I'm not trying to debate, but asking an honest question. What I have read is that if a kid is healthy, not obese, underlying conditions, etc... the chances of a kid having a mild case are better than 99.97%. Compare that to the 80-95% chance of having a mild case if you have had the vaccine. If those are real numbers, then kids by virtue of the fact that they are kids, if they are healthy, already have a better chance of not getting COVID or if they do having a mild case of it than what the vaccines provide. Why stick a kid in the arm with an experimental vaccine that has no long term studies and has not been approved yet by the FDA when they already have better immunity than the vaccine can provide? The push for herd immunity through the vaccines itself is a mixed message. The vaccines, from what has been reported, do not provide immunity. How does a society actually achieve herd immunity with a vaccine that only lessens the chance of a severe case but does not provide immunity? You can still get COVID after getting the vaccine and you can still spread it to others, all you have done is lower your own personal risk of having a severe case. Therefore, getting the vaccine really isn't about protecting others, it is about protecting yourself, which is fine and good. The bottom line is that there is still a lot to be learned about not only the disease, including long term effects of contracting it, but also about the vaccines, how long do they last, and if there are long term side effects from the vaccines. Those are questions that I don't think anything but time will fully answer.

Used prices are definitely up. We try to get all the inventory we can through taking in trades and have been offering more at our three stores recently than we normally would just to get inventory. Trying to buy at the auctions right now is a fools errand and you will spend much more than just stretching on the value of a trade. New car inventories are extremely low, we are at about 20-25% of our normal inventory levels right now and sell them as fast as we can get them. The flip side is everyone is in the same position and nobody is cutting prices, why sell something for a discount when you only have a limited number and someone will be by tomorrow and pay sticker? As with most we made cuts in March 2020 right at the very beginning. Later in 2020 when we tried to hire some of them back we were unsuccessful, between the Federal and State benefits they were making more not working than when they were working.

Check the Downloads section of the site. There are a number of different ones in there. The early ones will apply to a 1965 but I would download the later ones as well. Everything is not exactly the same in the later models but the illustrations are much better and can help. https://mooneyspace.com/files/category/1-engine-reference-manuals/

Every takeoff pick a spot and say out loud, "I should be off the ground by xxx or at least have xxx speed or we are stopping straight ahead." Saying it out loud helps cement it in as to what you are going to do. -
It is CA but isn't mask crazy everywhere. We were in Santa Barbara a couple weekends ago just to fly and get some lunch. Put a mask on in the FBO, the shuttle driver didn't care if we had a mask, had to have one on when ordering in the restaurant but that was it. Depends on where you are and how much they want to enforce things. Lots of people walking around without masks. I did see a guy at the stoplight on my way into work yesterday here in Orange County. He did not have a mask on, his 4-5 yo daughter did have a mask on but was climbing around inside the car with no seatbelt. I wonder what is a bigger threat to that little girl's life, Covid-19 or getting propelled through the windshield....

I put a 2610-3 in place of the turn coordinator. It was a simple install, power/ground.

G3X / G5 / GFC 500 / GTN 650 Installation time
Skates97 replied to PT20J's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
2 servo plus pitch trim, I didn't see the need for the yaw damper in a short body. The PMA450B is an incredible audio panel, I love having it in the plane. I discovered a new feature (I should probably read more of the manual) a couple weeks ago when we were flying to Santa Barbara. You can answer and end calls with the soft buttons on the audio panel and it will show the phone number the call is coming from. We were about 5 miles out on a base leg and had been cleared to land. I didn't know my phone had connected via Bluetooth. The phone rings in the headset and the phone number from the call pops up on the screen on the PMA450B. I recognized my son's number but didn't have time so just hit the bottom soft button on the panel to end the call. He called right back so I pressed the top button on the audio panel to answer the call, said "I can't talk, landing in a couple minutes" and pressed the bottom button to end the call. -
G3X / G5 / GFC 500 / GTN 650 Installation time

The quote to put the GFC500 in my plane is 60 hours of labor. It already has G5's and there is no current AP to remove so 60-80 if there is an old AP to pull out would line up with what I saw. -

If that was 1 POB with no injuries that is a great job flying it all the way to the end, even lost part of the wing but on the ground upright with what appears to be not much damage to the cabin. -
I did the same thing, I listed every C/D/E/F in my price range over a period of about 6 months. I also listed the avionics, links to the ads, etc... I just looked, there were 40 planes on my spreadsheet by the time I bought mine and I felt I had a good handle on the market.
-
Without knowing equipment/avionics, interior/exterior condition, etc... that is tough to put a price on. Even "newer GPS" doesn't provide much information as that could mean a lot of different things. There is a good valuation form on The Mooney Flyer website which provides a starting point. https://themooneyflyer.com/valuation/M20CValuation.html

