  1. The speaker is correct. The F/G certification started in February. Garmin averages right at 6 months from recieving an aircraft to certification. If it goes beyond 6 months, it will require a contract renegotiation with the owner. Just so happens I hold that contract for the F/G. The E model rolled into certification a couple of weeks ago. There is a thread about it somewhere around here. So the short bodies should be complete in November.
  2. Believe it is painted white, if you zoom in you can see the edges.
  3. Yeah, this was not a deal to snooze on. @Ross Tayloris a gentleman pilot. The book in already enroute. Always happy to do business with upstanding MSers.
  4. That's what I was afraid of.
  5. @Alan Foxhow involved is converting a fixed rear bench to the split reclining?
  6. He does not have an engine monitor.
  7. Sweet, Max told me he had your E lined up when I was there in February. Glad to hear they will get yours going before mine is complete. It sounds like yours rolls in just as the install is complete on mine.
  8. Wes, Yours is going to Garmin next week? Are you based at MKC?
  9. They might...I actually didn't realize they planned to jump the G and F together. It's my understanding that they don't have a G. If the E rolls into certification in August, I would be looking for "in-progress" on the website sometime in November.
  10. When I was there in February, they already had an E model slated. It is due to roll into their hangar as soon as mine is finished. But it never hurts to try to sign up on their web page in case something falls through with the current plane. My plane had dual G5s and GTN 650. Also, when I was contacted, I was willing to fly it to their facility in Olathe, KS for a preliminary inspection. They had already turned down two other Fs for, at least in their eyes, maintenance concerns. It did help because immediately following my preliminary inspection my plane went into annual. It actually worked well with Garmin's schedule and it allowed my plane to return to them with a fresh annual and a fresh AD log. Obviously, they don't want a plane with a bunch of inspections coming due while they have it.
  11. @bradp has a recent GFC 500/M20J install and is a big fan of the YD.
  12. According to the Garmin rep, they update the website to "in-progress" once they are in a 3 month window of completing the certification and having the STC.
  13. Yep it's mine. It is just about complete with the install. The flight testing is to begin in the next week or two. According to Garmin this morning, STC for the F by the end of July.
  14. Nope the F went into the shop late February.
  15. Yep, they have had the F since the end of February.
  16. That's true. I have too many days/weeks wearing that stuff, also had numerous shots for Anthrax. Packed it around for months at a time. It was tough turning wrenches on F-16 in full MOP gear, your hands didn't even fit into some of the access doors with the gloves and jacket on, and the visibility was always a challenge. At least when flying in the gear we had blowers hooked up to the helmet and mask, it helped keeping from fogging up and going IMC inside the mask.
  17. Thank goodness no! We used to train for it while flying C-130s. We had to be able to operate in a chemical warfare environment.
  18. The GI275 was a clean sheet design that took extra time to make it to the market. It arrived about 3 years later than Garmin was planning...thanks FAA. Meanwhile, the FAA made it easier for experimental avionics to be certified for certified aircraft, aka G5, so Garmin got them released while finishing the certificationfor the 275...thanks FAA.
  19. I can ensure you that flying in chem gear is a horrible experience.
  20. Depends on the mask and O2 system. In the Beech 400 I can go on 100% O2 (no ambient cockpit air) and also select emergency which forces a constant pressure of O2 to the mask. The latter makes it difficult to talk and is very loud over the mic. It also depletes the O2 system pretty quickly.
  21. I don't think flying with properly designed PPE is very difficult. I have flown with 3 different types of helmets, O2 masks, NVGs, and even full up chemical protection suits with sealed head coverings. That being said is was something we practiced and they were designed or retrofitted for aircrew use. The big problem as far as I can tell there is nothing purpose built for GA or commerical cockpits. I don't blame anyone for not instructing during this uncertain time. I still fly 3 days per week instructing. We take disinfectant and wipe down the cockpits. We do not wear any maskes in the plane because it does interfere with the boom mics ability to break squelch. Also, it precludes donning an O2 maks in the case of emergency.
  22. I agree, and that was my initial thought as well for a location. But, since Garmin is footing the bill....
  23. When talking with Garmin, they are trying to convince everyone to place the controller at the top of the center stack so that it more closely matches the big iron. Of course the Beech 400 I has the A/P down on the center pedestal. My GFC install by Garmin will have the controller top center.
  24. Me too! It would mean I get to fly my plane again. Luckily, I fly for a living since it's been almost 3 months since my last Mooney flight.
