  1. When I was a kid in east Texas, a gate was a solid thing that swung. What Hank described we called a gap. We also had a lot of cattle guards. However they were not as secure as a gate or gap. I had a horse that could "walk" a cattle guard. They also had additional problems. I saw more than one cow killed after they walked into a cattle guard and broke a leg.
  2. Dave, Sure, since I make the parts, I can sell any of them. As I have posted before, I am not trying to make money with the things I turn out. I try to get the cost of materials and a little extra to keep me from feeling like I am wasting too much time having fun with aviation stuff. PM me with what you are interested in. Don
  3. I was right to in the sense that my ignorance was giving me false impressions. I should have known that anyone in the business would have thought of all these things before starting. Maybe my thought process was colored by the vision of a Mooney being sawed into pieces.
  4. With nothing but an abundance of ignorance on my part to work with, it seemed to me like a pretty wasteful exercise. Had the control tubes been removed, or were they cut. Was speed of removal such a factor that they destroyed a lot of salvageable parts. Or perhaps I just could not tell.
  5. I put both of you on the list.
  6. I am not particularly enamored with the row of photos at the top of the forum page. To me it is just extra stuff I have to scroll through to get to the forum list. When I want to check the photos, I can find what I need.
  7. I'm almost certain all the newer planes (at least all from J's forward, and probably long before that) have two per tank.
  8. Those with 2 senders are connected in series. So your fuel level for that tank is the average between the two senders.
  9. Strangely enough, there was a Dallas Ft. Worth turnpike that eventually reverted to a free road. This was back somewhere about the 60s.
  10. Yetti, What do you think is the percentage of people on MS have ever had to get out to open a gate (or a gap if you are from east Texas).
  11. Welcome to the 231 owners group
  12. I would jump Jose and tell him to provide you a free fix.
  13. I'm glad to know I'm not the only dinosaur. I still call for a weather briefing. But I do file on Fltplan.com
  14. Don't forget a sledge hammer, a vise and an anvil
  15. The folks on this forum, and their knowledge etc. never cease to amaze me.
  16. I sent you a PM
  17. I sent you a PM
  18. I'm anxious to see Hank's sketch. Neat idea of two shades.
  19. Your center tube attachment looks good. If you can find an attachment point behind the headliner, even better. Although if you only want and "up and down" visor, it would probably work OK. I don't really expect vibration to be a problem. Who cares if your visor wiggles. Not like a shaking instrument. Unfortunately. I think (don't know), that the tube behind the headliner is structural. If you don't worry about putting a hole in it, it will probably be fine. There are plenty of holes in the frame tubes elsewhere (eg. where tabs are installed to mount window plastic.) After all, the factory mounted their visors in/on that same tube. If I had a more or less horizontal rod going across the top of the windshield, I would probably try to mount an arm on that rod to mount the shade so it would swing over to the side. I find the ability to shade the side windows to be quite important. I recognize that double arm is pretty complex. I think you need a much bigger and more modern mill, so you can donate your existing one to me. Keep us posted as to your progress.
  20. Bite the bullet and spring for a 3 blade MT. You will remember the joy after you forget the pain of the cost.
  21. PTK, I have never seen (up close) any Rosens. I am also hampered by not having a milling machine. All these grand "make me rich" schemes I come up with, wind up with me giving things away or selling them at virtually cost of materials. I haven't conned my finance department (read spouse) into springing for a mini mill.
  22. I appreciate the comments and suggestions. The flexible arm and the ram mounts would both work, but both are bulky and not as aesthetically pleasing. I am certain I could rig a ram mount double ball joint at the attachment point on the plane. Would any of you prospective consumers tolerate that.
  23. Please disregard my original post. I have discovered that the double ball joints are just not up to the job, and I can find a source for any larger ones. Back to the drawing board. Sorry about that.
  24. Stacey, are you listening.
  25. It is really a shame how close he got to Whiteman. It looks like if he had started with another 50 feet of altitude, he would have made it.
