I got a confirmation from a Rocket Owner... Space is for the #6 Rocker Cover. Assuming it's the angle of the engine, but forgot to ask that.

Looking for replacement Manifold/Fuel gauge
PeteMc replied to BadMooneyRising's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
When my MP/FF gauge died I could not find a replacement and no one had the parts to rebuild mine. So I ultimately found Aerospace Logic (from a comment from someone here). They also have a MP/FP that you are looking for, but I don't know which of the ones on this page would be for your plane... https://www.aerospacelogic.com/engine-instruments/fuel-and-manifold-pressure/ BIG NOTE!!!! One big down side of Aerospace Logic is that for what ever reason they did not get their device certified with anything other than THEIR Transducer AND it can only be connected to their device (really dumb). So if you have a JPI or any other Fuel Monitor/Calculator this installation will require you to pull out the Transducer you've been been using and initially disable your fuel monitor. My mechanic added a big piece of fuel line to make sure there were no Fuel Flow issues and then did whatever test he needed to do to sign it off. So I got my JPI FF back, though the two don't match exactly. Need to fly from one Apt enough so that I can fuel the plane in the same level or unlevel spot to accurately measure how much fuel I'm burning. They're real close, but want to tweak them in even closer. -
MAPASF 2024 PPP Training Dates

I may try and make Santa Maria. Or if we do a X-US flight next year, maybe I'll time it with Burlington. The plane was painted right by Burlington @ Prestige Aircraft (KFSO), so I could always get a touch-up while I'm there. -
Rocket specific. I thought it was to fit the engine in there, but then I would have thought you or your mechanic would have seen a bulge on the side of the engine that matched with the cowling. So now I'm curious why the bulge is on all Rockets.

I would agree if @ASMech66 is expecting to train in it to get his PPC. Besides just trying to get the basics down in a High Performance plane, the Insurance would be obscene! But as a "first plane" to purchase... My K was/is my first plane.

Current install cost of Garmin 650xi and 750xi

You can use the knob to enter a LOT of info into the GTN. And I've never really had a problem with the Touch Screen in turbulence. Sure, sometimes it takes an extra touch, but I've also had trouble hanging on to the knob with the old Kings. -
Does it work well? I should have realized by now there would be USB fans (Duh!) and just did a quick search and found a lot of them. In the past it hasn't been an issue, but since I've moved this has got me thinking. ALSO... They're great in the summer to just get a little air moving in the cabin while on the ground.
-
You let them breath?! There's your first problem I never let people breath in my K if the windows start to fog up! But I totally agree with you that it can be a big issue. Luckily I haven't done too many flights were the inside fogs up before we get going. I saw one guy that had a Cig Lighter Clip Fan that he clipped to the glare shield and pointed at the window during taxi and then just got rid of it when he was cleared for TO. Apparently worked well and might be easier than adding a defrost blower to the K.
-
Well... I'm not totally disagreeing in some cases. What do you think it cost them to re-engineer both the GTN Xi and the GNX375/GNC355/GPS175 lines so they now all can talk to each other vs. designing them to do that in the beginning??? I know what you're saying, but so many times companies have had to spend SO much more because of short sightedness. The 500 vs 600 autopilot also have some of the same issues with approaches that they're now having to correct.

Regardless if the antenna itself is okay, how long ago was the cable installed? Even if the shop says they can use the antenna, be sure they really look at the type and condition of the cable. It's well worth swapping it out if there is any issue with the old antenna cable. -
Potential going into the FLs is main reason I'm keeping my 3rd Class. I've only done it a few times, but the times I have saved some big diversions when I could go up and over vs around. And going into Canada, though I doubt it would matter. But if something happens and everyone starts checking all their little Gov and Insurance boxes, I don't want someone to tell me I'm not covered because of a technicality.

