I really don't know what component couldn't be obtained or manufactured without the factory although they are quite busy about the business of building airplanes.

You being in the northwest makes it hard to be of any help personally but, if your tubes are good.........worst case scenario is ya need a wing and it isn't that big of a deal to,swap that out. Now ya gotta find one. Or, part the whole thing out and start over but do NOT think your flying days are over. I know right now today where u can get a 1965 C model for mid twenties has a low time engine and prop so if yo can sell your engine for low to mid teens and a couple grand for your prop. So that leave s your control surfaces and interior and flight instruments. If you part your plane out you can have enough to buy another bird and fly on. Do NOT give up! All airplanes are worth more as parts than as a flying aircraft. If this wasn't the case Wentworth, Texas Air Salvage and all the others wouldn't be in business today. My point? Do NOT give up, set back? Yes, but beaten? HELL NO! Talk to the salvage yards and folks in the know you can come out of this and fly on.

I see nothing for a 550 TCM

I agree with Jose.......get rid of the recip fwf http://youtu.be/aOcL6gUQO5A. Much more pleasant sound

Good thing air planes were invented in the early part of the previous century they'd of been illegal to invent nowadays! Lol

Someone told me this Mooney stuff is a disease........;-)

I was a home builder for a few years and several of the brainy builders worked on a sim model of our planes iirc it was this one.............X- Plane. X-Plane differentiates itself from other simulators by implementing an aerodynamic model called blade element theory.[2] Traditionally, flight simulators emulate the real-world performance of an aircraft by using predefined lookup tables to determine aerodynamic forces such as lift or drag, which vary with differing flight conditions. These simulators sufficiently simulate the flight characteristics of the aircraft, specifically those with known aerodynamic data, but are not useful in design work, and do not predict the performance of aircraft when the actual figures are not available. Blade element theory improves on this type of simulation by modeling the forces and moments on an aircraft, and individually evaluating the parts that constitute it. Blade-element theory and other computational aerodynamic models are often used to compute aerodynamic forces in real time or pre-compute aerodynamic forces of a new design for use in a simulator employing lookup tables. With blade element theory, a surface (e.g. wing) may be made up of many sections (1 to 4 is typical), and each section is further divided into as many as 10 separate subsections. After that, the lift and drag of each section is calculated, and the resulting effect is applied to the whole aircraft. When this process is applied to each component, the simulated aircraft will fly similar to its real-life counterpart. This approach allows users to design aircraft quickly and easily, as the simulator engine immediately illustrates how an aircraft with a given design might perform in the real world. X-Plane can model fairly complex aircraft designs, including helicopters, rockets, rotor craft, and tilt-rotor craft. Blade element theory has shortcomings, as it can sometimes be difficult to design an aircraft that performs precisely as would real-world aircraft.[citation needed] However, as the flight model is refined, the simulator can better resemble real-world performance, and aircraft quirks, and design flaws.

IMHO if a person gets a Mooney, then gets an instructor that isn't a Mooney experienced instructor .......that person is only asking for it! I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, ( 650+ hr pic) (250+ Mooney hrs) 75+ in an R and was thinking about this just yesterday. It's been windy for the last month or so here and for the last several months I have made some landings that I felt really good about, I was actually proud........until I got a little Mooney humble pie yesterday, winds were not really high but the were very inconsistent I came in just a tiny bit high so I went with full flaps. I didn't porpoise but it was FAR from those greasers I had been doing. I am going back today refocus on my approach and landings. Does everyone have an ugly one once in awhile?????

There will probably be commercial pilots from all over the world moving to China to be personal pilot for the rich Chinese. In the last 30 years there has sure been a transfer of wealth from this country to theirs.

I could swear I saw a picture of an "arrowplane" that resembled a porcupine.......atleast underneath.........was on here somewhere???.?.

