  1. Thanks, Arron. There are many good engine, baffling, o-rings, hoses, and other reasons, besides hot starting, to keep your engine bay cool. Now that I have my identity back, I just was wondering why the group thinks of this product?
  2. Quote: FlyDave This IS Flydave. What is your MooneySpace username?
  3. Very nice plane.....you're gonna love her! Congrats.
  4. From what I've been told there are just over 100 on the MAPA list with a handful active, and almost 1,000 signed up to the Mooney list serve and many more active. I've been on the MAPA list since the beginning and the Mooney list serve for about ten years. It used to be called Mooney Junction, IIRC. Mooney Space is, of course, a much improved format.
  5. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could convince MAPA and the Mooney list serve to consolidate here. I know the suggestion has been made by several of us, but no joy....yet.
  6. I didn't think I needed TCAS, untill I flew with two friends, both of whom have the Zaon XRX. It works very well, and displays clearly on the Garmin 396/496. There is one in my near term future.
  7. We could have a most interesting discussion about the impossible-possible turn....back to home. I've had fun practicing it at altitude, with a safey pilot, many times. It's a VERY strong reaction to get back to the airport when things go south on take off. Don't even think about it under 1,000 ft AGL, unless you're very experienced and have pricticed it recently. YM will not V on this one, my friends.
  8. No, I'm not. Couldn't use the smilie with Quick Reply. I've yet to figure out either how to delet a post, or how to repost one that's been edited.
  9. Note that the inner ring is more difficult than the bigger, outer ring to replace, so some shops just ignore them.
  10. Is is pitch or power to control decent???????????????????
  11. http://floridaaeroclub.org/PerryNews Aspen Regional Sales Manager this Friday night at Tropical Acres, in Ft. Lauderdale, brought to you by the Florida Aero Club.
  12. About 400 foot skid on the runway, when pilot has a brain fart, and leaves the gear up. Even with hard braking on a runway, it could be three times that with the gear down. Off field, who knows.
  13. I agree Scott. I know more Mooney owners, first hand, who've had issues with bladders, than I know who've had issues with a reseal. My corcerns would be weight and installation quality. To each their own. The only fuel leak I've ever experienced personally, is the common one on top of the wing, just outside the passanger door, on the wing walk. The solution for that, which the factory finally went with, was G8 'Tinnerman' style washers. You may want to add them under the four screw heads when you have your plane painted.
  14. Jimmy Garrison, of All American Aircraft, in the April 2009 MAPA Log, states it's "subjective" to add $1K to $2K to the selling price for fuel bladders on pre 201 Mooneys.
  15. If it's not a road or other smooth surface, my gear is staying in the wheel wells. I've seen the result of one wheel ripping off, the wing tip hitting a parked truck as the plane was cartwheeling. It was ugly. Certainly don't want one wheel absorbing energy and most times, I want to stop as fast as possible. If I need to depend on my gear ripping off as it absorbs energy I have bigger issues than if the gear is tucked away, most of the time. Usually you'll do less damage with the gear up and tucked away, than with the gear down and mangled. It sure does depend, but that's my perspective.
  16. BTW, here's Hoover Dam, with some major construction now going on:
  17. Well, I've got no dog in this hunt. but one man's facts are usually another man's opinions. Like George, I get a chuckle, but when some pilots put forth their opinions, or individual experience, as fact, while patting themselves on the back for being so smart. I'v known several Mooney people who have had recurring problems with bladders, many have lost useful load, and some are trouble prone. No, I'n NOT getting into an argument on re-seals. It's just that the "I'm right" aviation dogma is a bit of a sore point for me. Sorry and YMMV. Glad you made a "smart" choice, George, and have had a good experience with them, but that doesn't make them the only best alternative.
  18. Bladders....yuck. To each-his-own, I suppose.
  19. Great to finally meet you, Aaron, and very glad you could make the fly-in. I always get a kick of of the locals asking where all the Mooneys came from. Since you, Scott and I will all have new paint jobs in a couple of months, possibly from three different shops, we have to do some before and after comparisons. For some reason I suspect your paint scheme will be the most complex. And what a beauty it will be. If you had attended Florida, that recent National Championship list would be a lot longer....but your paint colors would be less attractive, IMO.
  20. Great report! Two Mooney flights I've always wanted to make are the Canyon and Alaska. I've done the Hudson corridor several times before 9/11 and it was spectacular. After the accident yesterday, may be no more. Jim...ask your dad if he was a lead on a T-38 two ship (probably not), because I was #2 in an earlier life, and catching the walls of the Canyon in my peripheral vision was awe inspiring.
  21. Our next event is this Saturday, August 8, at Bartow (BOW) at the Airside Bar & Grill located on the airport in the terminal building. Please let us know ASAP if you are going to try to make it so we can give the restaurant some idea of how many to expect. Unlike last month Dave, Ruth and I plan to be there.
  22. Hey David....I'll be at MAPA, and I staying at the Inn. Call me crazy, but I love TX, was going to be flying over it the same week, and Boxstoberfest is being held in FRB on the 12th and 13th. Killing a couple of birds with the same flying stone. I hope to meet you there. The best MAPA I ever attending was held in Las Vegas, years ago!
  23. Anyone considering ordering one, please be careful. Little if anything down, and have a lawyer review the contract. Three months ago LoPresti had neither any stock, nor a manufacturer!
  24. You are gonna love that plane. Best of luck with her!
  25. I'm scheduled in about the same time. I didn't get the sense that Crider follows a hard, fixed schedule. With a wedding in Detroit, Labor Day, MAPA and Boxstoberfest in Fredricksburg coming up, I may try and slip it to mid September. I also want to visit the guy in Ormond Beach one more time. Do you want to continue pressing Crider for a twofer? The one aspect that concerns me is how Rodger can turn a Mooney around in 12 business days and still do a good job. Did I just read correctly that you were the first flight test engineer on the Columbia/Cessna 300/350/400 program? Do tell.....
