  2. Here is my latest Opinion Leaders column. While at Sun n Fun I was looking for a great story and at the morning press briefing I got it. What I love about Fly Like a Girl, it that it feel grass-roots and based on passion much as Boots on the Ground the Men & Women who made Mooney was for me. I hope you enjoy the read and consider supporting the project with a few bucks. We not only need more female pilots, but mechanics, FBO owners and airport managers too. https://blog.aopa.org/aopa/2017/04/14/fly-like-a-girl-inspiring-a-new-generation/

  11. My first trip to Sun n Fun was just spectacular. I was able to hang out at the Mooney Pavilion and get to see, first hand the buzz about the #CoolestMooneyEver, the Ultras. The back of the tent was the perfect spot to watch the airshows and was pretty much show central. It was thrilling to see the Blue Angels! The night airshow was stellar, as it is in OSH. The hangars had lots of exhibitors and was good to see old friends. I did a little photo shoot for Lift Aviation which makes a cool pilot shoe [look for a review soon]. The vibe was relaxed and very friendly. I will look forward to going back again next year. Here are a few photos for those who couldn't make it.
  12. I am looking forward to my 9th or 10th OSH in a row. I will be flying Maggie in the Mooney Caravan and excited to be parked with my Mooney Clan. I also play in the EAA Concert band. What a hoot. We practice our music individually for a few months, then rehearse together [35 plus people] twice then have a concert. Sooo much fun.
  13. Hey there Just wanted to start a thread about Mooney or MooneySpace events at SNF. Tuesday April 4th at noon is a Mooney International Press Briefing with snacks provided. Thursday April 6th at 8:30 is a VIP Breakfast at the Mooney Pavilion. I will the speaker at this breakfast. I will present on Pilot Plus One, Right Seat Ready and Boots on the Ground documentary I produced. Apparently tickets will be handed out at the Mooney Pavilion, so get one if you can. Does anyone want to meet up for a MooneySpace dinner on Thursday eve or Saturday? Apparently Mooney does not have further activities scheduled for Fri/Sat/Sun, but I will post any new details as I have them.
  14. Plus the Mooney is handmade in Kerville, TX, USA~!
  15. We just got a lovely endorsement from Rod Machado for Pilot Plus One... registrations are filling up quickly, so act now if you can come. Camarillo is our first stop.. April 28-29th. Register here for CMA: http://bit.ly/2m4QfnYPilotPlusOne
  16. Tom Bowen should be there today. Happy for the folks at the factory who worked so hard to make this happen.
  17. You are talking about Pia's airplane at CMA, just outside the Cafe. She is not on MooneySpace.
  18. At the Museum of Flight in Seattle WA, we offer an educational program called the Aviation Learning Center (ALC) where students become pilots for a day. It’s a 2 hour immersive program centering around a real general aviation plane. In our case we have a Cirrus. We offer the program for replication in other organizations and are currently building one for the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston but they are using a Mooney Acclaim. In order to modify our educational program for the Mooney it would be a huge help to get a chance to look at one up close and ask the owner questions. Mooney has been a great help but you can only take things so far over the phone or through email. We’re trying to find a local Mooney Acclaim owner in the greater Seattle area (we’re willing to travel a couple hours if that’s what it takes) who would be willing to ideally let take a quick look or at least get on the phone with us and maybe send a picture or two. If you’re interested here’s a 3 minute video about the program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZMwYqen61I&list=PL05BDN7vYdto6fDpYKPGsDziBkqHdOQvu&feature=share Can you help us out? Thanks! Rick. 19. A fun day today. I was able to take Teresa a copy of the new Flying Magazine featuring Pia Bergqvist Mooney Manny, and Artcraft Paint who painted him. Artcraft has painted over 60 Mooneys including two of mine. Congrats on a wonderful article 6-7 page article about this family-owned business! Located in Santa Maria, CA. Check out the current issue of the magazine for a comprehensive article on protecting your Mooney with a quality paint job. Both Maggie and Manny will be on display at AOPA Camarillo, CA coming up April 28-29th. Artcraft will have a booth there too.
  20. Welcome to our fun Mooney Family. I learned to fly in Oregon at 4S2 Hood River, and KDLS The Dalles. I used Advanced Aircraft Services in Troutdale for fuel tank re-seal. They are a Mooney Service Center and great folks: http://www.advancedaircraft.net/index.html
  21. I got to fly yesterday as well. I headed to Camarillo, CA which is the location for the first AOPA Regional Fly-In for an IFR training. Since I will be presenting Pilot Plus One there in late April I decided to load up the Mooney with some supplies which include my mannequins George and Robert [named by my son]. It was super fun to have these two in the airplane. Their lack of conversation and criticism was a welcome change of pace from having other men in the plane. [That's a JOKE people!]. I got a comment from the tower and several looks from the ramp guy and passers by. Sure felt lonely and spacious on the way home! The training was awesome [on passing the practical test] and the airplane performed without a hitch. 37 minute flight vs 2.75 hr drive. Woot. Everyone come see Maggie, George and Robert at the AOPA Regional Fly-In April 28-29th.
  22. I got to do something super fun today. Perfect beach weather, light winds, and I got to take someone flying for the very first time. I mean very first time. No jets or airplanes ever. We had such a blast. She is a natural pilot. Gabriel was in the back seat calling out traffic like a boss. Super awesome rock star WALK-IT-ON landing was a plus. Smiles for days. #MooneyZoom #MooneyGirls
  23. Welcome to the Mooney Family. I am sure that you will be very wise in choosing the right airplane. I believe you mentioned that you joined MAPA [www.mooneypilots.com] They have a good magazine and classified ads as well. Additionally please make sure that you have a thorough pre-buy inspection at a MOONEY SERVICE CENTER. There is one in Troutdale, OR and Albany, OR. The Johnson bar [manual gear] is a piece of cake once you get the muscle memory and speeds correct. All the best
  24. Yes yes it is. And having so many hours in my Mooney helps a lot too. Very stable platform. I have a basic panel but am adding a 430W which will be useful as well. Maybe see you two at Oceano Airport Celebration on May 12-13th!! Lots of fun.
  25. Well today was just under an hour in actual. In a way it was nice not to have that freaking hood on. We departed in the rain at Fullerton, flew to Corona to fly the hold a few times, then the approach and went missed. Then picked up an approach to Chino. It was pretty bumpy, windy and snotty, but the Mooney is such a stable airplane. Flew home from LA VFR, so fun to look out of the windows. It was 22 degrees at 8500 with a 35 kt headwind. One of the photos is the traffic on the 101 below me. Even though I was only going 119 kts sure beat the freeway. I did better with intercepting today. My approaches are getting more stabilized and not sword fighting so much. Things are starting to flow. Did 8 hours of instruction in the air and 2 plus hours of ground. Next weekend I will attend the IFR practical test prep class at Camarillo, CA. Getting closer!
