  1. Interesting thing. In 1996 I went to Ukraine to fly some Soviet jets. They are also flush riveted in the forward 1/2 to 2/3, then transition to standard rivets. Even the supersonic Mig-29
  2. FedEx Ground drivers don't work for FedEx, they are contractors. But I also try to avoid them. They tend to put packages at my detached garage, leaning against the garage door versus walking 20 - 30 feet and putting them on the covered porch like most other delivery drivers.
  3. You have to run high cylinder pressures to seat the rings. 65 - 75% power until they seat. And I would run closer to 75%. Both Lycoming and Continental break in instructions say this. If you run low power settings, you run the risk of glazing the cylinders. If this happens, you have to remove all of them and rehone them. We had to do this with a CAP 182.
  4. The Imogen 5 is good for 2 people up to 18,000. There is a good thread on BT in the Beech Singles section. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=215076&p=3200920&hilit=imogen#p3200920 Here is a site that will sell to you if you furnish a copy of your pilot certificate, no prescription needed. Also $1000 off with free FedEx shipping. https://mainclinicsupply.com/products/inogen-one-g5-2020-model-rated-1-in-portable-high-flow-oxygen-1-6-only-4-7-pounds-free-fedex-next-day-delivery-dont-miss-this-sale
  5. There is no such thing as aviators breathing oxygen these days. ALL O2 comes from boiling liquid oxygen. It is nothing but oxygen. Hospitals get theirs from the same supplier that supplies the local welding shop and so does your FBO. If you look at the fill price, you are pretty much paying for an hour of A&P time and the O2 is almost free.
  6. But how is this different for a pilot with a 3rd class or higher medical versus BasicMed????????
  7. What exactly is part of the 3rd class, or even 2nd or 1st class exams that has anything to do with flying at 18000 feet?????????? How about ABSOLUTELY nothing.
  8. My thought also. It may be a very quick and easy fix, from the outside. I had one screw leaking. Shop did not even charge for that (they were doing other things also).
  9. Do you have the hotel info? Will there be a significant discount to book through the Summit? Or just book directly?
  10. Also thanks. So with a G3X and a G-5 (or GI-275), you have redundant sources of attitude.
  11. Personally I would get the airplane that will last me for a long time, and just accept that you will be flying longer distances. But nothing like a 300 mile quick flight for a burger.
  12. All we can do it try to get the altitude increased. Contact your representatives, especially your Senator to support an altitude increase.
  13. My planned panel will have G3X primary with G-5 backup. As I understand it, if the G3X fails, the autopilot stops flying until you push a button, but it then uses the G-5 without any manual switch.
  14. Buy your last plane first. Look at longer term, and what you want to do with the plane. As for fling 80 - 100 hours a month, that is a LOT of flying. At those numbers, you will want a good autopilot. I agree with the slower plane for building time. I just did Denver to Maryland non-stop in my 252. And it only took 7 hours.
  15. I am having the oil changed this week. The last sample results are not back yet. I just live with it.
  16. I saw some info that the 2024 FAA Reauthorization Act may include changes to BasicMed, loosening the restrictions. Supposedly 1) Increases passengers allowed to 6 2) Increases seats allowed to 7 3) Increases max certificated takeoff weight to increase to 12,500 pounds. 4) Would require FAA to help work on getting it accepted in other countries 5) Allow DPEs to do administer tests or proficiency tests with Basic Med If this is true, I suggest two things. 1) Contact your Congress members (Senate and House) to support this. AND, add on my change, allow Basic Med up to at least FL250. To contact your Congressional reps, go to - https://www.congress.gov/ This website will give you the info on your representatives by your address. For each one, there is a Contact link, which takes you to their website, where you can enter your info and your request. This is what I sent to my representatives: I understand that the 2024 FAA Reauthorization Act contains some changes in the limitations when acting as a pilot under the Basic Med provisions. I would like to request that you support these changes. The FAA recently published a study that shows no difference in the mishap rate for people on Basic Med versus the traditional medical certification. I would also like you to introduce and support one other change to the limitations for Basic Med and that is to increase the allowable maximum operating altitude from the present 18,000 feet to a minimum of Flight Level 250 (25,000 feet). Flight Level 280 would be even better. I do want to applaud Congress for mandating the Basic Med program and making that happen. It makes sense to deal with my primary care physician, who knows me well versus a doctor who sees me for 30 minutes every two years. Thank you.
  17. Just to throw out another thought. 2x G-5s. I like the G-5 display. My brain does not like curved tape instruments. And then to a GTN-650. Maybe think about a used 650 versus a new Xi. But LOTS of capability in the box, and the basis for a higher end panel down the road.
  18. Don't you have a back up instrument with AHARS?
  19. I see the same thing in cruise. 10 feet off altitude needs to be fixed. But you have to look at the number and interpret it, with the needle should be pointed up or down in cruise.
  20. If it not listed in the contract, then the buyer cannot back out without penalty. "successful completion" needs to be defined. You can successfully complete an inspection with many findings, some of them that could total the aircraft. Language should be more on order of stating that airworthiness findings will be corrected by the seller or are grounds to terminate the sale.
  21. Eaton screwed up the order of making them. They heat treated them before bending the ends.
