  1. Except for a few authors, I have not be impressed by the quality of the writing and often questioned the journalistic integrity. I didn't see anything negative about Van's Aircraft... I can't help but think that it has to do with the advertising.
  2. Lower RPM have higher amplitudes.
  3. Guys... you're taking the bait. Should attorneys get involved to go after GAMI, I doubt that it would end up as a class action. Way too risky for GAMI. My bet is it would be a quick settlement. When GAMI gets a demand letter, they'll likely quickly settle over the risk of having to go through the discovery process. I doubt we'll see lawsuits over this unless someone wants to prove a point; it's too expensive for both side. I wish we had a way to know whether GAMI will pay the insurance companies for the damage to some of the airplanes. The 421 that was totaled seemed like someone that could end up in a lawsuit.
  4. I've never used it, but I've never been in a position where it's been recommended either.
  5. I believe in the J, the gear alert is continuous, just a different pitch. I'll have to test that at some point.
  6. That should be easy to test, there should be two of them right new to each other: one of the gear and one of the stall. You should be able to switch the wires.
  7. IIRC, he posted on Facebook that Brian Kendrick fixed it.
  8. What was the estimate you were given? Did they do work that was not approved? If so, other issues aside, I don't know that I'd let them remain in possession of the airplane for fear it may continue. You are not a blank check; I thought issues over scope of work were resolved after the first bill. I thought the whole point of Savvy was to manage things for you so that you didn't end up with unexpected bills or uneccessary work. What have they done for you? You're at $58k, add in the engine work and re-install you and going to be at $100k. Ouch!
  9. I think it's been on the market for almost a year; I thought it had sold. As much as it pains me to say, I think the value in this one is a part out.
  10. Thank you Skip. SB 208 will be logged since it is now done, I just need to get the logs to my IA. I had not thought about a quart of SEM paint but that makes the job so much easier when I already have all the spray equipment.
  11. Vantage or fix what you have. Is it still ABS plastic for a 1990 interior? IF so, ABS cement is magic to fix cracks... add some cloth and it's like working with epoxy except it's easier (and better since you're effectively welding the existing ABS). Jeager Interior also has a do it yourself guide with ton of great information. I was given a ton of good advice: https://mooneyspace.com/topic/51672-overhead-console-replacement/#comment-920451
  12. That 40 hours training goes a long way toward an instrument rating...
  13. What a great first airplane. Congratulations!
  14. Do you know what class the airports use and whether it's corrosive? That would be a big negative toward foam. I don't recall seeing small airplanes catch on fire on a controlled gear up. I'd think that even if the foam is slick, a lot a aerodynamic braking can be done to slow the airplane down. Keeping back pressure should also keep some weight off the airplane, hopefully further limiting damage. I just hope to never be in that situation; even if you do everything perfect, what a nightmare.
  15. Flying the 3 NTPS pattern is to verify IAS/CAS error. Even though my IAS should be accurate, and all indications are that it is, I do intend to run the pattern and verify it.
  16. I saw on Facebook where someone remade one for $70. I think they posted this morning. Vintage Mooney group maybe? He wrote how he did it and posted photos.
  17. Unless something is prohibited, we are allowed to do it.
  18. I'm not going to give tail numbers or other details but I can tell you those numbers are realistic. A nice airplane with an updated panel with G3X, GTN, GFC... put the airplane a whole different category and they don't tend to sit for long. For a lot of people, the utility of a E is the same as the one of a J because they're using it as a two airplane and bags, or a backup airplane + training/currency.
  19. I read that one of the blades touched on landing.
  20. Next thing we'll know and we'll have a bunch a new user that you can't get rid of: tennis players.
  21. Good work on the spam. I've seen other forums have a new member subsection. It's a place for people to introduce themselves and it lends itself to be a place to share rules, donation posts, etc.
  22. I do believe that's who I remember, the name is familiar, although in my memory the strips shorter and bumpier. Rumor has it that the only reason he was able to get out of some of those places are the wheel covers.
  23. I don't have the bush kit either and since my bearings get repacked every year, I'm not sure how useful they are. I have noticed some damage on the flaps though that I could have avoided with mudflaps or fenders. Back in the early days of the AOPA board, there use to be someone that took his Mooney on back country strips, places I wouldn't consider even in a 182.
  24. Don't they help keep even more stuff out of the wheel bearing than the felts do?
  25. My IA indicated that we'd have to look into the fine details to determine whether it is a minor mod or not which stopped me from buying it during the S&F special. I ended replacing the existing strobe light. Mine has 3 and the ones for the tips are in the last inspection panel if I remember right. The packs are much lighter than I expected.
