  1. I have an E not a J so there are differences but i find landing at takeoff flaps is about perfect, plane lands slow and go arounds are a no factor. Landing wise, she still is down and stopped in less than 2000ft without really trying.
  2. unfortunately, probably going to be another 5 year wait before the product comes to my little mooney, i really wish they had just stopped selling 100LL back in the 70s
  3. im getting the Aerocruze 100 for my m20e, gfc500 is nice just don't want to spend 10amu more
  4. at some point, lycoming or mooney tested 96 octane fuel, in my lycoming io-360-a1a and found it acceptable, so pfft don't care at all about some 1000hp engine not being able to use it. where is this blurb 100r may not work in some applications? heck i live in houston if have to reduce takeoff to 1000 fpm to prevent detonation, not seeing an issue, anyone living higher than sea level probably wouldn't have to do anything
  5. If you build the Rv-10 can't you put a tio-360 in it, heck tio-540?
  6. these days i tend to land with only takeoff flaps, just got used to doing it that way during my IR so there isn't really a big change when i pull them up on the goaround. as for the gear, on a go around, not missed, i leave them down.
  7. have Brian call Zephyr, they seemed reasonable when i called a few weeks back
  8. i'm not sure why there's a converstation, it's clearly stated, yes. atleast for my m20e
  9. If you can, why not, it's not costly at all. after fixing(taping) mine, i can't see why the pneumatic/vacuum servos aren't used everywhere, no way they aren't more reliable than the electrical servos. My next upgrade is most likely the trutrac
  10. hmm, if no other major system is done, i'd prob could get it done for about 100k engine overhaul 40000 + paint 25000 + 35k for avionics sounds reasonable basic avionics not complete overhaul 2x gi-275 / g5 + garmin gi375 + garmin 215 should work those kx170bs will work forever if not you can buy a box of them for 1000$ heck drop it off at zephyr and get the paint and engine done at the same time
  11. guilty, I spend all day changing the oil on birdy but only like 30 mins for the car.. just enough time to drive to autozone buy oil and filter then swing by the quickchange. thinking it's way less hassle to change the oil on birdy than leaving it for my IA.
  12. I'd say NO..... but if the plane somehow didn't have life ending corrosion, expecting you'll need at LEAST 100k to bring it up to todays standards, (eng, avionics, paint ) would it be in range of existing J's? I'd bet she's done for but you never know
  13. a m20e isn't a cessna 150, it's faster than than the f and fully modded probably faster than the J. lets be honest, things have gotten expensive, i'd say serviceable should probably start around 80-90k, fully loaded like you listed, shoudl probably approach 140 150
  14. not a j but in my E with 52 gallon tanks, i do approx 3 to 4 hour legs. actually it's more based on which tank i'm on, i start on tank 1, switch after an hour, empty tank 2, land. tend to land with 15 to 20 gallons of fuel.
  15. i Have a gnc355a, installing a gnc215 to replace my kx170b next month. while it'll be nice to have a modern nav/com the reality is, i haven't used the nav in years. I sometimes tune the ils while i shoot an rnav approach just to make sure the ils equip still works
  16. I don't actually NEED it for training but i do need it to Exercise the privileges
  17. my E qualifies, vs1 = 58kts, vs0 = 49, i'm feeling this just makes birdy more desirable, also, never having to worry about a medical is kinda cool. I currently fly basic but will be going cat2 soon just to say i can practice commercial, 8 years from now i may only do weekend burger runs, win win.
  18. if it's really all original, i'd go knx-375, adsb-in/out and gps
  19. you're gonna spend $$$$+ buying a new plane and getting it setup the way you want, making it kinda a wash. besides the avioncs anything else you want ? gi-375 and 2x gi-275 or even 2x g5 get's you everything you need for IFR, 275's even fixes your shotgun panel problem. from experience, if the brittain works, it goes a long way in IR training, truthfully, you may want to disable it every now and again to get real feel. Totally get it—my ’74 E was a bit of a mess in the avionics department when I picked her up. Since then I’ve added a new audio panel, GNC355A, G5s, GNS480, and an MD200-706. GNC215's going in next month too. Honestly, even if I’d dropped another 40 grand on a different plane, I’d probably still be right where I am now.
  20. yeah, it's taken < 1hr the 3 times i've had birdy certified.
  21. 1 week, 2 weeks if i help 8) of course that's just the annual and associated task, anything extra takes more time
  22. My E has strobes and a beacon
  23. Is there a replacement for the brackett that's on my E?
  24. Get the G5, it really is that much better. Gi275 if you're feeling spicy. I replaced my ai after it decided to ping pong around while in a cloud, i NEVER want that experience again. i chose the G5s as i figured i'd eventually go g3x but after flying with them for the last year, I think i'm good, Only feature i feel i still want / need is synthetic vision.
  25. planning, 1000ft, i'm not going if i can't plan for this. approach is mins including dip for lights. if before the approach, other aircraft are reported going missed, i'll divert to better conditions.
