  1. Seems strange that BOTH static ports could become blocked. Good on ya for pulling the alt static when you did. You can always tell when something “doesnt feel right”.
  2. Why do you need a 430W? Your budget would allow for a nicer plane (mechanically) if you found one without a ton invested in avionics.
  3. I’m relatively new to the Mooney platform, is a properly latched cargo door at risk of opening itself in flight? To date, I haven’t locked mine for flight, just made sure the handle was flush.
  4. If you need a set of inner doors, I can put you in touch with a shop here that’s got a few sets. They’re from J models, but should be the same.
  5. Tabarnak! I am very glad you’re getting this fixed properly and that you didn’t have an engine failure!
  6. But do you buy it to have a spare on the shelf? Or do you have it installed and keep your original as a spare? What is the failure mode of this spring? Is this design any better / more durable? Is there something about the new spring that precludes the likelihood of failure compared to my stock one? Or is it the exact same design, and it should be more durable simply by the fact that it's got fewer cycles on it?
  7. My factory Whelen strobes flash three times between each break.
  8. What a prick! It’s one thing to know nothing about overhauling engines, but it’s another to pretend like you do and keep charging people for your ineptitude.
  9. So, what’s the solution? How do they expect to be able to keep the lights on if they can’t ever deliver an engine?
  10. Why not just hire a ferry pilot for the hour to get it done before the annual expires?
  11. I need some new ones myself!
  12. Thank you for the detailed information! I’m relatively new to the Mooney world, so looking to learn as much as I can.
  13. I read the service bulliten, how likely is this spring to break? Should I be buying one and having it installed as a precaution?
  14. As for the reason for the change to the thicker tube, I believe it was required on the 6 cylinder models to add increased support for the heavier engine. To speed up assembly through more parts commonality, Mooney decided to equip all frames with the thicker tubes, even the J model. Not sure how true that is, but it would make perfect sense.
  15. I just saw above the serial number range listed, which looks like it split in the 1990 model year. 24-3218 and up were the ones factory equipped with the 2900# GW. My bird is serial 24-3222 so about the 4th one with the new higher gross weight.
  16. You have a 1990 and it didn't come with the increased GW already? That's strange, I thought all MSE's had it from the factory? For reference, my 1991 is 2900lb max gross.
  17. I believe it has to do with the lighting setup. If you have the enclosed wingtips, the tailbeacon X will not work.
  18. That 201 windshield would probably fetch a pretty penny!
  19. Glad you got it sorted out!
  20. Glad you found the source. How much oil did you lose getting it to Toronto? Who was the last shop to have the governor off and not put the spacer back in?
  21. ‘91 MSE. Been having an issue lately with my dome lights. They will often be intermittent. I have two separate switches in the headliner, one for the rear seat and baggage area, and another for the front seats. There is power, I even replaced the fuse by the battery. On bright, about 2 of the 4 bulbs light up, on dim sometimes only one lights up. If I tap the covers that hide the lights, they will all spring to life. Getting really tired of having to do that though. Is it something as simple as a corroded socket or connection perhaps? Everything appears fine, but maybe it would be a good idea to hit all of the contact surfaces with a scotch brite or something? Has anyone else dealt with this? Thanks!
  22. Are those ski pole grips on the yokes? Neat idea.
  23. I got a very good rate with Air1 Insurance. Shoot them an email they are quick with putting together a quote for you.
  24. My '91 J has the tow limit indicator from the factory, along with the steering stops.