Mooney + ZEROBreeze AC, think it'll work
Skates97 replied to McMooney's topic in General Mooney Talk
My home made one will cool air for a couple hours with a 20 lb bag of ice in it, I've used it on a two hour flight back to SoCal from Phoenix in the summer. The trick is having a lower flow sump pump so you aren't circulating the water as much. If you like do it yourself projects it is a fun one. https://intothesky.com/homemade-ac/ -
Two more training flights in the log book. I remembered Don's advice and shortened calls to "two thousand eight hundred climbing three thousand." Both were very busy flights with approaches to multiple airports. The first was the same depart KFUL, fly the RNAV RWY 26R to KCNO, GPS-A to KAJO, RNA RWY 24 to KFUL. The second flight was depart KFUL, fly the RNAV Y RWY 20R to KSNA with a touch and go, then RNAV Z RWY 30 to KLGB, and the VOR-A back into KFUL. On approach into KSNA SoCal said "Maintain 130 knots until three mile final." Everything in my plane is in MPH so that is what my brain mostly thinks in. I was at the saturation point and repeated it back to him before realizing in the next 2-3 seconds that while I was currently doing 130 MPH, he was asking me for roughly 150 MPH and there is no way I could do that, slow to 120 MPH to drop the gear and land. He ended up just asking to maintain current speed. You can read about the flights on my blog. https://intothesky.com/2021/04/25/ifr-training-round-robin-take-two-and-three/

My plane had a full strip/reseal done a few years prior to purchasing it so I thought I was home free. After purchase I found that if I filled the right tank I had a leak that showed up right where it looks like yours is at. I could remove the small panel in front of it and see it coming down the front corner of the tank. I called up Wetwingologists and he said he would be happy to fix it under warranty but that would have been a flight from CA to FL. He said during the curing that sometimes there will be a small bubble in the sealant that can pop and leave a small leak. I filled the tank one night and stuck a rag in that hole to soak the fuel and keep it from running down the underside of the wing. In the morning I took the cap off and found it down to about 20-22 gallons left. No AP wanted to mess with it so I flew it that way for a few years, I just didn't fill the right side. I moved to a new field and had an AP/IA that was okay with me opening it up and working on it, he would supervise, but he didn't want the responsibility of another leak and me coming back to him because "he was the one who fixed it." I think that's also why none of the others wanted to touch it. Where it leaks is not always where the leak is coming from, but working from a fairly new complete reseal I opened up the tank from the bottom. I also suspected it was in the front part of the tank and knowing the level it leaked down to I knew about how high to look. We found a tiny hole in the sealant, fixed it, and it has been trouble free ever since. There is also an excellent article by Don Maxwell on how they find and fix leaks. Fuel Tank Repair.pdf

I'll add another plug for Myflightbook. You can also have instructors e-sign the entries.

I switched my G5 to C° before our flight today and left the JPI in F°, I think I like having both. We'll see.
-
I hadn't thought of this. My JPI and G5 read very close but don't quite agree. The G5 probe is in the wing and more accurate than the JPI that is in the left air intake and catches a little heat from the cowl area (still don't know why it is in the install manual to put it there). Putting the G5 in C° would give me a closer look for icing and the JPI gives me what my brain still thinks in. Not quite so fast. Everything in the C POH is in F°. I still have that one in the window right in front of the storm window.
-
Pretty simple question, do you have your display set for Celsius or Fahrenheit and why?
-
You only need the sides and top of the cowl off, the bottom does not need to come off. I took them off before taxiing over to the shop because I didn't want them doing it and it only takes me about five minutes to take it off or put it back on. And they did have to change the studs but as Rich said the engine does not have to be tilted.
-
I don't know what it is now or what the rates are in AL, but in June 2018 the shop here charged me 4.5 hours for a total of $450 to remove a Hartzell and install the PCU5000 on my D.

Or rent a set of clubs at the course. I know they aren't "your" clubs but most of the nice courses have nice sets. I've been on a number of golf trips, and while I have taken my clubs on the airlines, (I like my clubs) a lot of the others on the trips just rent a set, haven't played any better or worse with the rented set, and still enjoyed the rounds.

I think this is the one you are looking for. I have a tendency to download a lot of articles, you never know when they will disappear. CARB HEAT CARE.pdf

I was going to go Aspen/Avidyne as well. Even bought an Aspen that I ended up reselling. I have no AP and it doesn't even have the positive control (D's didn't get that) so as I continued to wait on the TruTrack and the GFC500 was no the cusp of being approved for the short bodies I made the decision that I was going Garmin. I already had a GTX335 in the panel which I installed under supervision. I bought dual G5's and a GNC355 and did the install again under supervision. As you said the diagrams and installation manuals are very good. It was slow going because I was double and triple checking everything. When it came time to power everything up it all worked. I also put in a PS Engineering PMA450B at the same time and wiring it to the GNC355 and the SL-40 I already had in the panel was not difficult. As for learning the equipment, I'm still working on it. With the help of my CFII doing my IFR training, playing with the trainer on my laptop, reading and rereading the pilot guide, and just fumbling around it is coming slowly. The plane goes in a week from now for the GFC500 and then I will have everything I am looking for in my plane.

How is it that they can say that the vaccine gives longer protection than getting the disease? What data is that based on? I'm not trying to argue, I honestly would like to know. Neither the disease nor the vaccines have been around long enough to have any long term analysis of protection from the disease or of long term side effects of either the disease or the vaccines. I would think that we would need to be further down the road to look at the differences between those that had a vaccine compared to those that had the disease. Also, with regards to immunity from the vaccines, what I have read is that they do not give immunity, they help so that when you do contract it you will have a more mild case, hence the reason they are continuing to preach the masks and social distancing even after getting vaccinated. If the vaccine truly provided immunity then there would be no reason for masks or social distancing. There would also be no reason for those who have been vaccinated to be worried about those who haven't been vaccinated.