A Bo guru I know used to have an old Yamaha DT 100 he had cut in two pieces. He had welded solid steel rods inside the frame tubes on one side so it could be easily disassembled and loaded into his v-tail and put together at the destination. I was wondering if anyone has done this for hauling in a Mooney. I could get by easily with a little scooter. Wife and I went to Hatteras and rented a little scooter for a week while there and It worked great, but if I could get one that could be broken down into pieces that would fit in the mooney it would be great!

Mooney just covered their derrière that's all. -
any of you ever thought about flying a helicopter?

It took 4 pages to get to the "frivolous lawsuits are destroying the world" post. I'm actually proud of the group for that, as a lawyer. Key word here is frivolous , we ought to remember that lawyers are human and like any other profession not every human in it has the best intentions, as with any industry there re those in it that are only interested in revenue. As for destroying the world, I would compare it to all the rivets on those other aircraft that slow them down, they're a drag man! Are they needed? Drill them out and try to fly the plane, is there a better way? We Mooney drivers know the answer to that. My frustrations are from seeing so much effort exhausted on protecting those in our society that blatantly do things that could cause harm to themselves and others knowing full well what they out come might be then when things go wrong they cry for a handout from others to support them for the rest of their lives. I could go on and on but really my point was companies are not like a person, companies are innocent until proven guilty. And that is why a lens for the beacon costs 298$ -
What she said! Look at the accidents in Mooneys and there are a VERY high percentage on the runway or in the vicinity thereof. Another thing I feel is important is the instrument rating why? Because a. Mooney is a traveling machine you will have to deal with more weather and weather patterns, so IFR is the only way to fully enjoy/utilize a Mooney, without it is like having a computer and no internet connection. Get the IFR ticket and remember the IFR license is really a license to learn.

I won't go into the whether or not this or that is airworthy, I'm not an IA an AP or an Engineer so that I'll leave alone. I can attest to this having been in the maintenance business of aerial lifts. In the last several decades frivolous law suits have been a huge burden to every industry in the country. Have been indirectly involved in litigation where an aerial device designed to lift a man and tools of a weight of 400 lbs or less was used to attempt to pull a pole from the ground. Of course this ended tragically but the litigation has been unbelievable, the plaintiff has already been awarded 7 figures and is after more, even though said plaintiff was the operator who misused/overloaded the device. This goes on everyday all over the country, and this is exactly why Mooney has made the statement they made, covered their arse is what they did. I know of an avionics shop that is in litigation because they worked on a plane which 15yrs after said work was completed there was an inflight fire which ended in a crash......15yrs.........and the insurance the shop has to pay has to cover the costs. It's our own faults we have our selves to blame for all these lawsuits. -

I had a short body with the OEM 201 cowl mod and I liked the way it looked, however, if I were going to go through the trouble and expense of getting a cowl mod I personally would opt for the Lowpresti. Just my preference

Anyone have a Pirep on the downwind restaurant at KPDK? They supposedly have live music on Friday night anybody been there?

Why couldn't a terrorist organization just buy a plane? Or better still why couldn't a terrorist organization just implant a person of unknown origin to blend into the American universities and help get him into politics, elected to a spot in the senate and then on to POTUS. They could really do some damage, especially if he was elected to a third term or declared some type of emergency and then martial law. Build up militias within the US, weaken the branches of the armed forces, buy up as many weapons and military equipment and ammo as possible for use on homeland, build civilian detainment camps...........nah they'd just steal a jet lol

WHOA !!!!!! Last flight I took I was all P*SSED off at my radio (Garmin430 WAAS) and I had just routed a charging cable to the Ipad Mini which is in a Airgismo, seems like the squelch button is pushed in but its not. I changed channels cause i thought maybe someone had a stuck mic but it followed me to another channel. So, its my charger? Will the charger for the 496 garmin do it as well???? Wow saved me a trip to the radio shop! Thats unbelieveable! I had just called and left a message this morning for an appointment. I did notice that after I flew awhile it got better about not breaking squelch, I'll bet it was because the charge level got high enough
