A friend of mine called last night to tell me he's selling his Mooney. I don't know much about it other than the panel is basic IFR with a GPS, total time aprox 4000hrs, with 1000 hrs on a factory new engine. It had a Recent anual and IFR cert done. He owns 2 other airplanes and doesn't use this much. If your interested PM me and I'll hook you up

Maybe you are all aware of this already but it caught me by suprise. I had a trip from Michigan to Knoxville Tenn. today and a freind of mine wanted to take his Garmin 696 along and compare it to my GMX200. I don't like portables because of all the cables, wires, and brackets ect... so I just watched as he clamped this thing on the yoke colume on the passenger side. It was running on it's own battery power. During my runnup I noticed a flash and a hiss sound. We talked about it but couldn't see anything. Then I smelled somthing hot. I shut off all power and taxied back to the hangar and shut down thinking I had a big problem. While he went to get another airplane for the trip I felt under the panel hopeing to find a loose wire. Instead I found a hot cigaret lighter. The clamp on his 696 was holding the lighter in, not letting it pop out. If we were flying it would have not been an issue because the yoke is pulled out away from the pannel, but on the ground we could have had a fire. Use caution when hooking these things up. We were just about to launch into 2 hours of solid IMC. We packed up his 696 and had a great flight down and back without it, in my Mooney of course.

jake, pm me, I have some info

Russ, speaking of user fees, what does that cost you per year? We have been worried and fighting that here in the states for some time so just curious what (how much) we are fighting about.

I spend a fair amount of time in Panama city (have a condo on the beach and I'm there now) and have found it easy to fly direct to Destin. I file IFR direct and no issues. Basicly follows coastline.

We all have our own bias opinion. J versa R . I have flown both. Systems are the same and Ive seen some nice complex radios and multi-function displays in J's as well as R's. Throttle, prop, mixture, gear switch, flaps, vacume system, electricle system, and fuel system, both the same, just more horses in the R. If you can afford the R, do it.

There is on my Ovation. Covers half the oil cooler for winter ops.

You are on the wrong side of the state. I built the airport and all the hangars here at Z98 (Zeeland Mich) and would be happy to help you out. In Mich. you have to do a bi-fold door if you are going to use the plane in the winter. A slider door is bound by frost as soon as the ground freezes. Also you can't build too big, inches to spare is no good. All the units I build are box units, no T's, people always want more space. I don't suggest being too cheap on your hanger.

I took mine off and it can be done for free. I challenge anyone to find it anywhere. I havn't been able to find it so I think it worked.

Yes, the slower you are the less effect they have. That's why they are approved in all phases of flight.

I've never seen this before. Did the airplane shutter with the brakes out? I always get a good vibration (shutter) when the speedbrakes are out so you know without looking what's happening, then it just starts down and slows down.

Hey John/ I must say on my Ovation the guage reads acruate. A little different on the ground compared to in flight but only 10ths. When I fill it I spill out the overflow on the bottom almost exactly where it says it will.

M20F alternator keeps going out - HELP!
randypugh replied to ahineman's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I'm not one to bad-mouth any bussiness but my shop says stay away from Kelly with everything. They have had no good products from there. They named fuel pump problems, alternator problems, waste gates and more. I know of an Aerostar with a fresh rebuilt fuel pump (maybe 20 hrs) fail and force him back to a single engine landing. He constantly reminds me of this since I am now only a single engine pilot. Might be somthing to all this talk about Kelly -
Thanks, you made me feel better. This airplane is just a toy for me. I have a condo in PFN but I live in Michigan (z98) I'm back and forth a lot and I do fly in all the weather in all seasons about 150hrs a year. I just purchased this airplane this past Oct. after flying cessna 310's for the last 20 yrs. I'm getting used to it with about 85hrs now. I wash it, wax it, hanger it, and I do have a canvas cabin cover that I use when in Fla. I hope it lasts me a long time.

You guys are making me nervous. I fly my mooney in the weather (rain) a lot, mabe hours at a time. Sits on a ramp for a day or two in the rain ocasionaly. Is this thing going to rust away on me? I do keep it in a hanger on a normal basis but I do use it a lot between Michigan and Florida. I wash it with a hose and bucket a lot to keep it clean. I've done this with every airplane I've had with no problems, are these Mooneys different?

The service manual spells out if it's a saftey of flight type of leak or not. It doesn't sound like yours is so you can fly it untill it gets worse. I have a leak coming through right at the speed brakes on the bottom -both sides- and I'm waiting to get in for a reseal. My shop is currently busy but should get in next month.

Airkraft, what do you mean by wach your gross weight? Can you fly out of Leadville at gross in the summer?

Here's a twist. I've been flying behind the King KLN94 in different airplanes and it works great. I found that a KLN94 and MX20 to work great and in the future you can build on the MFD as you can afford. (add trafic, weather ect...) It comes with terain and charts and was less to purchase than the 430/530 options I put the 200 in my Mooney. Check out my panel in the photo galleries under playinmechanics photos. In the mooney I have XM weather and chartview. Am going to add active traffic soon since I'm not impressed with TIS that I had before. I wouldn't be surprised if your 496 would play on the MX20, but I don't know for sure.

Any interest in lower Michigan? I am one of the owners of an airpark (z98) 8 miles from lake Michigan. All four seasons and located with plenty of things to see and do 20 minutes west of Grand Rapids. 3800' x 60' paved and lighted, 1 acre homesites, and full service FBO across the field. Privatly owned, public use, 11 lots left

The newer mooneys interior shapes make them wider than before. The armrests and side panels bow outward wich gained a little room

Just got my Aviation Consumer--The M20j is featured and explains these changes

Magnus, I'm no expert, however my ovation is the same way. So either I have the same problem or it's the way it's suposed to be. My POH does make mention that in iceing conditions to make sudden inputs on the elevator to brake ice off the elevator horn so I fiqured this was correct rigging. We'll see what others have to say.

Aaron, I have the wing gauges in my airplane but they don't register the same as the electric gauges. Did they discuss this with you when you ordered this option? Maybe I need mine adjusted

Roberto, Is the type S conversion just a cleen-up of the airframe? Also, doesn't it include a different prop? Shouldn't that all inprove? You might be pleasantly surprised. Please keep us posted
