  1. I would agree if the person not wearing the mask, owned the entire risk and it could only impact them....this risk potential impacts others. Essentially by not wearing a mask, they are forcing others to accept the risk of covid without asking. I'd revise the wording to say, "Wear a mask if you feel like others may want you to" and who wouldnt? This illustrates the point.
  2. Well, in a large local hospital, there have been no staff contraction of the virus...They have a strict wear protocol. The data seems to strongly support mask wearing. Curious...do you wear a seat belt or a helmet?
  3. Totally dont get it...We'd not be here if people donned a mask as soon as we knew to do that.
  4. Point well taken.
  5. Wasnt this the one for 171k? Was this the final price? Just trying to collect data...
  6. The little one is going on 6 and for the foreseeable future will be sitting in a aircraft quality car seat. She faced forward far too early for us but it was a choice between a shrieking toddler for 45 minute commute (she hated facing backward), or somewhat of a blissful journey. I like the strap linked above. I dont have a comparison of risk of injury in aircraft versus a car put believe the airplane to be much much lower risk. We dont spend "hours" a week flying but do so (or used to pre-covid) in our car so exposure is way higher in car.
  7. I notice there are quite of bit of stale listings. One guy I called started he sold a plane 4 years ago! Amazing.
  8. Whats the deal with this one: https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/195764623/1998-mooney-m20r-ovation-piston-single-aircraft Let's kick the tires and discuss!
  9. It’s a bit too high. No it’s actually way too high. I am also house hunting!
  10. Haha...various birds have told me the 252 flies well overweight as well!
  11. Interesting comment...what capacities were installed on which? Anyone know? 25,000 BTU's is enough to cool 1000 square feet!! Thank you.
  12. For those I'm thinking about. I cannot find anything so am having to flex on requirements. Hey, find me a good plane and I'll follow you around like a lap dog!
  13. Does anyone have any opinions on whether AC removal to gain 80 or so lbs would be worth it on an Ovation? I need the weigh capacity and I'm seeing a few of with AC which in the older ones isnt too useful given the AD on the operation anyway. I'd like to reclaim the weight but it could be sacrilege to remove it. Thoughts? Freddy
  14. @MarkD34M, your comments provoked further reading...from what I gather, the GI275 supports analog input from legacy Nav/Com and G5 will not. It also can do GPSS emulation which is needed for those that want to drive stec-50 which is n/a for Ovation. Its slowly sinking in till I change my mind on the brand/components! @MarkD34M, ack on the Dynan portable for AI backup. Thank you for the info. I may ping you when I pull the trigger. Freddy
  15. Inventory appears to be drying up. My target plane is in escrow (someone elses! doah!)…maybe it will fall out but I do not expect it to. So, it is looking like I am going to have to consider planes with original panel and do an upgrade after the purchase. I am targeting Ovations but will consider a good Bravo. I was hoping to get input from you. Here is what I have so far: Typical Original Ovation equipment (or possible Bravo) from the 90’s: KX155 KX165 KN64 DME ADSB of some sort Various Factory Round Gauges KCS-55A HSI EDM700 KFC150 Auto Pilot EDM700 KLN89 GPS Turn Coordinator KMA-24 Audio Panel WX-950 Stormscope Requirements(have settled on Garmin): Do precision GPS approaches Display synthetic vision on a device (more than likely a portable at this point) for situational awareness Integrate KFC150 such that it will fly the approaches Integrate flight director (preserve current functioning of flight director on King Horizon Indicator) Have a backup attitude indicator Have ability to quickly plan IFR flights w/o twisting a bunch of knobs (probably iPad) Minimal down time: no complicated panel work Biggest Bang for the buck: Remove KX155 and replace with GTN650txi or 750txi Trade the ADSB transponder unit if not already a GTX345 (want AHRS output) or add GDL39 *Remove King Horizon Indicator and replace with G5 Remove KN64 DME Add a 2nd G5 for backup Horizon Remove the KLN89 GPS which is covered by GTN650/750 Remove KCS-55A HSI and replace with G5 HSI *Remove KMA-24 and replace with PS PMA8000BT audio panel Keep the WX-950 although not sure I can show data anywhere else or whether I truly need this (please comment) Keep the EDM700 (again, comments welcome) Keep turn coordinator (I think this drives the autopilot...can anything else drive autopilot?) *optional Dream list: (Garmin 3x or G500) Probably won’t happen right now because we’d like to fly/train asap after purchase plus have plenty of budget for training/flying. But, what would you do in above plan to not needlessly spend money to achieve 3x or G500 down the road? The only thing that comes to mind is that I would have acquired possibly 2 G5’s and will only need 1 and perhaps have redundant AHRS output via 3x/G500? Anyone see any flaws in logic or equipment gaps that need to be filled? Example: am I missing an interface for KFC150 or do I need something more to display SVT (I dont think I will get Synthetic Vision on anything but on iPad for now until I spring for new panels)? Thank you. Anyone want to sell their Ovation Freddy
