  1. Also leading up to the appointment, they were response on the phone and called back when they said they would and were prompt on the quotes.
  2. Agreed. Was just saying. Out of 13 hours, that was the only time at cruise that I talked to approach.
  3. I did have to talk to approach near Valdosta. Moody AFB is in the area with a lot of military flight training. The MOAs go to 18,000. So Approach has the airspace a bit higher there.
  4. True. In the early days of using GPS for surveying, they would place it and let it run for hours. And then average the reported location to find the actual location. And the height above ground was controlled to remove that variable.
  5. I agree. But I am hoping to go to a GFC-500 before more bulbs burn out.
  6. The 650 - 650Xi is listed on their site with the price. I placed my deposit in August and it was just under 3.5 AMU for the swap. Do NOT plan a hard IFR flight right after the swap, there are a lot of differences. It does the same stuff, but things work differently. One major thing is the 650 the Home page scrolls up and down. The Xi scrolls left/right. And the Xi knobs default to changing pages, you have to push to use them to set a frequency. BTW, if you haven't gotten one, the Flight Stream 510 is also SWEET. I left the place overnight. I showed up about 10:30 and the Xi swap and 510 "install" was done. And most of the paperwork. Even with the autopilot work, I was out of there around 2 - 2:30.
  7. I think he wants to see what it looks like at each callout in your plane, landing the way you teach.
  8. Alpha AOA is on my wish list.
  9. AGREED. I have an Aspen 1000 that has the AOA upgrade (bought it that way). I have NO idea what the AOA thing is saying, as I don't want to do that heads down. AOA needs to be above the glare shield to be really useful, IMO.
  10. I got a quote from them for 22 AMU. I just saw a plane with one of their interiors. Looked AMAZING.
  11. I would just weigh the seat, and subtract that from the Pilot weight. Not sure if that would be legal.
  12. I was just at Sarasota Avionics at their Sarasota location. Great service, nice people. I went to have my GTN650 upgraded to a GTN650Xi. They did this for the difference in price/value, so I did not have to float the 13 AMU cost of a new 650Xi and then have to try to sell the 650. I arrived on Thursday evening. They put the plane in their hangar overnight to work on first thing in the morning They quoted 3 hours, but were done in 1.5. They even contacted Garmin to switch the unit info for my data subscription to the new 650Xi. When I arrived, I asked about a couple of small squawks with my KAP-150/KAS-297B autopilot. The light for the ALT function had burned out, and the KAS-297B was permanently in Dim mode. I had been quoted about 1 AMU for the ALT light and 0.4 AMU for the KAS photocell. Plus remove, ship, ship back reinstall. Sarasota did the work for just over 0.5 AMU, including the remove and reinstall. And did it same day (quote for other shop was for 7 - 10 days). Larry at that location worked for King in the 70s and 80s. As for the personal service, one of the guys gave me a ride to my hotel (not that far). And the next day, they lent me a car to go grab some lunch. The other fun thing was, there were 3 other Mooneys in for work. All Js.
  13. Yeap. And almost no traffic in the teens. Most little guys are below 10K. And the bigger and faster guys are above FL200. In 13 hours of flying, in the cruise portion I had traffic called out twice.
  14. Yes, because you are referencing to the ground. Look at it this way, put two GPSes on the ground a foot apart and record the position reported at the same time on each. Yes, you will see two circles of dots, but any two dots recorded at the same time will show 1 foot apart.
  15. The last three days I spent a lot of hours at 15,000 and 16,000. IAS around 134. TAS - 173.
  16. Because the error is in the position in relationship to the ground. If you had two tractors, they could plow in formation using GPS, but both with not be precise to the actual ground.
  17. Yes, more to intake, but less intakes per time. Less intakes means less bangs. And aircraft systems, longer intake cycle means longer fuel delivery, but it is truly linear and matched?
  18. I just had a 200-C installed. AMAZING device.
  19. Hmm, one of those might work to get my Dad in my Mooney. But I afraid that he won't be able to get back out.
  20. And even then, dropping a dumb item is almost more art. But it is GREAT fun. Even better if they go BOOM.
  21. Then write a schedule that handles those two and many other in between circumstances, and gets the job done properly
  22. Who did the PPi?
  23. You didn’t take into account the drag of the pumpkin. From the time you release it, it is decelerating.
  24. No, my question was because he showed a picture of an oil filter with the threads down and said he pre-filled it. On my airplane each, fill it with oil, screw in on
  25. Thanks. I just returned the sensor. I will revisit this later and see if it will work.
