I want and I would gladly buy! Thanks but no thanks!
  14. The weak link is the vacuum system and the ADI. If either the pump or the ADI go south so does the autopilot. I don't consider the HSI a weak link. It is electric first of all, and secondly, even if it goes, the autopilot will still operate.
  15. Or...are they??! http://www.bendixking.com/V4/KI-300 What many panels need is a simple way to address and remove the weak link in the vacuum system. A simple replacement of the ADI. That's exactly what the KI300 does. Nothing more and nothing less. They don't force you to buy more than you need.
  16. That would be the classic example of false economy. An action which apparently saves money initially but, over a longer period of time, results in wasting more money than being saved! This is exactly the issue I have with the new stuff Garmin announced. It's great for some panels that may need an autopilot for example. Not so great for others because they force you to buy more than you may need. I have no reason to remove my autopilot at the present time. It works perfectly and I'm not inclined to take it out. If I need to revisit this decision in the future can I do so with the HDX? Can I, presently, choose to install only the pfd/mfd and remove my KI256 and vaccuum? Then add components in the future if the need arises? Does the HDX provide attitude reference to other autopilots and does it have this modular flexibility? That was my question. Does anyone have any news on the KI300?
  17. Now here's the 60K$ question: Does the Skyview HDX provide attitude reference to third part autopilots, i.e. KFC150? Can the pfd/mfd be installed by itself without the autopilot and transponder?
  18. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but for 18k installed this includes: pfd/mfd, syn vis, aoa, autopilot, ads-b in/out transponder, engine monitor, battery backup, and a EFIS-D10A for redundancy?! Did I miss anything? In Garmin language this is in excess of 45K for hardware alone. Installation additional! What's the catch?
  19. To what do you attribute the wing rock? Do you feel the altitude oveshooting is due to the GAD43E? I have no wing rock on mine. HDG, NAV and APR are rock solid. I occasionally do see a very slight altitude overshoot. Barely the width of the needle and certainly not 40 feet. It corrects quickly thereafter. I attribute this to how accurately I engage alt hold as I don't have preselect.
  20. Would you care to elaborate? What hasn't worked as you'd like? Is it the GAD43E, the G500 or both? I'm strongly considering it and curious to know.
  21. Assuming they announce it at Oshkosh, there'd be nothing else available that can simply replace the KI256 and facilitate the removal of the vacuum system. Garmin has shown they're not interested. Maybe a little high at 5K but not prohibitive. They want 25K for the KI256!
  22. This is an event scheduled and posted on the EAA Oshkosh website. Would they go to the trouble to do so if it wasn't true? What do you want me to tell you!
  23. Fake news! Check your sources... https://www.eaa.org/eaa/event/KI_300_Solid_State_Attitude_Ind?id=300A26A98D1E410DACA4364B00FB9863
