  1. That makes sense; getting new certificates would be a pain. With this arrangement, it's unlikely VC is going to be able to step in as Mooney could replace LASAR with someone else at the end of the contract.
  2. Their as in Mooney or LASAR? I'd imagine Mooney otherwise it's going to take a while.
  3. On the upside, the odds that you correctly diagnosed it root cause are very high and it looks like the right eyes are going to look at your parts. How is the IRAN going at Western Skyway?
  4. I thought I heard in the past week that LASAR was going to lease some ground in Kerrville...
  5. An inexperience fiberglass guy (me) has been working magic. My plan was to see if I can fix them myself, if not, I was going to order from Vantage. It's actually coming out nice, but there is a learning curve.
  6. That's a great tip on the paper towel tube; masking it was going to be a PAIN! Mine are glued on with PVC cement and not all have rivets holding things in place... If a spring is supposed to be felt or seen, the spring is likely missing. I put the texture over the center repair this morning and it's going to be painted tonight now that I don't have to go to a supply store to get pin stripe tape to a good fit over the wemac.
  7. Both prevent tear out, it's all in how it looks. Edging is a small band on fabric on the side while edging is thread looped on the side. I tried to insert the photo into the post but failed but here is a link: http://www.floorsofstlouis.com/blog/get-an-edge-on-carpet-how-to-choose-the-perfect-edge-for-your-new-rug
  8. @PT20J was right on the colors. None of the colors were right for what I wanted so I had a custom color made up. I put this project aside for a few weeks as I couldn't wear a respirator while my nose was healing post surgery. Structural repair to the overhead console is done and I've started to paint some parts. It's nice to see some progress but I wonder if I went too light on the color. We'll see when the whole interior is back in. Worst case, it will all come back out and get repainted. My interior had more damage than I realized but it's all fixable, it just takes time. How is the wemac assembly removed? The wemac seat is glued to the backside of the overhead console and I'm afraid that if I cut through it, I'll end up doing damage on the finish side of the overhead console. I'd like to avoid doing that but they need to come out so that I can paint the area properly. The upholsterer is working his magic on the seats, I expect to have them back this week. I need to order the carpet; I got the burn certificate for it today. The hardest part is finding someone locally to serge the carpet as it seems everyone does binding instead.
  9. The tolerance on this is not that important, as long as it fits and is strong enough. I'd drill the other side for a pin. Maybe I'm overly protective of the gear but I don't like vehicles as a tug. I'd think I'd want to front mount on the golf cart so that I can easily keep my eyes on things and moved slowly.
  10. There is a bunch of other companies that offered registered agents services. It's just a question paying the new company and updating the info with the state. If I ever plan a stretch of 6+ month outside of FL, I'll re-register the airplane in FL or in my name; I just don't want to pay the tax if I don't have to but it's annoying to have to deal with it.
  11. The GI275 can control the GCF500.
  12. There is an altitude where you can't turn back, one where my level of skill won't allow me to turn back but the airplane could make it, and one where I can turn back and land. Knowing those is useful. Even if the maneuver turns out poorly, and one ends up into the fence trying to make the airport, that may be a better outcome than crashing elsewhere. At least, you decrease the odds of putting others are risk and search and rescue should be able to get to you more easily. My take is use the information at which to turn back to brief what you'll do prior to takeoff. That's the point of this exercise and I see very few people briefing takeoffs. You want to know where turning back is an option but the reality is that most of the time we have better options, I tend to favor crosswind runways.
  13. Unrelated for jury/appeal purposes is not always unrelated in the real world. Why watch the defendant load up the airplane instead of serving the warrant immediately... I suspect that law enforcement intentionally waited for the airplane to be loaded up. My take is that there is a LOT more to that story; it seems like a lot of effort for a misdemeanor.
  14. I read the court's opinion. Whether he smuggled it or not doesn't matter, the attempt the the same as completing the crime.
  15. That's a great setup. I'd much rather go to a small shop where I know who is working on my airplane. Top Gun has such a great reputation, I always assumed they were a big operation.
  16. Mine has a speaker, and two sonalert (gear and stall). The front is hard wired and the plug for the rear lights.
  17. I've never seen something impounded over a misdemeanor. Most forfeitures I've seen in Florida have been for drug trafficking or RICO.
  18. I'm confused. The overhead console photographed there is the "headliner". The gear horn, stall, etc. will need to be wired up correctly and that may not be the same in all airplane. They are simple sonalert speakers. The wires in mine are not market and all the same color so an AP will have to test and wire appropriately. The part manual will give you what other parts you need and has diagrams.
  19. For all RV, Vne is based on true airspeed (TAS) based. It's a lot easier to display now that EFIS are so popular. I suspect that for most airframes, Vne was based on a TAS but backed down to an indicated speed to make it easier for pilots. Van's had to write articles in the RVator, the newsletters that used to be source of information for builder/pilots to let people know Vne is a TAS limitation. Even once online forums became available, like Van's Air Force, it still shocked many 15-20 years ago that Vne was based on TAS. I suspect a great number of pilot did not understand that limitation and just used the Vne on the airspeed indicator (that you could purchase through Van).
  20. I posted some photos there. https://mooneyspace.com/topic/51672-overhead-console-replacement/#comment-920451 My headliner is out but I'm happy to take more photos if it helps.
  21. One key takeaway for me is a Vy climb an altitude that makes the turn a possibility; I've been transitioning to a cruise climb prior to that. I'm very impressed by her flying skills and she makes great video. It's really nice to have see/get data from a Mooney. King used a J model to demonstrate the power off 180.
  22. Very cool. I have never been there. Tickets may not be as coveted as they used to be, I read that they struggled to sell out this year. My understanding if you land there, make sure you throughly was the airplane once home. The dirt is corrosive.
  23. I like having my maintenance done at home; you know when you start a project, not always when you finish it due to what may be uncovered.
  24. The argument that wet wings are "bad" is not one we should fall for. Wet wings are used in other airframes and, to me, are the best choice. Nothing last forever, I've see metal tanks and fuel cells fail -- at some point everything fails due to age. When Mr. Braly states that there is an inherent design flaw in our wet tank, what I'm hearing is that our airplanes should never have been certificated with wet wings. He's just wrong. G100UL and proseal or its equivalents just don't happen to play well together, which means G100UL is not a drop in fuel. Composites don't seem to do well either, there was a photo of an SR22 that looked like it was eaten by the fuel.