  16. Yeah...Don is going to teach me how to get in/out of S. Tahoe safely!
  17. Yeah...Don is going to teach me how to get in/out of S. Tahoe safely!
  18. Very good information! Thanks everyone! How tough is it to get in and out of S. Lake Tahoe? Comparable to TRK? Freddy
  19. Hello Everyone, My planned use is to fly out of SJC and into PSP (probably all year long if I can and likely 15-20 trips a year). Other plans include PSP to SDL and probably SDL to AEG (Southern California to Scottsdale to Albuquerque). Scheduling could be fairly flexible so I dont "have to have" FIKI. The AZ and NM trip would probably would happen 3-5 times a year tops. We'd possibly try out Tahoe and a host of other nice places! The plan is 2 or 3 adults and 2-3 hour legs tops. We'd use O2 when it made sense and especially over mountains. I do know that I have to avoid AC and FIKI together due to useful load needs. My purchase goal would be to find something ready to go with decent and newer avionics (certainly WAAS, redundant AI, etc). I've honed down my list and now am focused on Ovations and Bravos. The Bravo is a slam dunk for high elevation airports and general climb perf but the cost of a near term overhaul scares me and I have not found anything that is >600-700 hours away. The Ovation while not having an inexpensive power plant but it is considerably less than a Bravo does the mission and is probably 80% capable to the Bravos 90% for my needs. Given this info, how useful do you guys thinks that FIKI capability would be? In the winter, bay area marine layer seems to be a frequent occurrence. I would never want to be in IMC for more than 15-20 minutes on either end. Even with the capability of FIKI, I think I'd stay down if thought there was risk of ice. I wonder how often ice is encountered when it was not expected in weather reports? I've done research of experiences and it does not seem like I should not avoid FIKI so long as it is proven to be in good operation and then normally exercising it to keep it in good shape. I'm trying to buy something that would allow for growth down the road and support higher skills/missions etc. There is not a huge premium for FIKI equipped Mooneys and not unwilling to pay for this (will certainly not add it later though) as it seems like there is higher demand at some point when I'd like to sell which could be in 10-15 years. I'm conservative in my approach to most things but it does make sense to get everything I can right now. My trend has always been to buy optioned out cars but is this the same concept? I do know that I dont think I'll have the appetite for another search down the road so I need to obtain a capable platform now which will serve future needs for years to come. Thank you. Thoughts? Freddy
  20. Yeah...I have to go with one or the other (AC or FIKI) due to the weight limitations of having both. The very lowest I can go with is around 910lbs useful. I didnt comb through the logs and also noticed the 100k right around the corner which I wont be able to swing if I gotta go 230k in to start. Perhaps the Bravos are priced with expensive overhaul in mind as compared to the Ovations? There is an Ovation in Oregon with 2300 hours on original engine for 130k which would be attractive if I had the time to wait for overhaul and avionics upgrade (has original stack...my instructor wants redundancy, and WAAS GPS which I agree with). Who knows, maybe it has another 200 hours left alla Mike Busch doctrine? But there is no getting away from necessary upgrades. Search continues! Freddy
  21. I have always liked the idea of diesel power in aviation due to efficiency of burn and build. If I cannot smell Jet A off a TP or jet, reciprocating engine next best thing?
  22. I found it: http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAD.nsf/AOCADSearch/A6B3F7EC2F325C6486256A640057D7EA?OpenDocument Basically, a CO issue anytime except for cruise...Whats air temp at most cruise in the heat of the summer? This is why I stopped looking for A/C.
  23. Yes...or for taxiing. My use case is hot areas where I thought it would be great to taxi and be cool till higher alt where it is cooler. Wondering whether measuring CO would be good risk mitigation?
  24. Curious...how useful is A/C given the mandates?
  25. I think we are looking at the same Black/Silver...The biggest issue for us is the useful load. Do not really need FIKI and the AC is from what I understand mostly unusable. As family grows, this will stop working due to weigh gain of the little one. Thinking the useful load is high 800's low 900's?. Thank you. Freddy
