  1. What would you replace it with? I'd keep it to listen to the ball game and give me a little flexibility. Get rid of it when it dies, but not before unless you are planning a panel overhaul. BTW, we have an NDB approach requirement to stay current in the C-17.
  2. I just ran the calculator. 100K value = 1500 annually. I need to move before I buy an airplane.
  3. Quote: Parker_Woodruff Why we have to pay to own stuff I don't know. Bringing the airplane to this county did not in any way affect the school system, the local community college, the water pipes, etc.
  4. I was wondering what you pay each year in property taxes/registration fees. This topic was touched briefly, but didn't quite answer my question. When I had my Cherokee, I paid property taxes based on where it was on 1 January. I didn't play any games and try to fly the airplane around. The county knew who was based at the airport and wanted its piece. Here is the question. How much do you pay each year? Is it based on the value of the airplane? Does it go up or down annually? Thanks.

Quote: SWI_Bob How about this one: I have come across wet compass's that were filled with whiskey, isopropyl rubbing alcohol, baby oil. Alcohol will remove the paint from the compass card." Wet compass's use to use kerosine, now they use a derivative of kerosine. I recall the compass was filled with acid free white kerosine, but it's been a while. I'm having some quote problems.
  6. I don't remember anything Buster. Some owners don't want things up there for fear of scratching the windshield. What about a container velcroed to the floor? I suppose the antenna is stuck.
  7. I as an AOPA member, I read their magazine and Plane and Pilot. These two are more in tune with what I consider General Aviation. I'm not sure what Flying is up to these days. Bizjets are cool, but I can't afford one and I'd like to know about things that I can fly and buy. One of these days I'll suscribe to Aviation Consumer. I currently suscribe to AW&ST, perhaps I should drop it for the AvCon.
  8. Yea, but you won't find a stau at FL075.
  9. I think that you are normal. I'm constantly going between a M20J/K and a V35. I like the fuel burn of the J/K but the load of the V35. I'm still gathering data and waiting for a little more stability in the economy before I pull the trigger. I guess I'll keep flying my ole' fatgirl (a term of great affection, she is a bit girthy). Ohh, how I covet the smell of 100LL, mmm...
  10. I turned the prop on my 180, but that was years ago. It's funny how some mechanics say to do it, while Lycoming says not to turn it.
  11. Buster, I'd want the ability to file /G and fly direct. I don't know about the F-16, but the C-17 is /G and we go direct as much as possible. I once got direct Anchorage, AK from over Atlanta, GA. The Arrow that I currently rent has an expired /G GPS and if I'm VMC to my destination I 'll get flight following and ask for Direct. I don't care as much about the GPS approaches, for now.
  12. Do any of you guys ever turn the prop a few times on an engine that has set or is cold before starting? The idea was to move a little oil around before starting.
  13. I keep browsing as well. This one is over your budget, but worth a look. http://www.greatscotsaircraft.com/201.htm
  14. Ditto Buster. Glad to be home this one and I wish the best to those that aren't.
  15. Does a 231 with intercooler and merlyn wastegate add up to a 252?
  16. I didn't view the video. UTube and other sites that allow idiots their 15 minutes of fame encourage more and more foolish behavior. Anyone dumb enough to video a potential violation should be visited by the proper authorties. This includes kids videoing fights, robberies or drag racing. What really burns me is the kids in southwest asia sending information on social networking sites. I had an malfunction with my aircraft a while back and my wife knew about it within 24 hours. Unsat.
  17. AOPA Directory is good. Aeroweather is a good free app as well. I was reading something the other day and it sent me to www.pdfplates.com. I looked at it on the PC and it has a mobile app as well.
  18. I think that it's a great idea. I was looking at something to put in my truck while it bakes in the SC heat. I don't want to roll my window down. There must be a way to mount a little fan using existing plumbing.
  19. I'd have to say your best person to answer this would be you local medical authority in the UK. Were you planning on getting your ratings in the US?
  20. What year did the glareshield get taller? I sat in a Ovation a while back and I remember an older 201 with a shorter glareshield.
  21. There is always a chance that you may have a tooth missing on the flywheel. Otherwise, I'd consider a starter overhaul.
  22. Parker, You may be talking about two different things. The Lycoming IO-390 is a factory engine that they are proposing an STC for the M20, C-177 and PA28Rs. It's a 200 hp replacement with a few more horses. The FWF is a mod that an aftermarket company has produced with mixed results. Some have had success, but others have not. PM Globemaster, he'll give you an earfull.
  23. What about the 2-bladed scimitar prop that's approved for the Arrow?
  24. George, There is an NPRM to convert our Military Instructor ratings to a CFI. If you get a chance to talk to the FSDO you may want to ask. I'm still flying the desk at PAM.
  25. Check out the '84 that just poped up on www.trade-a-plane.com
