  1. Pretty sure I'm off the hook for sales tax on my bird. Still waiting for their official agreement via correspondence but in my mind, its a done deal. A couple month's back, Ohio department of taxation sent me a letter requesting info on my Mooney purchase last fall so they could correctly bill me. I misplaced the letter so fast forward to last week and they send me a bill for sales tax based on the average selling price of 1964 Mooney M20E's. They sent me online to look for a form to object to their valuation and correlating bill since my purchase was a few AMUs less than their average. As I was following the links on their site, I found an FAQ section, https://www.tax.ohio.gov/sales_and_use/Vehicle_Taxability_Compliance/Aircraft.aspx which I scanned thru. Number 6 piqued my interest not knowing what a casual sale was. Low and behold, my transaction fit the description. Person to person, not a dealer or broker From out of state Non commercial in nature. Wanted to share this thinking other states may have similar rules. It could certainly save many people a fair amount of doll hairs. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  2. I can’t see doing a Dynon upgrade in my E. But I’d like to be in a K or M in 5 years and will likely consider some dated panels with this upgrade in mind. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. They say buy your last plane first, right? I dont know if I'd want to jump right in to a long body. Guess if you fly one and like it, go for it. Regardless find a mooney specific transition trainer and you will be happy. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. I dont think my 900 cost that much. 45 hrs labor for install and 4amu for the unit. I wouldn't fly without it now that I've experienced it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. I convinced my wife it would save us money on my IR if we owned the Mooney vs rented the arrow. She was on board. If you can swing it now, why wait? Train in what you'll be flying. I think it will make you safer in it. FWIW, dont let the rumors of Mooneys scare you off. The Mooney tradition instructor I used made it sound so simple. Said it stalls and lands like a 172. IMO it does. First stall we did, I recovered and didnt even loose 50 ft. Landings are cake if you control your airspeed. Jump in, the waters great! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. Tell it to shape up its attitude. Never a reason for a poor attitude when flying. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. Curious your investment. I've got my 64E scheduled for strip and reseal Dec 3. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. Im going to have to agree. 145kts ground speed seems about right for my E. I had read its a 155kt plane. Who knows. When I do the calculations on TAS after the fact from memory, they come in higher but it could just be my memory failing me on a baro being off or something.
  9. Hope I dont eat my words one day. However I just don't understand landing gear up. I call the gear my Mooney brakes. At 120 I drop gear and say aloud, "Mooney brakes engaged". Can't see slowing down easily without them activated. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. Just talked with Paul from Weep no more. What a great guy. Booked 5 months out. Quoted $6400 or 6800 for both tanks. Considering having it done so i can check that box for the next 15 years. Will see how things go when we pull access panels tomorrow and look. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  11. Yes plan is to fix it next week. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  12. Just going to do only left turns. Call me Mr NASCAR Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  13. Still have easily 40 gals on board, call it 3 hours plus reserves. Will patch it next week. Thanks y'alls Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. I don't think so. Different last name Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  15. Fantastic turn of events just now. Came to the plane. It's inside the hangar. No fuel smell. Nothing under any part of the wing. Only 2 or 3 gallons low on the right wing. I'm thinking I just don't fill past 20 gallons on that side and I'm in the clear. Any reason thats not a good plan? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. How does the paint job get wrapped into it too? I'd rather just patch honestly Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. Would you patch a leaking tank? [emoji16] or full reseal? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. Instructors name is Jeff S in Cincinnati. His contact is on the Mooney flier site. Ill message it to you too. Id bet he would be glad to share his experience with you. Great guy that loves Mooneys. He's going to come up and help me patch my leak Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. My transition instructor has his and said an A&P wrote a letter of recommendation to the FSDO and he had to do a weeks worth of classes at some place to pass the writtens. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. No kidding I'm really considering that right now but hate the potential loss as much as i hate putting more in. I said the other day that it's almost sinful how the plane is eating money. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. Wish someone would have warned me Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Nah. It's been hangared by prior and me too Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. Is this what aviation ownership consists of, just blindly dumping money into planes, getting a few good flights inbetween, hoping that the end is near? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  24. On this side, yes, this is the only exit point. I'm heading over this evening to clean up the stains and pull the access panel. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  25. Found while preflighting on Saturday. Canned the trip. I have a call into weap no more regarding their timeline. Depending on what that looks like, wondering if you'd try and patch it in the time before a potential appointment or might the patch be enough for a couple more years of service? Supposedly tanks have been done in the last 10 years but im thinking it was the prior local mx guy, not one of the well known outfits tank sealing outfits. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
