  1. “I’m not sure why that is set that way sir. That’s the way it came out of the shop. Is that not allowed?”
  2. Hang in there Sue. I have no specific grand suggestions for you except maybe try to finish up some of those projects that need to be done because when you do get it back, there’s no way anything will get done.
  3. I think it’s a pretty nice piece of kit, to have that constant aural alarm. If more people knew this can be done on the certificated G3X, Garmin would be selling a whole lot more EIS setups. I only stumbled onto this because I’m looking at the LHS.
  4. Just out of curiosity, do you know if the G1000 Ovations have these features enabled?
  5. And a few more that would useful.
  6. I’ve got many thoughts on why this one feature should be lobbied for by the insurance industry but in my specific situation, without EIS, it’s a moot point.
  7. I’ve got a call into Palmetto to dig further into his information of it being a small deviation which isn’t a problem for his FAA inspector.
  8. That is one of the driving factors. The 650/750 have been discontinued but who knows how long Garmin will source parts for them. The Xi units came out 3 years ago and probably have a 20 year lifespan, to approximately 2040. They’ll probably be the latest and greatest for another 7 years or so until the next versions are released. The unit I’m looking to replace is three years old with 230 flight hours since installed 12/2019, only one month before the Xi was released in January of 2020. I may just look to buy an Xi outright and sell the non-Xi myself.
  9. The rotors are fixed, but the stators are variable and that changes the AOA on the downstream rotors.
  10. Screws are too hard to grasp with pliers so the best approach is to weld a nut onto the head of the screw so the pliers grip better.
  11. It looks like someone else picked up on this as well. I think having the CHECK GEAR alert coming from the G3X is a better option because it comes on much earlier in the approach than the LHS callout at 200’, just in time for a go-around. I like his response and will be digging into these other “non-essential safety enhancing features” that can be enabled on the G3X. Chuck
  12. MooneySpace is an interesting animal. On one thread we can be discussing how difficult it is to land one of these mythical planes and how new pilots need to find an instructor with 1,000 hours of Mooney time to prevent dying (exaggeration noted) and then just below that, there is a two page thread on how pour oil into the engine.
  13. At 14:15 in this video on the LHS system, the G3X displays CHECK GEAR accompanied by a consistent “woop woop” aural alert. LHS in a Mooney I did some Google searching and found a post on BT that said the CHECK GEAR alert is only for the Experimental unit. Can anyone confirm or deny whether the GEAR ALERT is available on the certificated model? Chuck
  14. Yes. You can find it on their website.
  15. Smart glide is the only functional difference I know of but the display has higher resolution (600x708 424,800 pixels vs 834x986 822,324 pixels). The faster processing makes all of the screen tasks like panning, zooming and repaints smoother and faster.
  16. RYY is $750/mo for community hangar and $140/mo for ramp tie down as of last week through Hawthorne.
  17. Just wondering if historically they’ve done show specials.
  18. NW of Atlanta is sparse too. I’m on everyone’s list and have paid some deposits too. Nothing moving over here. Some airports admit to lots of subletting, so door knocking, if permissible may get faster results.
  19. Sure will. Bag and rag solves that too.
  20. A trip down the motor oil aisle in any auto parts store will give you several options.
  21. Sarasota Avionics has FB ads all over the place for upgrading a GTN-750 to a GTN-750Xi for $6,089. Deadline for deposits is this Tuesday with work to be scheduled by 3/31. Does anyone know if SA sets up at S-n-F and gives show specials that would beat their FB promo? I last attended back in the late eighties and I’m sure it’s a whole lot bigger than it was 35 years ago.
  22. You could them in a Google Drive folder and post the link.