Even though I don't plan to get a Basic any time soon, good to know. There was a lot of talk about it last summer when AOPA was making their rounds to the various airports. At that time I think they were already pushing the Ins. Co. on it, so maybe they backed down. Either that or it was the pocket book... If I had a Basic Med and my Ins. Co. wouldn't cover me, I'd probably switch Ins Co before I changed my Basic Med.

How to Attach Battery Minder plane simply
PeteMc replied to M20F-1968's topic in General Mooney Talk
Sorry to hear that. I have know "of them" for years, but never did much research since I never had power. I'll probably go back to my trickle charger to just warm the battery and hope I'm flying enough that a Minder wouldn't matter anyway. -
Oh, I get being a different Co/Division. That doesn't bother me at all for a company that size. But they have NO coordination. There should be a HQ department that keeps track of what they're all doing and what they're all looking to release in the next 12-24 months. Other than Patches for BUGS, it's not like they develop the new features in a week. (Not talking writing the code, but actually the planning and research.) So when they see something for the 600 that would work for the 500, then they let them know for continuity. Same with Experimental vs. Certified.... curious if there's anything the Exp. versions can do that the Cert. versions could benefit by? That would be another perfect example of lack of coordination. Right now we Users will be the only way the Cert. crowd will hear about a great Feature Request. That's pretty bad IMHO.
-
Always amazes me to see the total lack of coordination with some companies. As much as I like Garmin, I also think they are one of the worst managed companies there is. The GTN Xi with no Bluetooth. The belief that anyone buying a GTN would not by a GNC as a Comm 2 so there was no need for them to talk to each other - even though the Engineers brought it up and it was still nixed. I'm sure others here can add multiple faux pas to the list.
-
First call before switching might be to your Insurance Broker/Company to see if they care. Next call would be to AOPA to get more info from them and to see what the status of their potential Insurance Co. They have been talking about how some insurance companies are milking their clients when there is NO data to show a Basic being an issue. So they were either going to create (maybe purchase) and insurance company to deal with this issue. I'd actually be curious where that stands and if they're still moving forward.

Follow up on O2 and is there a difference. I posted a link to a video by Dr Brent Blue on O2 and CO that is always relevant, but maybe a little more so going into winter where we crank up the heat and close down those cold fresh air vents. In the video Brent does discuss a little bit about how all the O2 is now the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOEBoeuyR0U

Any particular reason you don't use the Mooney recommended Tri-Flow? What I guess is now what's called Tri-Flow Superior Lubricant since they have so many products now.
-
Right after COVID I needed a spring and it took some time for my shop to find one. You might get a couple if you find some! I probably should think about getting one or two and just hanging on to them too.
-
Yes on the antenna move. The GA35 is listed in the GNC355 Installation Manual as one of the approved antennae. But it is interesting that the 1.6.1.4 GPS Aiding document you posted does NOT list the GNC355. Is it an older document? I would think the GNC355 would work as I believe the "GPS" is the same in all three of the smaller boxes, but you might want to check with Garmin as to why it is not listed as a GPS Source for the G5. (Hopefully someone else here will know the answer.)
-
Yea... but let's not confuse the issue. He just asked about the GPS!
-
That's the diagram for the G5 installation. Go look at the GNC355s installation diagram and you'll probably see a GPS Antenna.

How to Attach Battery Minder plane simply

Okay... But there are also inexpensive de-sulfator pulse chargers. I would need to do some research, but from memory I think if I turned one of those on every so often on a cold morning to warm the battery I would get the same result of a battery that was ready to crank, have some de-sulfator benefits and and still cost a lot less than a battery minder. -

Exactly, that's all part of the evaluation. If I'm flying enough to keep the battery charged, which is also good for the engine, then why spend the money for the battery minder. One could also just add a descent battery trickle charger with a remote switch and in the winter turn it on in the morning if you were going to go flying. It would warm the battery, which should already have a good charge, so you're good to go when you get there. No need for the added cost of the "MINDER" part to constantly calculate if it should turn the charging function On or Off.
