I have the Artex ELT-345 too. No known issues, so I guess that's also a recommendation.

Foreflight Alternatives? Which EFB should I switch to?
PeteMc replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I believe they launch at 1100z and 2300z every day. There is some sort of permanent NOTAM, but it is not published with the regular ones, so we don't see it. Also supposed to be an arrangement with Spokane ATC to keep people out of the area, which is not really very big. No clue if they enlarge or elongate the area if there are really strong winds. Actually wonder if they can see it on their Primary Radar so they know where they can and can't send you? -
What did they suggest?

Skew-T Log-P Diagrams use the balloon data as well as some other observations. -

Give us the specifics of the Route, Altitude, times, etc. And EXACTLY how you did you enter it? Did you start in Flights or on the Map? If the Map did you send it to Flights for the Briefing and then back to the Map? Let's see if we can duplicate it on another iPad/Account. And a screen shot of the anomalies if they are still there. -

You may have said that in jest... But with their other issues and the Stock not really rebounding. I bet they ARE happy they kept you! -
Being heard on a near by Hand Held doesn't surprise me. It's the not burning out the Transmitter that does. However.... I'd love to see the antenna wiring. I wonder if with no antenna attached they include an internal load. Then, when you turn it on, odds of a false alarm are greatly reduced as the transmitting power/range is reduced. But there is still enough output for the Hand Held to pick up.
-
Excuse me, it says what?????? I find this suspicious! You never transmit without an antenna/load or you very well may burn out the transmitter. And does the manual call for a specific load for the antenna, which I guess their antenna provides?

Did you try filling out the Online Form? https://www.mooneysafety.com/ppp-registration/

Is there that much traffic for each one to have their own Section? I don't know much about the site's SW, but my guess is the less is more concept is way up there.

Yea, and then there's when you depart KBJC in Oct to the NE and get vectored every which way and kept down low. Then by the time they get you over to the west side of the airport and eventually give you a climb, those MOUNTAINS are getting really close. Had I not had a Trubo I never would have made the climb. I came close to telling ATC I had to turn, but being Oct it all worked out. Had we been in IMC and I was not climbing way harder than a standard climb, I sure hope ATC would have turned us. So I'm very much pro Turbo in the west if you given the option.

Friend used to have TERRIBLE problems with hot starts (212 Trophy). We'd always hang around wherever we were until he got started and taxied out. Then he got a system that seems to work really well: 1) shutdown at 1300 rpm (not at 1000 rpm idle) 2) If no start, don't over prime (pump on and mixture in only till fuel pressure peaks) and retry

Too bad it's not right before or after the MAPA PPP @ KSMX. But that's in early April.

Yeah, I flagged the duplicates to! And I'd I agree with @Pinecone that Mooney Summit doesn't cut it (unless it is directly tied to mooneyspace). I vote for Seminars, Meetings & Fly-Ins that can be used for any kind of meeting, training or just a bunch of people saying they're going to all meet up next Sat. for breakfast on Nantucket, Orcas Is. Heard good things about Mooney Summit, but then there's also the MAPA Safety Foundation PPPs, AOPA & EAA Fly-Ins & Seminars, etc., etc.

Got the cash, but prefer to finance, where?
PeteMc replied to SilentT's topic in General Mooney Talk
I used Dorr Aviation over 30 years ago. So if they are still around that's saying something. And if you talk to them. Ask them why I didn't get an engraved keyring like @Pinecone got!!!!! ADDED: I went back and looked. I worked with Bob Howe. -
I was mentioning the sponges to a friend and he sent me a pic of his sponges in place. He has a 212 Trophy, but same place, same issue.
-
Probably all about where you parked. Friend of mine parked his Mooney give or take 200ft in front of where I was and had very little bird activity. I was not near the edge of the ramp or near trees, etc., but we had a lot of birds on our tails and trying to make nests. I have a red tail, so maybe that attracts them.
-
Yeah, they would have pulled all the inspection plates. But during nesting time it is remarkable, almost unbelievable, how fast some birds can build a BIG nest.
-
You don't have the opening in the back on your 252? Thought it was basically the same as my 231, but never looked. And you need to look way up into the tail, sometimes with a flashlight, and if you see anything then odds are the WHOLE tail is full of a nest. You'll need to open the inspection plate on the pilot side and see what's there. I washed the plane one evening and knew we were leaving early the next morning so I didn't put in my sponges. When I got there the next morning there was some grass and twigs in the visible. When I opened the inspection plate and started pulling stuff out, the WHOLE tail had already been filled. What I saw through the back was the top of the nest. I grabbed this off the Internet, looks like a J, but basically the same as my 231 and I'm assuming your 252. This is where you stuff the sponges on both sides to totally block off access (use soft sponges). If you park in a hangar and don't really think about it, put it on your checklist or put the sponges on top of everything so when you get to your destination and you're going to be parked outside, you'll remember.

Beware of buying anything on line. If you feel you do trust the person, STILL use PayPal with their protection plan!!!!

I haven't registered yet, but hope to make it to KSMX. So I'll see you and @amillet there.

Tight Landings, Take Offs, and Close Calls!
PeteMc replied to Tim-37419's topic in General Mooney Talk
I went into Elizabeth Field on Fishers Island, NY (0B8) years ago. It's showing 1,806' now and I don't think they've extended either Rwy (2,345' for the "long" Rwy). Sort of cheated though as there are ZERO issues with the trees at either end (or at least back then). And if you're landing 07, you come right across the water and over a tiny rising beach to the Threshold. But I was doing a lot of flying back then, including a lot of smaller strips. But I don't think I'd try that today without a lot of short field practice.
